Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. She holds a master’s degree in social work and spent years as a mental health counselor, but now she writes full time from her cozy office in Dallas, Texas where she puts her characters on the therapy couch instead. She is a two-time RITA Award winner and a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
Hi y’all! I love the idea of a blind date with a book. I’ve seen this concept in bookstores where they wrap the book in butcher paper and have a little note about it. I feel like this is a great way to step outside your normal reading zone and find something that still appeals to all the things you like about the books you read. So, in that vein, I decided to make my blind date a book that is considered more mainstream fiction than a romance, but is still totally a heartfelt romance with a happy ending.
So here are a few clues about this blind date book:
- You’ll think you know how you want it to end, but this author is going to take you for a ride yet still leave you swooning.
- You are going to cry. (I typically do not like books that make me cry in a sad way, BUT I assure you that this one isn’t depressing. The crying is totally worth it.)
- There’s a bookstore involved in the plot. I love books about bookish things.
- This is a book that will make you think “What would I do if put in this impossible situation?” which is a thing I love in a story (and this author has a knack for doing that in a lot of her plots.)
- Tackles the question: “Is there such thing as a soul mate?”
So there you go. Do you have any guesses?
Twelve years ago, tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a small number of students survived, a group the media dubbed as The Ones Who Got Away. Now, web designer Liv Arias, along with the rest of the survivors, have returned to the small Texas town to tell their stories for a documentary. Which means Liv seeing former star-athlete and old flame Finn Dorsey. A lot happened between them that night and Liv is ready to end their decade-long riff and move on. But when her attempt at closure turns into a steamy kiss, moving on proves much more difficult than either of them thought...Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package. The smooth face was now dusted with scruff, and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence. A thousand things were in those eyes. A thousand things welled up in Liv.
