Guest Post with Author Amber A. Bardan and Giveaway

After spending years imagining fictional adventures, Amber finally found a way to turn daydreaming into a productive habit. She now spends her days as a graphic designer but her nights writing sizzling tales about heroes with tough exteriors who are warm inside.

She lives with her husband and children in semi-rural Australia, where if she peers outside at the right moment she might just see a kangaroo bounce by.

How dirty is too dirty?

If you’re asking me this question, I must warn you my excess smut receptors have left me with a very high tolerance for kink in romance. But, I had to ask myself this question several times lately when wondering if certain scenes in my book For Her Protection and also in the second book in the series For His Protection, might be too much for an erotic romance and actually bump them up to the next level—erotica.

A little over a year ago I remember discussing with other romance authors where is the “line” for this kind of thing? Immediately people replied—anal, if it has anal then its erotica, or voyeurism, or ménage, and so on this list grew.

However in the time since then, I have to say I’ve come to disagree. In all honesty I believe that it’s not about the “act” itself at all. In the right context I’d go so far as to say that anything can go. We all know how certain popular Erotic Romance novels have brought previously “taboo” BDSM acts to the mainstream, but I’ve also seen authors like Megan Hart tackle Ménage, Cara Mckenna tackle Voyeurism. I’ve seen these things done well and sensitively. I’ve seen them handled delicately within the context of a developing romance.

And therein lays the “line” in my humble opinion. When kink is not simply thrown in as titillation, or a personal challenge to see how the author can escalate dirtiness in order to shock, and it actually forms part of the development of a romance, then as far as I’m concerned, it goes. For me it all comes back to; is this romantic?

So what are your limits?

You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.

Yet pleasure seems to be the one and only thing on Charlize’s mind the moment Connor steamrolls into her life. Desperate to save her family company, prove she’s more than a pretty face and worthy of being CEO, pleasure is a distraction she can’t afford.

She doesn’t want a bodyguard, especially not one whose caveman heroics kick her libido into hyperdrive. But surrounded by enemies and an attacker on the loose, there’s only one man she can trust with her life.

Connor knows better than to get personal with clients. Yet there couldn’t be anything more personal about his feelings for Charlize. From the moment he clapped eyes on her he wanted nothing more than to throw her over his shoulder and really give her something to scream about. He’ll get his uptight she-cat to unwind, preferably one orgasm at a time.

With Connor in her office, her home, driving her to sweet, merciless distraction, there’s only so long Charlize can resist his sexy, dominant brand of protection.

  1. I think my limit depends on how well the author writes the story! I used to say that I don't read erotica, but since trying it, I DO now read at least some of it!

  2. I think it's all about the story and how well it's written. Must say I don't care to read about physical pain. I don't find that sexy

  3. I don't have many limits. I'll read about anything. I don't like any abuse, physical or emotional. But, I can handle BDSM and all that pleasure/pain stuff.
