Guest Post with Author Lecia Cornwall and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to the blog, author Lecia Cornwall. Lecia is celebrating her upcoming release of How To Deceive a Duke and has stopped by to chat. Please give Lecia a warm welcome.

Lecia Cornwall lives in Calgary Alberta, in the foothills of the beautiful Canadian Rockies, with two grown children, four cats, a chocolate labe and a husband who puts up with all of the above with remarkable patience. Lecia's debut novel was published by Avon in April 2011. And, she is, of course, busy working on yet another book.

Places to find Lecia:

7 Ways To Deceive A Duke

It’s a terrible way to start a marriage, dear reader, but what choice does Lady Meg Lynton have? Her sister was supposed to be the bride of the notorious Devil Duke of Temberlay, but she’s run away to avoid such a dreadful fate—and just days before the wedding, too.

Meg may have been raised under her father’s strict code of moral behavior for young ladies, but without this marriage, and Temberlay’s money, the Lynton ladies face poverty and scandal. With everything she holds dear teetering on the edge of extinction, Meg is considering a bold step indeed. She’s smart, brave, and resourceful, but such an innocent young lady could certainly use some advice…

1. Take your sister’s place at the altar. Your family needs the money this marriage will bring, and your sister, the actual bride, has fled, and since it’s an arranged match, he’ll never know the difference, will he?

2. Wear a heavy veil to the wedding. Can’t buy one thick enough to hide the fact that you are definitely not your pretty blond sister? Re-purpose an intimate lace garment, perhaps. Shocking, but if the deception is to hold through the vows, the wedding supper, and the bedding, necessity makes this deception essential.

3. Believe everything you read about your duke. They call him Devil, don’t they? And what better nickname for a wicked rogue like Nicholas Hartley? He’s the darling of the scandal sheets, renowned for his exploits in the beds of dozens, perhaps hundreds, of London’s most famous beauties. He’s as terrible as he is tempting…or is he?

4. Ignore the other, better, stories—the ones that say Nicholas Hartley earned his wicked nickname on the battlefield, for daring exploits, honor and bravery. Nicholas? Really?

5. Never admit you’ve always been a little in love with him, wondered how it might feel to kiss the Devil of the scandal sheets, to make love to him, to be his duchess.

6. Don’t share deep, dark family secrets, and pray he never finds out the awful truth that led you to take such daring steps to deceive him—the resulting scandal would make definitely anything Nicholas has done look innocent by comparison.

7. By all means, read everything you can about what to expect on your wedding night. You’ve learned a lot from books, and surely there’s a careful, scientific approach to the business of consummating a marriage, breeding an heir, and keeping your heart, your emotions, and your curiosity out of the serious matter of finding yourself naked in his arms, with his lips on yours, his hands, his…oh my! Try to forget Nicholas’s delicious reputation for undoing a lady’s composure when she needs it most. Ignore the fact that he’s not a man who allows anyone, especially his own wife, to deceive him. He gives his best, and he’ll take nothing less in return—in the drawing room, at war, and most certainly not in bed…

When her sister runs off to avoid an arranged marriage, Meg Lynton takes her place at the altar, since marriage to Nicholas Hartley, the infamous Devil Duke of Temblerlay is the only way to save her family from penury. By the time her wealthy groom discovers he's married the wrong sister, it will be too late to annul their vows. And how difficult can it be to marry a rake and a rogue like Temberlay? All she needs to do is give him an heir and move on with her own life...but deception comes at a higher cost than Meg may be prepared to pay.

When Nicholas Hartley inherits the family title after his brother's untimely death, an arranged marriage to a woman he's never met is the last thing he wants. But when his bride raises her veil at the altar, Nicholas realizes that his wedding night might prove to be a pleasure after all. After a bedding that leaves them both breathless, Nicholas discovers Meg's deception, and decides to teach his scheming bride how to be a proper duchess, kiss by devastating kiss...

    1. Excellent advice, and a lesson poor Meg has to learn. She takes so much time taking care of others, solving their problems. This is a lady who needs to fall in love, hopelessly, head over heels in love!

  12. I would tell her "Don't believe everything you hear." Most of the time people just say what they want and make up lies. Lies are easiter to believe than the truth.
This is a new author for me. I love to read and always looking for new authors to check out.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  13. I agree, Christine! Actually, my favorite saying of all time has to be "If you can't be a good example, serve as a horrible warning!"

  16. Hi, Lecia! I would tell Meg all of the above, plus there is a silver lining in every cloud, never say anything that you know you shouldn't say and can't take back, and treat him like there is no tomorrow since there might not be, and treat him like you think he's the boss even though she knows she is.

  19. Exactly, Olga! Life never seems to work out the way we plan, does it? But sometimes, if you think about it, those little glitches are what we look back and laugh at, and what makes great memories. For my wedding, the hotel promised us an engraved cake knife with our names on it. When we cut the cake, we noticed our knife said "Congratulations Heather and Robert", instead of Lecia and Stephen. Thirty years later, we're still waiting for the replacement knife, and it's a wonderful memory!

  20. I would hope Meg would take on the challenge of an arranged marriage, even though it wasn't hers, with courage. I am sure she is nervous and scared, but at least a brave face can help her appear strong to all, especially when her deception is discovered.

    1. Meg likes to think she can handle anything, but Nicholas is the biggest, best challenge she's ever faced! This was a fun book to write, giving them both doubts, strengths and personal obstacles to overcome!

  21. The advice I'd give Meg is to embrace the marriage for all she's worth, it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun with Nicholas as her groom. :D

    1. As in any good story, the truth comes out, and it isn't until they find honesty and trust that they can have the love they want, too! A good romance has to torture the hero and heroine a little (for us readers) before the happily ever after, all the kinds of things we'd hate in real life...

  27. Meg needs to make sure not to judge a rake by the stories told in the daily papers. The rake may just be more than she can imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  28. First it's thrilling and exciting to read about Nicholas's exploits in the scandal sheets...but not when you're married to the rake in question! And when you have doubts about your own ability to win him, it's torment! It's a good thing love always triumphs!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Stand strong and use all the tools you have "wink wink" and you can wrap that rake around your pinky.

  30. Poor Meg—she's learned so many things from books, which of course, can make a wedding night a trifle awkward, as you can imagine. While some of us, ahem, probably learned a lot, ahem, from reading our parents' copy of the Joy Of Sex, Meg doesn't have that kind of simple straightforward manual to rely on, and the book she does get her hands on just makes everything, well, a little more complicated!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd tell her to give as good as you get!

    ReplyDelete
  32. it looks like a very interesting book. since i'm dry on advices, i'll wish her good luck instead :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. When her husband finds out, explain to him why she deceived him. And never let anyone bully her, or try to break her down.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Remember why you did it. Try to make the best of the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Never go to bed angry with one another. A sexy sheer negligee does wonders to convince him over to your point of view!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats on the new release. This book sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it. I'd tell her to think before she speaks. Sometimes what we say and how we say it can get us into lots of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'd tell Meg to be kind and don't let anyone push you around!
