ARC Review: Allure by CA Harms

Allure is the first book in the Brooklet Dreams series by CA Harms. This is a second generation spin-off of her Southern Boys series, featuring kids of our favorite couples and I honestly couldn’t wait to read this when I found out about it. It was great to see some of my favorite characters again and see the next generation of their families and how things had turned out. CA Harms brought everything that I had loved from that series and more here, and I fell for Rhett right along with AJ.

Rhett thought that he had found his forever when he was just a boy. His best friend and first everything Harley was supposed to be there with him every step of the way, but when she moved away and didn’t return he was left broken hearted and waiting for her to come back. But when he saw that she had moved on, he opened himself up again and met AJ. Things soon more between them as he found himself happier than ever and not only the old Rhett, but the best version of himself possible. But just as his future is beginning to take shape once again, his past returns and everything changes once again.

I loved Rhett so much. He was sweet and kind, sexy and thoughtful. He was such a great character and you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. It was easy to see how irresistible he would be for both AJ and Harley. He is definitely a worthy book boyfriend and the kind of hero that makes readers love romance. I will admit that I am always a fan of second chance romances and at first I really wanted Rhett to wind up with Harley. But all that changed as soon as we started getting to know AJ. She was an amazing heroine. Sweet and sassy, she wasn’t afraid to put Rhett in his place and make him work for it. But she was so easy to relate to and I found her vulnerabilities to be ones that a lot of readers will be able to relate to. She really cared for Rhett, but she was also really scared about having her heart broken and not being enough to overcome what Rhett had once had with Harley. I loved that she didn’t let that stop her from taking the risk though. She put herself out there and the chemistry and connection between her and Rhett was amazing to read about.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and the characters. I felt like things turned out exactly as they were meant to. Not only was this a great love story, but it was a great book about friendship and family as well. CA Harms excels at writing heartfelt and emotional stories that seem so genuine and believable, because the characters are unique and easy to relate to. Allure was a great start to the Brooklet Dreams series and will appeal to those that are already fans of CA Harms, as well as those that are new to her. I can’t wait to read more in this series as well as whatever else she writes in the future.

ARC Review: Revenge by C.A. Harms

Revenge is the third book in the Phoenix Undercover series by C.A. Harms. This book is not a standalone and should only be read if you have read the previous two books as it is the continuation of Josh and Gabby's story. After reading the first two books, I couldn't wait to see how things would play out here for these characters and it was good to see all of them again in Revenge. There were times here that I was frustrated, but ultimately this was a good conclusion to this series.

After all that they have been through Gabby and Josh are together and planning for their future. But while they were moving forward with their lives Josh's undercover case put not only Josh and Gabby in danger, but the life of their unborn son. Determined to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe, Josh throws himself into his work in order to finally take down Leo. But as determined as Josh is to find Leo and protect his family, Leo is just as determined to finally get his hands on Gabby once and for all. Can Josh save both Gabby and his son before it is too late, or will Leo finally get what he has been after all along?

I have to admit that I was really upset with Josh for the majority of this book. While the feelings between Gabby and Josh were still there and as strong as ever, Josh all but abandoned Gabby and his unborn child here. He threw himself into the case and got so caught up in taking Leo down that he seemed to neglect Gabby and his family. The connection between them seemed to suffer a bit, and I think that was due to the fact that these two spent almost this entire book apart or with a ton of distance between them. I got that the situation was dangerous and that his job was important, but I just felt like there was this huge disconnect here and the spark between them had been dimmed compared to the previous books.

While I was a bit disappointed with Josh and how things went for him and Gabby throughout this book, I did like how things ended up. It was great to see things wrapped up for these characters as well as see some familiar faces with Josh's friends and Gabby's family. I liked them a lot and while at times I did feel like they took over a bit, I felt like they were important to the story. I was still a bit torn on Gabby's sister Audrey because while I wanted to like her and forgive all that had happened, the situation from the first book has never completely left my mind. But I did feel like Gabby and Josh belonged together after everything, so I was glad that they were able to work through everything that had happened. While I liked the conclusion to this story, I didn't love it. I would rate this one somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars because I just couldn't help but feel like Josh really acted poorly here, despite his intentions. While I have liked this series and thought that the potential was there, I will admit that it wasn't my favorite from C.A. Harms. It is still worth the read (as are all her books), but I just felt like this one wasn't quite what I had hoped for to close out the series. I am hoping that C.A. Harms will give us more of Gabby's sisters, I would especially love to see more for Brooklynn. I am really loving where things were with her here, and think that there is definitely more story to tell there. I really do enjoy everything I read from C.A. Harms though, and I recommend giving her books a shot if you haven't already.

ARC Review: Clash by C.A. Harms

I am a huge fan of C.A. Harms, so I pretty much don't even read the blurbs for her books anymore. If I see her name on it, I know I have to read it. Once I did read the blurb for Clash though, I was completely sold! I knew this book was going to be an emotional journey for not only the characters but for readers as well, and it definitely was. I will warn some readers that there are some difficult subjects dealt with here and if you have any triggers with violence you might want to keep that in mind before starting this one. I think this is a great story that is well worth the read though, even if it is difficult to get through at times.

After her mother left her behind at a young age, Payton was forced to endure a life no one should have to from the one man that was supposed to protect her. Approaching graduation, Payton knew that if she kept her head down, she would soon be able to get out and she would do whatever it took to make sure that she never had to see her father again. But all of that changes one night, and Payton turns to her best friend Casey. Casey's family has always felt like her own, and they take Payton in immediately. Though Payton has always had a crush on Casey's older brother Dylan, she knows that now he views her as a victim and will never see her as more than a little sister that he needs to look out for. But when Dylan finally starts to see Payton differently, can they find a way to have a relationship when it seems the world is intent at throwing obstacles in their way at every turn?

I really liked Dylan and Payton. Payton was a survivor and she was stronger than she even realized. I loved that she never gave up and that she sought out help. It was so refreshing to see a heroine that knew she couldn't do it all on her own, and she turned to her friends and a therapist to help her through the aftermath of a horrible situation. I liked that things with Dylan evolved in a natural way and that he was very supportive of her. He knew when to push her a bit and also when to just be there for her when she needed him. These two already had history and the beginning of a great connection, but I really enjoyed seeing as they transitioned into more. The chemistry between them was smoking hot, and you could really feel how much these two felt for one another.

The only thing that kept me from rating this one five stars was that I felt at times the drama got to be a bit much and things were resolved a bit too easily. Otherwise though, I really enjoyed this book. I loved Payton and Dylan and the secondary characters. There was a ton of steam and emotion, and as I said before C.A. Harms dealt with some really tough topics here. I felt like she showed them in a respectful way and showed that healing and growth is possible and how important it is to get help in situations like Payton's. I felt so much for Payton and at times my heart broke for all that she was going through. C.A. Harms is one of my go-to authors at this point, and I thought that Clash was a really great story. If you haven't read anything by C.A. Harms yet, you are missing out and Clash is a great place to start. If you are already a fan of Harms though, this is one you will enjoy. I am looking forward to more from her in the future, and I know that whatever she writes I will be reading.

ARC Review: Chaos by C.A. Harms

Chaos is the second book in the Phoenix Undercover series from C.A. Harms. This book is not a standalone as it continues the story of Josh and Gabby from where the first book, Lies, left off. I have been waiting for this book since I finished Lies, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen after that cliffhanger! It was so good to see more of these characters and I can't wait for book three now!

Joshua Phoenix was used to being an undercover agent and had no problems living the life until he met Gabby. So when a case he is working forces him to not only go into hiding, but to let all those he loves believe that he is dead, he struggles with his life continuing on without him as though he doesn't exist. He knows that he needs to protect Gabby and those he loves, so he does what he has to do. But when Gabby's life is threatened and no one seems to be making any progress, Josh scrambles to find answers before it is too late, especially when someone they all trust could be responsible for everything. Can Josh figure out who to trust and what is going on, or will he lost the woman he loves?

I really loved Josh and Gabby in the first book, and I loved them here as well. There was so much going on in this book, and my heart broke for them! They had already been through so much, and the hits just kept coming here. Both Gabby and Josh were feeling so much, that it was easy to see how sometimes their actions were more from an emotional place than a logical one. Especially when it came to Josh. I felt so badly for them both, and yet at times I wanted to shake them, Josh especially. But the love that they shared was so strong, and I knew that if anyone could find a way through it would be these two. The chemistry between them was as strong here as it was in the first book, but there was so much more of an emotional connection here. I really enjoyed seeing that and how far these two had come.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot and I already can't wait for more! I loved Josh and Gabby, but I really came to love Josh's friends and Gabby's sisters here. I loved the roles they played in this book, and I honestly hope we get more of all of them! C.A. Harms is such a fantastic writer, and she always makes the reader fall in love with not only the hero and heroine, but the secondary characters as well. I know with each book I read from her that I will be drawn in right away and that I won't be able to put the book down until I have read the last word. Chaos was really great and even though there isn't a huge cliffhanger here, things are definitely left open ended. I look forward to reading more about these characters and whatever else C.A. Harms writes next. If you haven't read anything from Harms, I highly recommend her books! I have loved everything I have read from C.A. Harms, but the Phoenix Undercover series is shaping up to be one of my favorites from her yet!

ARC Review: Noah's Journey by C.A. Harms

Noah's Journey is the third book in the Sawyer Brothers series from C.A. Harms. Not only do I love this series, but I love everything I have read from Harms. Each book in this series is a standalone, but the characters are interconnected. If you haven't read the previous books though, you can absolutely jump in here with no problems. I really enjoyed Noah's story, and I liked seeing all my favorite characters from this series again!

Noah was left with a broken heart when his girlfriend left him and the country life behind for the big city. He vowed to never give his heart away again, but four years later he is finally open to taking a chance with Alena. Things are going great until his ex suddenly returns to town, with her nearly four year old son who looks just like Noah. Finding out he is a father and missed out on so much with his son, Noah will do whatever it takes to make sure that he never misses anything again. But with his and Alena's relationship just starting, can he have both his son and the life he was beginning to build with Alena?

I really liked these two. They had so much going for them, just to have everything change! I thought that both Alena and Noah handled things well, considering they had absolutely no idea how to deal with things. Yes they made mistakes and things were far from easy, but it was clear that both of them wanted to make things work despite everything that was going on. Alena had fears and insecurities from her childhood, and Noah's ex didn't help things. I felt really bad for her at times, and yet she was such a great person. She was supportive and understanding with Noah, and she really embraced his son right away. Noah was dedicated to his son and to showing him how important he was to him. I loved seeing him embrace that role instantly, and the love for Austin was clear right away. Though he didn't always handle things the best with Alena, it was clear that he cared about her. He had no idea what he was doing or how to balance everything, but he was trying and that was what really mattered. He also wasn't afraid to admit when he messed up and apologize, and honestly that is something that made me fall for him even more! These two had great chemistry and a clear connection, and I loved seeing them together!

The only thing that I will say is that I felt like this book focused more everything that was going on with Noah and Austin as well as the family and his ex than it did on Noah and Alena's growing relationship. Their relationship almost felt like a subplot here with everything else that was going on. Not that I didn't enjoy seeing him become a father and learning how to deal with that change, but I missed some of Alena and Noah really connecting here. I believed their connection and their feelings, but I would have liked to have seen more of it. That was especially true for the epilogue. While it was good to see how things turned out down the road and getting caught up on all of the Sawyer brothers and their women, we saw a lot had gone on for Noah and Alena, yet we didn't get to experience it. There was so much more story there for them, and I was sad to have missed it. I felt like we were just told the highlights, and I think we missed out on a lot by not actually seeing it. I still really loved Noah and Alena, and I definitely think that fans of this series will enjoy this book. I have to say that I am most excited about the next book in this series though, and getting a glimpse at Olivia's story has me chomping at the bit for more! I have loved her since we first met her, and I cannot wait to get her story! After growing up with her dad and uncles, she is a feisty one and I know I am going to love her even more than I already do! I highly recommend this series, and you can't go wrong with anything from C.A. Harms.

ARC Review: Undeniable by C.A. Harms

C.A. Harms is one of my absolute favorites at this point and I really enjoy her books. That being said, I really couldn't wait to get my hands on Jude's book! I knew there was so much more to him than what we had seen and I couldn't wait to dig deeper when it came to what made him who he is. I really liked Jude's story and it was great to finally get to know more about him. Undeniable is the fourth book in the Key West series and fans will love to see familiar faces. But if you haven't read any of the previous books, this book is a complete standalone and you will have no problems understanding anything.

Jude has always kept his life as private as possible, choosing not to let many people in. He knows what can happen when you do, and he has seen enough hurt to know that he will do whatever it takes to make sure his family never has to go through loving and losing again. Jude has also seen the interest Callie has shown in him, and he knows that he has to keep her at arm's length because she could very easily get under his skin. But when the unexpected happens and Jude is forced to allow others into his life, Callie is determined to help him and his family. Can Jude allow Callie into his life and heart, or will he continue to push her away?

I really liked Jude and Callie together. These two were perfect for one another. They were sweet and supportive and it was obvious just how well they worked together. Callie was so kind and good-natured, and I don't think I have ever seen a heroine with more heart than her. She is one of those characters that you just instantly love. Jude on the other hand started off really gruff and rude, but it was all a front to try and protect himself. He lashed out when he felt cornered or as though others were doing something out of pity when it concerned him, so it was really nice to see him start to rely on those around him more. He had a great support system and group of friends, and loved that he started to open up to them and let them in.

Overall, this was a great story filled with love and friendship. It was an emotional read, and while it was uplifting and heartwarming, it was also sad. It was so good though, and I knew C.A. Harms would do the story and characters justice here. While I did love this book, the one thing I will say is that for me it did feel a little rushed. Callie and Jude's relationship changed very suddenly as did Jude's whole attitude towards her. While I believed that he always had feelings for her, it did seem like he just flipped a switch and decided to be with her. I would have liked a little more build-up between them so as not to feel like it just went from zero to sixty in no time at all. As much as I loved them, it just wasn't truly believable for them to go from nothing to everything. I still think that C.A. Harms is a fantastic writer though, and I love the emotion she brings to her stories. I can't recommend her books enough, and Undeniable is one that I think readers will really enjoy.

ARC Review: Lies by C.A. Harms

I'll be honest and admit that I don't even really read the blurbs anymore when I see that a book is by C.A. Harms. If it has her name on it, I am going to read it. But when I did read this book's blurb, I couldn't wait to read this story. While I love the contemporary stories that Harms writes, I was excited to get something with a bit of suspense here. I would still call this one a contemporary, but there are suspense elements to the story. Lies is a really great story no matter how you classify it though, and I honestly cannot wait for more. This book does end with a cliffhanger, and we will see more of Josh and Gabby in Chaos.

Joshua Phoenix is an undercover FBI agent that has just taken on a new assignment. This huge opportunity is a dangerous one, but solving this case could make his career. But right as things are heating up for the case, he meets a woman that changes everything for him. He knows that Gabriella Shannon is special right away, and though he knows he should walk away he can't help himself. Soon Josh is questioning his ability to stay committed to his job and the mission he is on, especially when his future with Gabby is at stake. But when Josh is given no choice in order to protect those he loves, he knows that they will be the ones that get hurt the most.

Josh and Gabby drew me in right away. I absolutely loved them and they had amazing chemistry from the very start. I couldn't get enough of these two, and the sparks were clearly flying. Gabby was smart and understanding, and she was so easy to like. She was perfect for Josh and I really admired her strength. They were just starting a relationship, but she went in with her eyes open and made the choice to stand by Josh. She was supportive and exactly what Josh needed in a woman. Josh was sexy and and honorable, and committed to doing good through his job and the way he lived his life. I hated a lot of the situations he was put in, but I understood why he was doing what he did. I never once questioned his feelings or commitment to Gabby though, and it was easy to see that had he known her before taking the assignment he was on that he never would have done it. He was determined to have her be his top priority, and unfortunately he wasn't in a position to just walk away from his job at times.

Overall, I loved these two and I really believed in them as a couple. Their relationship was strong even with all the obstacles in their way. The love between them was undeniable. I will say that I knew trouble was coming though and that I went into this one knowing there was a cliffhanger. I mentally prepared myself as much as possible knowing that I wouldn't get an HEA here, but yet I couldn't stop reading! I need the next book and I hope that we don't have to wait too long to get it. Gabby and Josh's story is far from over, and I need to know what happens next! This book is one I would recommend if you like some suspense with your romance, but not to the point that it takes over. C.A. Harms is a great writer and I thought that she had the perfect balance of action and romance here. The story is so easy to lose yourself in, and I am really looking forward to finding out what happens next.

ARC Review: Jackson's Destiny by C.A. Harms

C.A. Harms has become one of my go-to authors for an all around great story. She never disappoints, and her books are always emotional and beautiful. So I couldn't wait to read Jackson's Destiny. This story is the second book in the Sawyer Brother's series, but it can be read as a standalone. Though the characters are interconnected, each book is about a different couple. This book was so good and I couldn't put it down.

Jackson Sawyer was always the strong and confident one until a tragedy changed everything. The loss of his father was more than he knew how to deal with, and he found himself lost in his grief. Though his brothers and family tried to pull him out of it, it wasn't until Bailey Whitmore needed help that he found himself waking up. Bailey was dealing with her own painful past and had been struggling by herself as well. So when Jackson's brother Noah offered Bailey comfort, Jackson knew he had to step in and claim Bailey once and for all. But can Jackson and Bailey heal each other from their painful pasts, or will there be too much pain and grief for them to be able to build anything together?

I really liked these two. I enjoyed seeing the chemistry and attraction between them begin in the previous book, and I could tell that they were going to be great together. Bailey and Jackson both were dealing with a lot here and they were able to understand one another and the pain that they each felt. Though the chemistry between them was there from the start, they really got to know more about one another here and I enjoyed seeing them fall for one another. Bailey was feisty and fun, but she was also really sweet. That side of her was not seen often, but Jackson had a way of bringing it out in her. Jackson was strong and sexy, and yet he had a vulnerable side to him that I hadn't expected. Seeing him so emotional here broke my heart, and I felt so bad for all that he had lost. His father was more than just a dad to him, he was his best friend and they had spent every single day together. The loss hit him so much harder than it did his brothers, and I was so glad that he was able to heal some with Bailey's help. She brought him back to life and give him the love and support that he gave her. These two were perfect for one another and I loved them together.

Overall, another great book from C.A. Harms. I am loving this series and the characters, and it was really great to see Ryan, Amber, and Olivia again. I also really liked seeing Alena and Noah and I thought that C.A. Harms did a great job of setting up their story next. While I really enjoyed this book, the one thing I will say is that I felt like the relationship between Jackson and Bailey happened at almost warp speed and if you are against insta-love you might want to skip this one. While insta-love isn't my favorite thing, I really felt like though things happened fast here that it was for the most part believable. The connection between Jackson and Bailey felt so strong and real to me that I found I still believed in their relationship even if the timeline didn't seem plausible. I would have liked to have seen things move a little slower here and maybe have seen them get to know one another better, but I did still think that these two were meant to be together. I think that contemporary romance fans will really enjoy this book and series though, and I can't wait for the next book. I can already tell that it is going to be very interesting with how C.A. Harms left this book and I can't wait to get more of the Sawyer Brothers!

ARC Review: Uncontrollable by C.A. Harms

Uncontrollable is the third book in the Key West series from C.A. Harms. Each book can be read as a standalone story with interconnected characters. The Key West series is also a spin-off of her Southern Boys Series, but you do not need to have read those books in order to read these. While it isn't necessary to read these in order since they are standalones, I do think that you get the most enjoyment from the series by reading them in order as each book sets up the next one and you do get to know the characters better that way. Plus these books are just really great stories, and C.A. Harms never disappoints!

Kade and Avery have both been drawn to each other for the past year, though neither of them has acted on it. Kade has a painful past that he has been trying to forget, but he can't seem to let go of. Avery wants to pursue Kade, but she knows that he needs to let go of his past if they ever have a chance at something real together. So when they finally give in to the attraction between them, Avery thinks that things will finally be different. But Kade scared of what his feelings for Avery are becoming, pulls a jerk move that has Avery ready to move on for good. Kade knows that he messed up the second after he does, but he also knows that Avery deserves better than him and anything he can offer. But when the unexpected happens, Kade realizes that it is time to finally grow up and move on once and for all. He knows that it will take everything to win Avery back after how he acted, but will it be too late for him to get another chance with her?

I really liked these two. Avery was sweet and kind, and always looking out for others. She was stuck in an impossible situation here, and yet I thought that she handled it very well. She was so supportive and caring, and that was exactly what Kade needed. Kade had so much pain and guilt, and his anger had been holding back for so long. Avery helped him to see that it was time for him to grow up and that his anger wouldn't change anything. I really enjoyed seeing the man that Kade was able to be once he finally saw the light, and I really admired the man he was underneath it all. He was so full of love and happiness, and it was so refreshing to see a man that was able to turn his life around and really embrace the ones he loved. These two were great together, and I really felt their connection. They had a lot of chemistry as well and were super hot together, but it was their bond that really made these two so special.

My one complaint here was that I felt like the big conflict here was a bit glossed over and things were a bit too easily resolved. Kade had a lot to move on from and make up for, and while I was glad that things ended how they did, I also felt it was a bit unrealistic how quick and easy things changed. I wanted to see a bit more of the recovery for him and really see that things were better, and I felt like it was pretty instant. Not that I didn't love him for changing and becoming better, I guess I just wanted to see more of the whole process. But I loved these two together and I really love this series. I am really excited to read the next book after how things were set up here. Jude is one of those characters that is mostly a mystery, even to his friends, so I am very interested to see more of him and his story. I am a huge C.A. Harms fan, and each new book I read from her just solidifies her spot as one of my favorites. She always writes such wonderful and emotional stories, and I am always looking forward to more from her.

ARC Review: Ryan's Love by C.A. Harms

Ryan's Love is the first book in the new Sawyer Brothers series from C.A. Harms. I am a huge fan of C.A. Harms, so I couldn't wait to read this book. Her stories are always emotional and romantic, and I immediately find myself invested in her characters. Ryan's Love was no different, and I really enjoyed these characters and the way that their story played out.

After losing his wife suddenly, Ryan struggles with how to live a life without her. She was his best friend, and the time they spent together was too brief. Now he has to figure out a way to pick up the pieces and keep going for his daughter. For three years Ryan can't stand the thought of being with anyone else, and he isn't even tempted to look at another woman. But when Amber arrives in town to re-open her grandmother's bakery and start her life over after leaving a cheating ex-fiance, he finds himself taking interest in her. Amber knows that Ryan needs to take things slowly after losing his wife, but can she be what he and his daughter need to help heal? Or will it be too much, too soon for Ryan and Olivia to handle?

I really liked Ryan and Amber. These two were so great together, and I felt like they had such a great connection. They were really sweet together, and I liked that they were each respectful of the situation they were in. They took things slowly, and made sure to be upfront and honest with Ryan's daughter Olivia. I liked that she was their priority, and the fact that Amber was so patient and understanding about everything. She really was selfless, putting Ryan and Olivia's needs above her own wants and needs. Ryan was learning to live again, and I liked that he was able to see just how far he had come out of his grief with Amber's help. He realized that he had only been surviving for Olivia's sake, so it was great to see him step into the light after all the dark he had experienced. He had great chemistry with Amber, and I felt their relationship was so natural. These two just fit together, and it was clear that they both cared about each other and Olivia so much.

The reason that I didn't rate this one at five stars was because I felt like while I really enjoyed it and liked these two together, there were a few things I had issues with. For me, it felt like Ryan's wife Claire was too much a part of this story. While I understood it was a huge deal for he and Olivia to have lost her and that he had loved her all his life, I felt like it was hard to really ever get fully behind his new relationship with Amber when Claire was constantly in between them. I didn't expect anyone to forget her or stop mentioning her completely, but it didn't seem as though there were three years between the time she had died and the time he met Amber. It felt really fresh, and I wanted that to sort of be more in the background than it was. I also thought that there was an unnecessary bit of drama with Zoey, Claire's friend and Olivia's doctor. She seemed to be jealous and it seemed to be the start of something, only to be quickly dropped. I didn't really feel like it added anything, and yet it just felt unresolved. I did like this story overall though, and I really think that you can't go wrong with anything by C.A. Harms. The epilogue was great, and I really liked how the bonus chapter set up the next book in this series. I am anxious to see what will happen after reading the bonus chapter, and I can't wait to get to know the rest of the characters in this series better after reading about them here.
