Meet Mary Ann Rivers, author of Live.

Mary Ann Rivers was an English and music major and went on to earn her MFA in creative writing, publishing poetry in journals and leading creative-writing workshops for at-risk youth. While training for her day job as a nurse practitioner, she rediscovered romance on the bedside tables of her favorite patients. Now she writes smart and emotional contemporary romance, imagining stories featuring the heroes and heroines just ahead of her in the coffee line. Mary Ann Rivers lives in the Midwest with her handsome professor husband and their imaginative school-aged son.

Meet the Cast of the Burnside Series

Sam Burnside. 38. Oldest of four. Family doctor working in urgent care while going through the process of opening a low-income clinic in his Lakefield, OH neighborhood. Huge heart, deep roots, massive control issues stemming from a rocky childhood and adolescence where getting control of his life was a genuine challenge. Redhead, like his dad.

Sarah Burnside. 30. Second of four. Letterpress operator, new to the work after many different arts-based careers: screenprinting, catering (vegan), roller derby. Is recovering from an serious injury received while racing in an illegal bike race.

Destiny Burnside. 27. Web marketer and developer who has been hit by unemployment. Caregiver and peacemaker of the family. Loves her family and her home, sometimes finds herself longing for . . . something.

Paul "PJ" Burnside. 22. Cellist in the Lakefield Symphony (somewhat of a prodigy). Sensitive, loves his family, but has always felt a little out of place among them. Has been in love with his big sister's best friend nearly his entire life.

Nina Paz. 38. NINA + SAM (LAUGH, Burnsides Book #2). Urban farmer with a farm to table cafe, CSA operation, farm store. Widow. Her parents were migrant workers from Mexico who worked in the northwest her entire life and eventually became part owners in an organic operation. Far from home in Ohio, she has built a similar life for herself, while exiling herself from the past.

Owen Merrit. 30. OWEN + SARAH (ALWAYS, Burnsides Book #4). Lakefield University professor. Obsessed with doing the right thing. Exercises a great deal of control and personal values over his life that some might find rigid.

Hefin Thomas. 37, HEFIN + DESTINY (LIVE, Burnsides Book #1). Welsh. Green engineer in the area of functional design, but has been on career sabbatical since marrying, then divorcing an American woman and failing to find work in the US. Has returned to his artisanal training as a wordcarver and is working on a restoration project in the Lakefield, Oh Library.

Lacey Radcliffe. 30. LACEY + PAUL "PJ" (LOVE, Burnsides Book #3). Clinical Nurse Specialist at Lakefield Memorial Hospital while working with Sam to open a neighborhood low-income clinic. Single mom of Nathan (7). Smart, hard-working, and to protect herself, has let work and motherhood take over her life. Has been the uncomfortable object of PJ's affection since she started babysitting him as a girl.
