Tips and Tricks to Get Ready for Your 10-Year High School Reunion

A successful New York model, Olivia, the heroine of Private Affair, has come back to Howard County, Maryland, to find out who killed her former high school best friend. Police have labeled the homicide an isolated incident. But other members of the class have died under suspicious circumstances, and Olivia suspects that a clever killer has been using different murder methods to confuse the cops. Not only that, as she begins to think back over her high school years, she realizes that all the victims attended a particular party at the home of a classmate in their senior year.

Olivia’s hired Rockfort agent, Max Lyon, to help with the investigation. She needs his P.I. skills to solve the case, but she also remembers him as the bad boy a few classes ahead of her at Donley. They only interacted once back then, when he stopped a couple of jerks from harassing her and a friend at a pizza parlor

But they mostly moved in different circles, with Olivia doing what it took to stay in the popular crowd. She’s not proud of her behavior back then, which is one reason she’s wary of pretending to be Max’s fiancĂ© now. If she tells him the truth about her past, what will he think of her?

As Olivia’s counterfeit fiancĂ©, Max has access to the reunion planning committee, where everyone is a murder suspect. Olivia knows her former classmates are surprised to see him with her. And after the meeting, she struggles to keep her own emotions under control as they return to her childhood home to discuss the case.

If you’ve ever attended a high school reunion, you probably know some of what Olivia is feeling. She wonders what people really thought about her back then, and she wants to make a good impression now that she’s been out in the world on her own for ten years.

She’s still the most beautiful woman in the class, and she knows how to enhance her good looks with clothes and makeup. That helps give her confidence. She’s also got a great career.

But what will people think about her showing up with a former Donley bad boy?

If you’re going to your own reunion, you probably have concerns that are similar to Olivia’s. I recently attended a high school reunion and wanted to lose a few pounds before I saw these people again. But like Olivia, I knew I was successful in my career. In my case, as the author of more than 100 novels and cookbooks.

I wasn’t one of the popular kids in high school. I think if you were, you’d be worried about maintaining your position as a success. And if you were one of the kids who was really in the “out” crowd, you’d want to go back if you’d succeeded in the world. If you were always a high school loser and a loser in life, you probably wouldn’t bother to show up.

A high school reunion brings back all kinds of good and bad memories. But it’s what you’ve done since then that really counts.

Model Olivia Winters comes home to escape her job in New York City, and finds herself compelled to investigate the suspicious suicide of a former high school classmate. She enlists the help of private investigator Max Lyon, an ex-detective from a troubled family. Posing as husband and wife, the pair uncovers a grisly trail of murder, and the danger propels them into each other's arms.

With a murderer on the loose, Max and Olivia realize they're in too deep, too late. They're getting close to the truth—and to each other's secrets.

  9. My class has never had a high school reunion. I graduated in a class of only 65. Most of us have scattered around the country since high school, so we've never put anything together. Now all these years later, I'm not sure I'd want to go anyway...

  13. I took my husband. He spent his junior year with us but moved before his senior year. Still he is more an alum of our HS than the one he did graduate from.

  17. My hubby and I went to my 20th hs reunion in 2007. Over the years I had given him many stories about my growing up in a small town (there were only 60 in my graduating class) and how I grew up with some very small-minded people (I was bullied and never quite fit in). When we left the reunion, I asked him what he thought and he said that he had an interesting time and that he was glad that I "escaped that damned Podunk town and the crazies that still inhabit it."
