Meet Samantha Grace, author of One Rogue Too Many.
Historical romance author Samantha Grace discovered the appeal of a great love story when she was just a young girl, thanks to Disney’s “Robin Hood”. She didn’t care that Robin Hood and Maid Marian were cartoon animals. It was her first happily-ever-after experience and she didn’t want the warm fuzzies to end. Now that Samantha is grown, she enjoys creating her own happy-endings for characters that spring from her imagination. Publisher’s Weekly describes her stories as “fresh and romantic” with subtle humor and charm. Samantha describes romance writing as the best job ever.
Part-time hospice social worker, moonlighting author, and Pilates nut, she enjoys a happy and hectic life with her real life hero and two kids in the Midwest.

Please share 5 fun facts about the book.
1. Anthony and Sebastian’s rivalry is loosely based on the friendly rivalry between NASCAR drivers Trevor Bain and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. I don’t follow NASCAR, but one of my critique partners is an enthusiast, and she told me about these two guys and their funny contests.
2. While researching about musicales, I learned that innocent young ladies would sometimes sing bawdy songs while affecting a Scottish accent. This gave me the idea for one of my favorite scenes between Gabby, Anthony, and Sebastian.
3. My research also led me to some sites that made me blush. I wanted to read up on ancient erotic art for another fun scene where Gabby stumbles across a private art collection she shouldn’t. She and Anthony end up hiding in a cabinet filled with an unusual collector’s item to avoid being discovered in the hidden room.
4. Anthony and Gabby both appeared in my debut book Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel, so their romance has been in the works for a long time.
5. The jilted rogue will get his day. His book, In Bed with a Rogue, will be released September 2, 2014.
What was your inspiration behind your story?
The idea for a younger sister/brother’s best friend romance came from watching the interactions between my daughter and her older brother’s friend. Sometimes the friend would be nice to her. Then other times he would pull pranks on her or reject her. One day I was very irritated with him for hurting her feelings and I thought, ‘Some day she is going to grow up to be a beauty and you’re going to want her attention, but she won’t care a thing about you.’ Then my imagination took over and created a story about two neighbors who grew up together and fell in love as adults, but their shared past creates a obstacles to trusting one another. I needed more conflict, however, and what better way to do it than to add competition for her heart? I needed another rogue!
What are the favorite types of characteristics found in a hero and heroine?
I like clever heroes with a sense of humor. I also like him to be respectful of women and protective of the ones closest to him. If he’s a little emotionally wounded, that’s okay too. There’s something very appealing about a man conquering his demons for love.
I like a heroine who is spunky and able to stand up to the men in her life. I don’t like her to be snarky, however. I think snarky characters can come across as petulant without the author intending them to be that way. Basically, I like a heroine I wouldn’t mind meeting for lunch. She doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, I would prefer her to have a flaw or two that she needs to works on. Otherwise, she can seem boring and unbelievable as a person. But self-confident and kind works for me.
What’s next for you?
I’m very excited about a collaborative novel I have coming out February 3rd, The Heart of a Duke. There are five authors on the project, and we had the best time plotting out our story and developing our characters. It will be available digitally and in print. Here’s a short summary:
Five friends receive a pendant from a gypsy along with a prophecy that whoever wears the necklace will win the heart of a duke. With varying expectations, each girl accepts her turn with the good luck charm and a chance at happily-ever- after—secretly fearing the gypsy’s tale may be nothing more than a plot to sell a worthless piece of jewelry.
It’s Jane Austen meets The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Thank you to Ramblings from This Chick for having me as a guest today! I look forward to chatting with everyone.

ReplyDeleteHi, Sandra! Thank you! I'm really excited about this book and the response it has been getting from readers so far. Readers make all the hard work worth it! :)
DeleteI'm so bad and so-o-o-o far behind...I have all of your previous books on my TBR shelves but haven't read any of them yet! (Hangs head in shame) I promise I'll do something about that soon. And now, I'm looking forward to adding your new series to my already groaning shelves! SMBSLT! Congratulations on the release of the new baby! Sounds like a winner!
ReplyDeleteHi, Karen!
DeleteIf you hang your head in shame, then I'll have to hang mine too. I have a huge TBR stack on my bedside table. I have close friends' books I haven't read yet, but I'm sure they understand. Life is busy and there just aren't enough hours in the day for reading. (We really should do something about that!)
Happy reading, whatever you pick up next! :)
Congrats on your latest release! I really can't wait to read this book; it has been on my TBR list for a few months and I haven't gotten my hands on it yet.

I just love historical romances!! For sure adding your books to my TBR!!
ReplyDeleteShannon,
DeleteI love to be swept away by a historical romance. Tonight would be a good one for reading by the fireplace. It's cold and we are supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow later.
Pretty cover. Love the purple. Is one rogue really enough? ;)
ReplyDeleteExcellent point, Sue! :D
DeleteI absolutely love the cover. It's one of the few where I saw the raw photo before it became a cover. The original photo had red, which was pretty, but the purple is a wow for me.

Every time I see this title I think - You can Never have enough Rogues!
ReplyDeleteHahaha… Isn't that the truth? ;D
DeleteSamantha, I like your definition of a fave hero and heroine...my type exactly! Always a problem or two to work through, a courtship "dance" of to and fro, and always the HEA. Yea for HEA's!! Thanks for this post today...and I love your stories. jdh2690@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Janice! :)
DeleteI can get behind cheering for HEAs! Go, Team Romance!!!
It sounds like a really great book. I completely agree on your definitions of heroes and heroines. This is a definite read for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steph! I hope you enjoy it! :)
DeleteI can't wait to read this one. You are right about snarky characters coming off wrong if an author isn't very, very careful. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, Glenda!
DeleteThere are authors who can pull off the snark and make it funny, but I've read some snark that missed the humor target for me. I think it takes a lot of skill. :)
I loved the Beau Monde Bachelor Series & I am so looking forward to reading your new series! I also love the brother's best friend trope.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sharlene! (waving)
DeleteI'm feeling enthusiastic about this series, and I recently learned there is very likely to be a third book. :)
