Guest Post with Author Darcy Abriel and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to the blog author Darcy Abriel. Darcy is here today to talk about her Humanotica series, but before I give the floor to Darcy lets get to know her a bit shall we.

Darcy Abriel delights in the stories that flirt with the dark side of emotion and passion. Going back to the days of Saturday Night Chiller Theaters, series such as Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits, toss in a dash of Alfred Hitchcock and these are the stories that have always fascinated Darcy. That edgy sense of danger that leaves one tingling. Be it a roller coaster ride, a Dracula movie, or a good erotic horror read at the darkest slice of night. Visit the dark side with mystery and passion, eroticism and tingling fantasy. Explore what makes your heart pump faster, your blood run hotter, and the adrenaline surge.

Places to find Darcy:

Haevyn and the Elite Logical Life Core

Thanks, Dani, for having me here at Ramblings With the Chick. I appreciate you letting me “ramble” on about my Humanotica series which is published with Samhain Publishing.

First, a couple of definitions might help. Humanotic: A blend of human form with machine operation and technology. Humanotica: Darcy’s scifantasy stories dealing with humanotic characters and the tone of the stories threaded with a very sensual/erotic/erotica tone. You can find out more about the terminology of this world at www.humanotica.com.

There’s so much complexity to this world, but today I wanted to talk about the core of Quentopolis–the Elite Logical Life Core, referred to as the ELLC.

In creating worlds, in addition to creating species and societies, there’s the environment, the architecture, and those special mechanisms who inhabit the civilizations we create. I refer to this particular machine as a “who” because it is the ultimate machine blend of human and mechanical workings...and a bit of magic thrown in. The citizens of Quentopolis are the living, breathing organisms within the world I’ve created. Within the skeletal structure of the city, housed beneath the surface, is the E.L.L.C. This is the intellect of the world of Quentopolis. It is the brain, and is a very complicated and not fully understood entity. Even the Concilium, the highest ruling body of the city-state does not fully comprehend the enormous power, and the danger of the Elite Logical Life Core.

Entreus, the Orictan humanotic, at the heart of “Haevyn” has intimate experience with the E.L.L.C.’s suffocating power; he has found himself unwillingly beneath its control–and managed to escape. Entreus’s unwavering goal in “Haevyn” is to dismantle the E.L.L.C, to terminate its inhuman use by the Concilium Unfortunately, as with the brain in the human body, the intricacies are such that this is not something that will be achieved in the foreseeable future. He will likely be forced to a compromise in order to protect the humans attached to the Core, and to protect the citizens of Quentopolis. In the end, the needs of the many likely must control the needs of the few.

The E.L.L.C. continues to move, always in constant motion. The hum of mechanical workings, a low, ever-present vibration, the sound of never-ending, rolling thunder beneath the earth. Workers, dressed in coveralls, men and women of the Moondown Water District, the working class of Quentopolis, maintain the polished golden brilliance of the metal casings, the slotted wheels, the ball bearings, the weights and measure of seamless action.

More workers maintain the humans attached to the machine. Bodies in suspension, eyes closed, brains in almost constant engagement. What would it be like to be chained to such a monstrous machine? Entreus knows the experience very well. He has been changed by it, he suffers the emotional scars from such service.

This is the world of Humanotica. Find out more about “Haevyn,” the second book in the Humanotic series, available in March from Samhain Publishing.

Thanks for letting me share a little about this series.

Duty and honor demand the ultimate sacrifice.

Everyone has their poison. For Haevyn Breina, it's her inability to resist a dare. This time it's a challenge from her friend and lover, Grisha, to sneak into the popular, illegal cage fights that always end in all-male orgies. Eagerly she snaps up the gauntlet, unaware that she will end the night forever changed.

When expatriate humanotic warrior Entreus locks eyes with Haevyn at the sex-fueled event, he is instantly captivated. Despite a duty that binds him to an exiled malevolent sorcerer, he seeks her out in a shattering, illuminating encounter.

Grisha's plan is in motion—to bring both his warrior lovers together and heal their scarred souls with a combined passion that he alone cannot provide. But Haevyn's tormented past refuses to die. And Entreus will not rest until the Core (the ELLC) that ruined his life is destroyed.

Amid ever-tangling emotions and a brutal plot to take over the city, the three lovers walk a tightrope that could be cut at any moment. Fighting for justice, bound by duty--and a love that could alter the foundations of their world.

  8. I loved Silver and have been waiting to find out what happens to Entreus as I could tell that his story wasn't at an end. This is a fantastic world which is really complex and very confronting in a lot of ways, but then that is also what makes it so compelling as well!!

Great work Darcy - have started Haevyn and it has been great so far too!!

    1. Hey, I figured out the reply button. How cool of me. lol. Thank you, Sabine. Challenging to both write and to read. Silver came to me with her story. Admittedly, I was a bit scared to write it. But then, for me, that's one of the joys of writing. The challenge, the excitement of reaching beyond a comfort zone. Silver was definitely that. I'm thankful to have found a publisher, and a super editor, who allowed me, and encouraged me to remain true to the vision for the story, and this world. Thanks so much, Sabine, for entering "our" dangerous, complex, and naughty world.
