Interview with Author Larissa Ione and Giveaway

Meet Larissa Ione, author of Reaper.

A former meteorologist and EMT, Air Force veteran Larissa Ione now gets her daily dose of excitement from vampires, werewolves, demons, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. She lives in wintery Wisconsin with her U.S. Coast Guard husband, her teenage son, a rescue cat, and her hellhound, a King Shepherd named Hexe.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Sure! First, though, I want to say how happy I am to be here! I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, but I’m also a meteorologist, a dog trainer, an animal lover, a wife, a mother, and a huge Trekkie!

Did you always want to be a writer?
Pretty much for as long as I can remember. I started writing stories when I was a small child, and by the time I was 13 I’d written my first full-length book. But life got in the way, and I only wrote sporadically for many years. It wasn’t until 1997 when I was pregnant with my son that I got the strong urge to write seriously again.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I’m both and neither. I REALLY wish I was capable of being a pantser, because I look at friends who can write really fast that way. Sadly, I have to plot or my stories just don’t work, but I hate plotting with every fiber of my being. I’ve never found a method that works for me, and I write every book different.

Where do your ideas come from?
Everywhere! Books, movies, video games, life and people around me. Inspiration is in everything!

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Two star-crossed angels must fight memory loss, demons, and Satan himself to save Heaven and Earth…and themselves.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I love horror, historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. Recently I’ve read some thrillers that have been a lot of fun, too. I’m all about any story set in remote, icy locations.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
That’s a really tough one, but ultimately, I’ll go with Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World. It’s such an amazing start to a massively complex fantasy series that has become my favorite of all time. I also adore The Sunne in Splendour, by Sharon Kay Penman. I love her writing and her ability to turn historically “bad” people very human.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
Action scenes, hands down. Well, those and sex scenes. I love writing steamy scenes, but they take probably 5 times longer than other scenes. A good sex scene contains so much more than just the action (and again, action isn’t my strong suit,) and it’s a challenge balancing plot, emotion, sex, action, and everything else that needs to be written into a well-done intimate moment.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
The above mentioned Robert Jordan (if he was still alive,) Sharon Kay Penman, and Stephen King. I would LOVE to pick their brains on writing and their inspiration behind their stories. But then, if I were at a table with them, I’d probably be so terrified and intimidated that I wouldn’t say a word!

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m working on four different projects, actually. I do that a lot. I like to spend my time shuffling around and writing a couple of scenes from each project every day. So right now I’m dividing my time between two Demonica/Lords of Deliverance projects, Revenant, Azagoth, a MoonBound Clan Vampires book, Chained By Night, and a Sydney Croft novella.

Thank you again for having me! Since we just finished the holiday season, I’d like to ask your blog readers what they did on New Year’s Eve. Happy New Year, everyone!

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before . . . to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood. . .

  2. My son and I sat up and watched Tosh.0, and for all you parents out there, my son is 17. I know Daniel Tosh is a bit on the brash side, but he sometimes make me laugh my ass off. Something that shocked me was that after midnight, Comedy Central stopped bleeping out the F word!

  5. Thank you for the cool interview. I spent New Year's Eve at a hospital in Delaware with my mom, who had surgery that day. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Normally I would be at home with my hubby and 4 kids, hanging out by eating tons of food and playing board games (we usually have a marathon of board games), but I spent New Year's Day and a few more days as well about 150 miles from home. I am hoping that 2014 will be much better than 2013!
