Guest Post with Author Kaylea Cross and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to RFTC author Kaylea Cross  Kaylea is celebrating the recent release of her book The Vacant Chair and has stopped by to chat. Please give Kaylea a warm welcome.

Kaylea Cross is an award winning author of edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense. A Registered Massage Therapist, Kaylea is an avid gardener, artist, Civil War buff, Special Ops aficionado, belly dancer and former nationally-carded softball pitcher. She lives in Vancouver, BC with her husband.

Places to find Kaylea:

I've been a huge Civil War buff since I was about twelve years old, so when I started writing romance I knew one day I'd write a Civil War story. In addition to dividing the country, the Civil War divided many families and took the lives of more than 600,000 men. With such staggering losses, it's no wonder why people still have strong feelings about the war today.

The Vacant Chair tells the story of a wartime nurse and an officer in the 5th Michigan Cavalry, one of the regiments in George Armstrong Custer's famous Michigan Brigade, otherwise known as the Wolverines. I dragged my poor hubby to every battlefield mentioned in the book in the name of research, as well as to any and every Civil War museum in the beautiful state of Virginia. Poor man.

I'd planned the trip to coincide with a big re-enactment, so we attended that as well. One of the highlights of that entire trip (apart from getting engaged on a battlefield!) was witnessing a cavalry charge. About twenty mounted men charged across the open field at us, sabres raised, screaming at the top of their lungs. Even with that small number of horses we could feel the pounding of the hooves on the ground as they galloped straight toward us. I had goose bumps all over me and I'm pretty sure hubby did too.

The digital version of the book is just $2.99 and it's also available in paperback. I hope you enjoy it!

Kaylea Cross

The Civil War has torn Brianna Taylor's family apart and made her a widow. Determined to ease the suffering of the wounded crowding the Union hospitals and honor the memory of the man she loved, she embarks on a career as a nurse. But then he arrives—a patient who makes her feel alive again in spite of her resolve to stay detached.

Captain Justin Thompson understands the cost of war all too well, yet he felt compelled to fight for the Union his father died defending. Wounded at Cold Harbor and left to die at a military hospital, he owes his life to Brianna, who seems determined to guard her professional boundaries despite his best efforts to breach them. Just as he's winning the battle for her heart, he's forced to return to the front of a cruel war that could very well separate them forever.

    1. Di, it's very interesting. Gaining such recognition and going through the ranks at such a young age certainly had an effect on his character throughout the war, and he carried it with him out onto the plains.
