As a child, Lara Adrian used to sleep with the covers up around her neck, afraid she might become the midnight prey of deadly vampires. Later on, under the influence of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice, she had to wonder if her fear wasn't actually something else: a secret desire to walk in a darker world, to live a dangerous and sensual dream with a man of seductive, preternatural power. It is that twining of fear and desire that fuels Lara's own fantasies today, and the idea that she explores in her New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series of vampire romance novels from Bantam Dell Books.
With an ancestry stretching back to the Mayflower and the court of King Henry VIII, Lara Adrian lives with her husband in coastal New England, surrounded by centuries-old graveyards, hip urban comforts, and the endless inspiration of the broody Atlantic Ocean.

A la Twitter style, please describe your book in 140 characters or less.
Vampires & man on brink of war. Kickass female warrior seeks revenge for Breed lover’s death. Vow put to test when mysterious rebel leader reveals truth that cuts deeper than a blade.
(I went slightly over the 140 character count – what can I say? I’m a novelist. I always write long! *g*)
What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?
Anything with intense conflict or tension. Any time I have a scene with heightened emotion or drama, the momentum of that elevated tension and energy propels the words onto the page almost faster than I can type them.
If you could have dinner with any three authors (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?
- Dan Brown, because I’ve met him and spoken to him before, and it’s not only fascinating to hear about the insider research that goes into his books, but he’s also a genuinely nice, down to earth guy.
- Stephen King, because I think he’d be endlessly entertaining at a dinner party, and because I’d love to tell him how much his storytelling and imagination have inspired me as both a reader and an author.
- William Bradford (of Mayflower fame, and the author of the pilgrim journal Of Plimoth Plantation), because I’m a direct line descendant of his on my father’s side, and because I think it would be really interesting to hear about what life was like for the pilgrims making the journey and then settling in early Colonial Massachusetts. I’d also pry into the truth about what really happened to his first wife, who drowned in Plymouth Bay the first winter they’d arrived. Was it truly an accidental slip off the Mayflower, or was it suicide, or something darker still?
What are you favorite types of stories to read?
Dark, suspenseful stories with lots of drama and emotional impact. If there are twists and turns along the way, so much the better!
Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m always working on something! Right now, I’m writing Crave The Night, Book 12 of the Midnight Breed series. This is Nathan’s story, which follows Mira and Kellan’s story, Edge of Dawn. I’m also chipping away at the Midnight Breed Insider’s Guide, which will include Gideon and Savannah’s story in novella form—a story readers have been asking me to write since the series first began. My current plan it to publish the Insider’s Guide independently in both ebook and in print formats, sometime later this year. After that, I’ll be working on more Midnight Breed novels and possibly some all-new things as well.
If you actively read my books, please tell me when you started with the Midnight Breed series and how you first discovered them. Was it an in-store display, or online? Did a friend tell you about them, or did you hear about them in some other way? If you haven’t yet read my books, please tell me who your favorite paranormal romance author is and how you first discovered her books.
Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn-when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them-the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.
Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior's code of swift-and even lethal-justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order's hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.
Kellan didn't think he would ever see Mira again-or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides-between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

I haven't read your books. I like both of Laurell K. Hamilton's series.
ReplyDeleteI have not read any of your books yet but will be adding them to my to be read pile for sure. I started the paranormal world I guess with vampire diaries and then moved onto Charlaine Harris and the sookie stackhouse series and am currently in love with the sons of navaus series by Gabrielle Bissett.
ReplyDeleteI discovered your books when I first got my kindle, years ago. I wasn't sure what books to buy, and I think Lucan's book was one of the Recommended for You books. Since then, I've read all of them!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this series but my BFF has them and is going to lend them to me :) I found one of my ultimate fav authors... Patricia Briggs... while browsing through Borders (RIP). Shiney endcap book :) Now... it's pretty much strictly Amazon browsing.
ReplyDeleteI have never read your books before. My favorite paranormal series would be Laurell K Hamilton and Charlaine Harris. Found them both through library new releases. I also rely on suggestions from my mother and sisters.

Haven't read your books before, although I own a few (just not the first one)! My favorite series would have to be The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. I found it while searching for a Charlaine Harris book at the library and came across it - it surpassed my expectations and I like it better than Charlaine Harris! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
Lora Leigh is my favorite paranormal author. My first book was Coyote's Mate and I fell in love with the series then. Then I was on a mission to read all of them so I ended up going to eBay to find the first ones. That was before I got my ereader.
ReplyDeleteLara, I've not read any of your books before but I need to change that. They look really good.
I love this series. I discovered it whe Amazon had Lucan's story for a free download a few years ago. I was hooked and have read every one since. I can't get enough
ReplyDeleteI do have some of your books but have not read them, yet (humongous TBR pile). I picked them up at different times when I came across them - the first couple because they looked interesting and the rest because I had the others and had seen lots of great reviews. Jeaniene Frost is my favorite paranormal author, and I think I found the first book on Amazon and liked the sample I read.
ReplyDeleteI have started this series and am really loving it .I first started reading your books .I dont have one favorite author I have a group of favorites lol Jennifer Ashley,Kresley Cole, Sherrilyn Kenyon, JR Ward,Lynsay Sands, you of course and Gena Showalter.

ReplyDeleteHi, I discovered your books through a dear friend of mine. She owned a new and used bookstore and I went in one day and she recommended the first book in your series and from there I was hooked :)

I haven't read your books, but that is only because I just now came across them on this blog. They sound really, really good! I have a few paranormal author favorites -- Denise Grover Swank, author of The Chosen Series; Victoria Danann, author of The Order of the Black Swan series; BC Burgess, author of The Mystic Series. How I discovered them was I signed up for a daily email with Kindle deals. Their first books were free, they sounded good so I downloaded them, read them and was hooked. Other authors I have been introduced to and instantly become a fan of have been through blogs or Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the series yet. Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI have read them all. Deeper Than Midnight is what got me started, I picked it up for a review.
ReplyDeleteI have not read one of your books yet and I am looking forward to reading them. I have not read many PNR books but at the moment my favorite paranormal author is Alexandra Ivy and her Guardians of Eternity Series. I was directed to her by a blog I read.
ReplyDeleteI found your books when I was looking for something PNR, with good action and romance. Many people recommended I give you a try, which I did and have loved the Midnight Breed for a couple of years now. Read the series back to back until I was caught up then gobbled up each new release as it came out!
