Interview with Author Tawdra Kandle and Giveaway

Meet Tawdra Kandle, author of Just Desserts.

Tawdra Kandle has been a writer since the invention of the pen. Her first published work appeared in Child's Life magazine when she was 13. After a brief, thirty-year hiatus, she published a young adult quartet, The King Series. More recently, she's released contemporary and paranormal romances in both the adult and New Adult genres. Tawdra lives in central Florida with her husband and children, of both skin and fur types. And yes, she has purple hair.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Thanks for having me. Sure. . .I'm a romance author. I write love stories in paranormal and contemporary genres, young adult, New Adult and adult. I love to read, and I'm passionate about all things books.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Always. I began writing when I was very young, and my first short story was published in a children's magazine when I was 13. Even when I wasn't actively writing, I always was a story teller.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
Complete pantser. I rarely have a full road map of the story before I begin writing. I am always surprised by at least one twist I had no idea was coming. That's what makes it fun!

Where do your ideas come from?
My ideas come from all over. Most of the time, I come across a situation or a person who piques my curiosity, and I begin to ask what if questions. "What if she made a different choice. . .?" "What if things happened this way, instead? That's the jumping off point.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Love makes you do the wacky, including breaking all the rules. Whether it's revenge or unexpected love, the perfect dish is best served hot.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I like to read about strong women and men who aren't threatened by that strength. I don't like too much angst, though some is all right. I appreciate characters who are real and flawed and three-dimensional.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
Of course not, I love them all the same! All right, all right. . .because I'm a sucker for historical fiction, Celia Garth by Gwen Bristow is probably my most consistent re-read. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is also a huge favorite, as is The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
Probably the connective scenes. I love action, love scenes and lots of dialogue, but writing the basic how a character gets from point A to point B make me impatient. I want to get to the good stuff.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
This one I like. Nora Roberts, Anne Rice and Diana Gabaldon, because I would love to hear about their process and just listen to them tell stories. They all write magnificent women and beautiful love stories. What a dinner that would be!

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
All the time. At the moment, I'm finishing up THE LAST ONE, a New Adult romance that's a follow up to THE POSSE. That will be released in early August. After that, I'm diving into my adult para-mystery series, Recipe for Death. The first book is DEATH FRICASSEE, and it's scheduled for release in early October.

What is the most important trait in a female lead character, the one thing that makes you feel like she could be your best friend?

When her friend Julia needed help forming a revenge plan against her ex-boyfriend, Ava was happy to lend a hand. She never expected that in the course of making Liam pay, she'd be the one to fall hard. . .for the one person who was absolutely off-limits. Crushing on the guy who humiliated her best friend is definitely against the girl code.

Besides, Ava has goals. Her life is all about graduating with honors and landing the perfect job. And Liam Bailey—sweet-talking, complicated son of a well-known local politician—isn't part of those plans.

But Liam doesn't give up easily. And he doesn't intend to let their friends' opinions, his parents' disapproval or Ava's past get in the way of what he wants--Ava's heart.
