Interview with Author Sara Humphreys and Giveaway

Please give a warm welcome to author Sara Humphreys to RFTC. Sara is celebrating the recent release of her newest book, Tall, Dark, and Vampire and has stopped by to answer a few questions.

Sara Humphreys has been attracted to the fantasies of science fiction, paranormal, and romance since her adolescence when she had a mad crush on Captain Kirk. A public speaker and speaker trainer, Sara lives in Bronxville, New York, with her husband, who is very considerate of her double life, and four amazing boys. Look for the next Amoveo Legend novel, Unclaimed, in December, and the next Dead in the City novel, Vampire Trouble, in July 2014.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I'm a mom, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, author and dog wrangler. I love to eat and am really trying to love exercise. Oh, and I like wine.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I did when I was younger but the drifted away from it when I discovered acting. I found my way back to it a few years ago. I'd been out of the acting game for a while and I realized that I needed a creative outlet. So I started writing and haven't stopped since.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I was a panster but now I'm mostly a plotter. Although…the synopsis I turn into my publisher about 8-12 months before they get the manuscript is usually different from the final book. I plot but my characters often make changes along the way.

Where do your ideas come from?
Most of it develops organically and from asking myself questions. When I was walking through NYC one night, I was looking at this unusual group of women. They were obviously together but they all had distinctly different style and there was something ageless about them. In my head, I made them vampires. Different women from different times but bound together.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
A coven of vampire chicks are taking a bite out of the big apple and finding love along the way. Men who'll claim them but not tame them.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I love anything with a happily ever after and something that tugs at the heart strings. I'm a sucker. Besides, the world is full of enough ugliness…so I don't want to read about it too.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
Blue Moon by Lori Handeland. Awesome book and a great series.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
Love scenes. They're like choreographed dances and if my kids are home, it's next to impossible to write them.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Mitch Albom, Carolyn Brown and Rhonda Byrne. Mitch Albom writes touching, heartwrenching stories that speak to millions of people and I'd love to pick his brain. Carolyn Brown is funny, sassy and spunky and has written 60+ books—so I wanna pick her brain and she'll be tons of fun. Rhonda Byrne wrote The Secret and I'd want to buy her dinner to thank her for writing a book that changed my life.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I am writing the second half of ASMODEUS: Demon of Lust. It's a serialized novel and is part of the Princes of Hell series which is an Amoveo spin off. I'm also writing VAMPIRE TROUBLE, the second Dead in the City book.

Do you prefer vampires or shapeshifters?

She always knew Fate was cruel...

The last person Olivia expected to turn up at her club was her one true love. It would normally be great to see him, except he's been dead for centuries. Olivia really thought she had moved on with her immortal life, but as soon as she sees Doug Paxton, she knows she'd rather die than lose him again. And that's a real problem...

But this is beyond the pale...

Doug is a no-nonsense copy by day, but his nights are tormented by dreams of a gorgeous redhead who's so much a part of him, she seems to be in his blood. When he meets Olivia face-to-face, long-buried memories begin to surface. She might be the answer to his prayers...or she might be the dead of him.

    1. Hi Anne-I love shifters too. I hope you'll check out my Amoveo Legend series. It's about a secret society of shapeshifters in search of their one true mate.

  3. It's really hard to pick between the two. I used to prefer vampires but with all of the hot shifter Alphas, they are tied for the number 1 spot. Lol. Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Hmm, that's a tough one. I do like vampire stories, but I find that most of the fantasy books on my TBR list seem to be about shape-shifters. Either way, I enjoy reading about both.

Thank you so much for the post and giveaway! This book sounds great, and I'd love the chance to read it. Fingers crossed. :-)

    Best Wishes,
    Lindsey V.

  16. Well, that's a hard question 'cause I like both. Both shifters and vampires have had my interest for quite awhile. But I guess if I had to choose, it would be vampires--'cause I started reading paranormals with Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, which had both vampires and shifters in it. But no one could ever forget Anita's biggest love interest...Jean-Claude! Thanks for this post and giveaway today. jdh2690@gmail.com

  22. Thanks for sharing the great interview and the giveaway. I would love to read this book. It is really hard for me to answer that question, vampires started me on my paranormal craze and I love them lots, but I also love shifters. So to answer the question, I guess vampires take a slight edge over shifters. For me personally, I would love to have one of each.

  23. Vampires are the sexiest thing to have been wrote about. I already have this book on my Kindle and plan to make it my next read.
