ARC Review: Racer by Katy Evans

I was so excited when I found out that Katy Evans was writing a story for Racer, the son of Remy and Brooke from her Real series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I think for full enjoyment it would be best if you have at least read the first few books in the Real series about Remy and Brooke even though it isn't necessary. It was so much fun to see a few glimpses of them here (along with the rest of the gang), but also to get to see Racer all grown up and getting his own book.

In order to fulfill her dad's dreams, Alana sets out to find the best possible driver she can come up with for her family's Formula 1 team. When she comes across Racer, she is immediately drawn to him though she knows that street racing is different than Formula 1. She knows that he is her family's best chance, even if she also knows that staying away from him is going to be difficult. Especially when Racer will stop at nothing to prove how good he is both on and off the track. But while Racer wants her, he also knows that he could be the one to destroy her as well.

I loved these two. Racer was so like his dad, yet completely his own person. I loved that he wasn't afraid to go his own path and pursue his own dreams and passions. Racer was sexy and confident (a lot of the time cocky!) and it was impossible not to fall for him. He definitely inherited his dad's alpha personality as well as his diagnosis, and while I hated that he struggled with being bi-polar he had a great support system. I really loved how great Lana was once she found out. She never gave up on him and did her best to show him that he wasn't going to scare her away and that she could handle it. She was strong and likable, and perfect for him. These two had chemistry right away and I just enjoyed seeing them get to know one another after their instant connection.

Overall, this one was really good and I liked the characters a lot. There were a few cheesy moments here if I am honest, but they didn't stop me from loving it. As a fan of the Real series, I also appreciated some of the sweet and similar moments that paralleled Brooke and Remy here, it felt as though Katy Evans definitely brought everything full circle! Music was an important step in the bonding of Remy and Brooke, so it was really sweet to see Alana and Racer bonding over music in such a similar way. Definitely brought back all the feelings of when I first read Real. I think fans of the Real series are going to love this one, and those that are new to the series will as well. After meeting Alana's brothers here, I really hope Katy Evans might write some books for them as well. I loved being in the Real world again, yet getting to experience something new and different. This is one I enjoyed a lot and would recommend, especially for Katy Evans fans.

ARC Review: Commander in Chief by Katy Evans

Commander in Chief is the second book in the White House series by Katy Evans. This book is not a standalone and should only be read if you have previously read Mr. President. I absolutely loved these two when I first read Mr. President and I have been anxiously waiting to get more of them. Katy Evans gave these two a great story and I loved them more than ever here in Commander in Chief.

Matt and Charlotte fell in love while campaigning for the presidency. But they both knew what would happen if he won. Having grown up as the son of a president, Matt swore he would never put a woman through what his mom went through. Charlotte never imagined herself in the role of first lady, yet she couldn't stop herself from loving Matt. But now that he is being sworn into office to officially become President, he is determined to have it all, including Charlotte by his side in the white house. Can he convince Charlotte that they belong together and can make it through anything as long as they are together?

I really loved these two, and that love only grew here. Charlotte was mature and kind, always caring for others and putting them first. She was selfless, and even when she was sad or felt as though things weren't as she would have liked, she turned it around and did something positive. It felt so real and genuine, and I just loved her character and thought that she was perfect for Matt. Matt was sexy and strong, a true leader and a great man. It was easy to see why he would be so loved by everyone as he was what we all hope for in a person with such power. He was always determined to do the best for his country and treated them all as though they were his family, all the while making sure that Charlotte and his family were a priority as well. These two were still as sexy as ever, but I did enjoy seeing them settle into a relationship and how sweet they could be when they weren't worried about so many outside forces and could really focus on each other.

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing how things turned out for these two and I loved were they ended up. Katy Evans did a great job of giving them what they deserved and making feel invested the whole way through. I will say that while I enjoyed this one a lot, it was different from what I was expecting. Things were very sweet here, and at times I was wishing for a bit more. There was a lot of focus on the day to day details of clothes, galas, etc and I would have liked to have maybe seen a bit more of the important things. There was a lot of time glossed over here with the mention of days, or months passing and I felt at times like we were missing things to some extent. I would have liked to have had more going on in the story as this one just felt too perfect at times if that makes sense. There were a few things that happened that weren't, but for the most part it was smooth sailing and I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never really did. It was still a great book and conclusion to Matt and Charlotte's story, just different than what I thought it would be. I am excited that Katy has said there will be a third book in this world, featuring new characters. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us and I am looking forward to hopefully getting a bit more of these characters as well.

ARC Review: Womanizer by Katy Evans

I am a big fan of Katy Evans, and I have enjoyed the Manwhore series since the very start. If you haven't read the previous books in the series, don't worry about starting with Womanizer. This book is a standalone story though it is the fourth novel (5th book) in the series. Womanizer features Callan and Tahoe's sister Livvy.

Olivia was determined to have the career she dreamed of, and while having her brother help land her the internship she needed wasn't ideal she figured that once she was in she would make it on her own. But neither Olivia, nor Callan expected to feel the connection and attraction they felt to one another. Callan was the last person Livvy should be involved with, a womanizer who didn't settle down. Soon they realize that what they are feeling though is beyond what they ever imagined and both are left to figure out if there is a chance at something together.

I will admit that I struggled a bit with Livvy at first, but I ended up really loving these two together. I am a huge fan of brother's best friend stories, so this one was right up my alley. But it ended up being a really great story, and a lot of that was because of Callan. He was sexy and I had been hoping for his story after seeing him in the previous books, so it was really great to get to know him better. Callan and Livvy were perfect for one another and I loved their chemistry! Livvy might have taken a bit for me to warm up to, but she was determined and I ended up really liking her.

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and a really great standalone as well. While I do recommend reading this series in order if possible, Womanizer is definitely worth the read even if you haven't read any of this series before. Katy Evans is one of those authors that draws you in right away with her stories, and I didn't want to put Womanizer down! This book was everything that I have come to enjoy when reading something from Katy Evans, and I really hope that she continues to tell stories in this world. There were a few characters here that I would love to get to know even better! I recommend Womanizer, especially for fans of the Manwhore series, but this was just a really great story that I think romance readers will enjoy.

ARC Review: Mr. President by Katy Evans

I should have known better than to start this book before bed, because the next thing I knew it was the next day and I had completely devoured Mr. President. Katy Evans has a way of sucking you right in, and I couldn't put this one down. Matt Hamilton was so sexy and I just couldn't get enough of him and Charlotte!

Charlotte Wells met Matt Hamilton as a child, with her the daughter of a senator and him being the son of the president. Though he said he would never run for president, she wrote him a letter letting him know that if he ever did, she would be there to help him with his campaign. Three presidential terms later, Charlotte receives and invitation to join Matt's campaign. She joins his team and Charlotte is excited about the future and what Matt brings for the country she loves. She is determined to do whatever it takes to get Matt the presidency, but the more they are together the more they find themselves wanting something they both know is impossible for them to have.

I loved these two together. They had great chemistry and a connection that felt so genuine and natural. Charlotte was strong and smart, and I loved her passion and determination. She was a breath of fresh air for Matt and his campaign, and I really liked how she always put him first, even when it broke her heart. Matt was sexy and good, and I loved that he was loyal to his family's legacy, yet also determined to forge his own path. He was independent and determined to do the right thing rather than rely on taking the easy road. These two were so sexy together and you could feel the tension and steam between them. I never wanted it to end.

I will say that I should have known that this wouldn't be a standalone, yet it surprised me as I approached the ending and knew there was no way that Katy Evans could wrap up Matt and Charlotte's story in the few pages that were left. While I am so excited to get more of these characters that I loved here, I have little patience and I want them now! Luckily the next book in the White House series is set to release early next year, so we aren't left hanging for too long. Even though I hate the waiting, this book was so worth the read and I am glad that I read this one now. This is one of my favorites that I have read from Katy Evans, and I think fans of hers are going to love this one every bit as much as I did. Katy Evans is one of those authors that I just have to read regardless of what the story is, and this one definitely did not disappoint! I highly recommend this book, and I will be anxiously awaiting Commander in Chief!

ARC Review: Ladies Man by Katy Evans

I am so torn after finishing this book that I don't even really know exactly what to think. I was so excited to get Tahoe and Gina's story from Katy Evans after reading the first couple of Manwhore series books. I loved them and the chemistry between them promised some serious sparks. I have to say though that this is not entirely what I had been hoping for when it came to their story. There were some moments where I genuinely loved them and what was happening between them. But there were also a lot of things here that didn't work for me and left me feeling disappointed.

Tahoe and Gina met when their best friends Rachel and Saint met and fell in love. Tahoe is a cocky manwhore who loves having a good time, but doesn't do more than a night with anyone. He is used to getting any woman he wants and having as many as he wants. But Gina is different, and he knows that she deserves better than someone like him no matter how much he wishes that was different. Gina is looking for someone who will stay by her side and treat her like she deserves, and as much as she wishes that was Tahoe, she knows that it isn't. So Gina and Tahoe decide to be friends, though the closer they become the more that line begins to blur. But with Gina finding someone and trying to make it work, and Tahoe convinced that he isn't good enough for Gina, they both find themselves back wondering what would happen if they acted on the connection between them.

I really struggled throughout this book with both Tahoe and Gina. Gina came off as extremely insecure, whiny and weak at times and it was so hard to relate to her for me. Yes she had been hurt in the past, but I didn't really feel as though that explained her actions throughout this story. She frustrated me with her behavior and I just didn't feel 100% invested in her character and the outcome. Tahoe was cocky and sexy, and had some surprisingly sweet moments and in those I really loved him. But he was such a player and I really hated the fact that he was with so many different women throughout this entire book even knowing that he felt more for Gina. I kept waiting for that moment where he would wake up and stop screwing around, but it was so late in coming that I just found myself giving up on him. These two clearly had a connection and chemistry and they were great together, yet the fact that they were with others for about 80% of this book just killed any chance I had of being fully satisfied with any relationship between them.

Overall, I think that there was so much potential for these two that just never was realized. They were so much fun together and had a lot of steam, yet I wasn't able to get over the constant parade of women Tahoe went through or the fact that Gina was trying to force a relationship with someone else. There was a scene towards the end that really solidified all that when Gina asked Tahoe not to sleep with someone else and he told her he was going to anyways. Not only did it make me angry, but it just ruined any chance I had at really believing that anything between these two could work out long term. The feelings between them clearly weren't an issue here, but it was the fact that they both acknowledged what was happening and yet Tahoe still went ahead with sleeping with another girl after Gina asked him not to. Between the character issues and the OM/OW drama here, this was just really disappointing and didn't live up to how I had hoped this story would play out. As much as I have loved books by Katy Evans, I have to say that this was not my favorite of hers and it made me sad to see these two vibrant and strong characters reduced to what they were here. I know I will read more from Katy Evans in the future, and I definitely look forward to the next in this series. Unfortunately though Ladies Man just didn't fully work for me.

ARC Review: Legend by Katy Evans

Legend is the sixth and final book in the Real series by Katy Evans. This book is a standalone story, so you do not need to have read the previous books in the series, though for full enjoyment I would recommend it. This was such a bittersweet read for me because while I was really enjoying it, I was also dreading it since I knew once it was over the series was over. It was a great finish though, and I really loved Maverick and Reese.

Maverick "The Avenger" Cage is determined to become a Legend in the Underground, but no one will give him the shot he needs. Guarding the secret of who he really is, Maverick comes across Reese, and she treats him like no one else ever has. As Mav trains, Reese helps him find someone willing to be his coach and Mav is that much closer to taking on the champ Remington "Riptide" Tate. But just as things between Mav and Reese are heating up, Mav finds out that Reese is also Remy's wife Brooke's cousin. But Mav is determined to win and be a legend and that includes getting his girl too.

I really loved Maverick and Reese together. They had sparks between the right from the start, but I was glad that things weren't rushed between them. They had a lot of sexual tension and their connection just continued to intensify as they spent more time together. I loved that Reese didn't judge Mav for his past or circumstances and that Mav didn't push Reese or give up on her. Each one had a lot that they were dealing with, and yet they were perfect together and for one another. They really helped one another just by being there for each other. The chemistry between these two was so strong, but I really loved the bond they had formed and seeing as things grew between them.

The one thing that I will say here though is that I felt like some things weren't as resolved as I would have liked. There was a situation with a guy that Reese had thought she wanted before she met Maverick and he was brought up a lot throughout this story. When he finally made his appearance, it was almost over before it started and it just felt like it had been used for drama throughout the story without ever really being dealt with. Maverick pretty much shut it down before Reese did anything, and Miles just disappeared. I also felt like with this being the last story in the series that an extended epilogue would have been nice. I wanted to see how things ended for everyone, and would have liked to have been given a glimpse into all of the HEAs from this series since there were some things that were unresolved overall. I wanted to know more about what happened for Kenna and Pandora, and I am still upset that we didn't get a book for Riley! I have to admit I have been holding out hope since the beginning that we would get his story, so it would have been nice to see what happened for him, especially since Remy was retiring here. I just felt like there was so much that I still had questions about.

But even with those criticisms, I really enjoyed this story a lot. It was great to get to know Reese and Maverick, and I loved how much Brooke and Remy were around for this book. Racer absolutely stole the show, and I don't think that there has ever been a cuter kid in a book I have read than him! He was so adorable and I couldn't get enough of him. I hope Katy Evans might someday write his story, because I am absolutely dying to see him again! Fans of this series will enjoy Legend, and if you are new to this series this one is easy to read without having read any of the previous books. I know I will read this series again in the future as I really love the characters and I am just not ready to let them go. But I am also really excited to see what else Katy has in store for readers in the future and look forward to reading more from her.

ARC Review: Ms. Manwhore by Katy Evans

Ms. Manwhore is the short and sexy conclusion to the Manwhore series from Katy Evans. This novella picks up after the first two books in the series and needs to be read in order. Saint and Rachel are finally together and things between them couldn't be better. So when Saint pops the question Rachel immediately says yes. But can one woman be enough for Saint forever? Or will he forever be a manwhore?

This novella was really sweet and I have loved Saint and Rachel from the beginning. I enjoyed seeing them begin the next chapter of their life and seeing them as they planned their wedding. These two are absolutely perfect for one another, and that was never more clear than here. They continued to have the explosive chemistry that they have had from the beginning, but they also have a tenderness to them as well. These two were so great together, and the love between them is so special.

I will say that this one was a bit choppy feeling to me though, and it didn't have the same feel as the other books in the series. For some reason it just seemed to be disjointed and didn't flow as well as Katy's books usually do. It almost felt like cut scenes from a movie rather than a well flowing story. I did like that we got this ending for them and that we were able to see how far they have come. But I felt like this one could have been pieced together better than it was, and unfortunately I didn't think that it was what I was expecting here. I found myself wishing that this had been more of a story rather than what felt like a few scenes spliced together with glimpses of some of my favorite characters. I love Katy Evans and her books though, and I know I will read more from her in the future.

ARC Review: Manwhore +1 by Katy Evans

Manwhore +1 is the continuation of Malcolm Saint and Rachel Livingston's story by Katy Evans. This book picks up right where we left off with Manwhore after the cliffhanger, and it should not be read unless you have already read Manwhore. This is not a book that you can read by itself. When I had first started Manwhore, I had no idea that it would end with a cliffhanger, so I have been dying to get my hands on this book! I needed more of Malcolm, and I needed to know what would happen!

Malcolm Saint was an assignment for Rachel Livingston. It was her job to get answers from him, and to find out as much about him as possible. The more she revealed of him though, the more she revealed of herself. Rachel found herself falling for the one man that all of Chicago wanted but was unable to get for longer than a few nights. But when everything went bad between them, Malcolm's trust in Rachel was shattered. Now after weeks of not speaking, they are finally in contact again and Rachel is surprised to find that Malcolm wants something from her. But what Malcolm is asking for is the last thing that she expected. But Rachel wants more than Malcolm seems to be willing to give, and she is determined to prove to him that he can trust her with his heart. But can Malcolm more past what happened and let her in again?

I really loved Malcolm in this book. He was obviously wary of Rachel and her feelings for him, and yet you could tell that he still cared for her. Things had gone badly for them before, but their feelings had never been the issue. Both Rachel and Malcolm were falling for each other for the first time, and they had no idea what it really meant to be in love with someone else. I liked seeing them work on rebuilding the trust and hot they were able to move forward after everything that had happened. There were times that Rachel drove me a bit nuts, even though I understood where she was coming from. She wanted answers and promises, and yet she wasn't thinking about why it was taking Malcolm time to give that to her. He needed to see that she was there for good and that he was it for her, before he could give himself to her again. But I loved seeing him open himself back up, and there were so many times that he won me over here. I just couldn't get enough of him!

Overall, this was a good addition to the series and I was glad that Malcolm and Rachel were able to deal with everything that had happened in the first book. I love these two together and I never stopped rooting for them to work things out. These two are such a perfect fit together, and I really can't imagine anyone else being it for either of them. They were a lot of fun to see and were super sexy together as well. This book was really well written as all of Katy's stories are, and I can't wait to read the next in this series. Katy Evans is a great writer, and this series is definitely one of my favorites.

ARC Review: Manwhore by Katy Evans

Manwhore is the first book in the new Manwhore series by Katy Evans. This book does end with a cliffhanger, so keep that in mind before starting this book. I have to admit that while I was excited that Katy Evans had a new series coming out, I was also a bit worried as well. While I liked the Real series I had some issues with a few of the books, especially Mine and Remy. There is a fine line between wanting more of the characters, and dragging things out beyond what is necessary. So when I found out this wasn't a standalone, I was a bit worried that I would feel the same way. I did like Manwhore though, and I will see how things go in the next book while hoping for the best.

When Rachel gets the chance of a lifetime to write an expose on Chicago's hottest rich playboy, she immediately accepts. Malcolm Saint is known for being mysterious and playing every bit as hard as he works. Rachel is to go undercover and find out about the real him that no one else has ever been able to figure out. Why does he do the things he does, and what is with his penchant for the number four? So when Rachel and Saint start to get to know one another, she quickly finds out that there is more to him than she ever could have guessed. The more she learns about Saint, the more she starts to learn about herself. Soon she is finding it hard to keep things professional with him. Rachel begins to wonder if she had to make the choice between her story or the man which one she would choose?

I liked Saint and Rachel. These two were both complicated and had so many layers to them. Saint was used to always getting what he wanted without having to do much to get it. Rachel didn't give in right away and part of her worried that it was just the challenge that kept him interested. But I really saw Saint struggling with how to handle things with her. He treated her differently, and I liked who he was with her. He was hard working, smart, and super sexy. Rachel had her own reasons for doing what she was, but I did feel like she had to know ahead of time how things would play out. She started to get attached to Saint, and I really wish that she would have been more honest with him. I didn't understand why she couldn't tell him what was going on, especially when things started to get serious between them. They had chemistry right away the first time they met, but as they got to know one another it grew into genuine feelings for one another. I wish that they had been able to talk to one another about what was going on, and I felt like a lot of that was Rachel's fault. I found myself growing frustrated with her in the second half of the book. She would often times wax poetic about Saint and it got a bit old, especially considering the fact that she couldn't even be honest with him about what she was doing.

Overall, it was a good start to this series but I am worried about it dragging a bit. I am not sure where things go from here, especially after that cliffhanger. I did think that this book started off a bit slow, but as it continued I got totally sucked in and couldn't put it down. Though I was frustrated with Rachel, I really liked what was developing between her and Saint. I liked the fact that things built slowly between them, and they didn't just jump right into anything. The tension and chemistry between them was fantastic, and I liked seeing them start to realize their feelings for one another. I do wish that we had been given Malcolm's POV though. I think that this story would have greatly benefited by seeing his thoughts and feelings, and I really think that would have changed the story completely. I wanted to see what he was experiencing, rather than just what Rachel was going through. I will also say that Rachel's roommate and friend Gina drove me a bit crazy, and I think she ended up doing more harm than good when it came to how Rachel was feeling and handling things with Saint. I wanted to smack her and tell her that just because she had gone through some pain and a bad relationship didn't mean that everyone would experience the same, regardless of reputation. I am curious to see what happens next though, and I really do like Saint and Rachel together. I am hopeful that the next book in the series will get these two where they need to be and I am curious to see what else Katy Evans has in store for these characters. July 2015 can't get here soon enough, and I will be waiting for more of Saint!

Audiobook Review: Ripped by Katy Evans, Narrated by Sebastian York and Elizabeth Louise

I have to say that this series has been pretty hit or miss for me. While I loved Real and Rogue, I thought that Remy and Mine were just okay. So when I first heard about Ripped, I didn't know what to think. I really didn't care for what little I had seen of Pandora so far in this series, and I honestly didn't expect to really change my mind about her. But I love a good second chance romance and I am a sucker for sexy rockstars so I wanted to see what this one was all about. All that being said, I ended up loving Ripped! While I loved the story itself, what really brought it to life was the audiobook. Katy Evans has written a great story for Pandora and Mackenna, but narrators Sebastian York and Elizabeth Louise were able to give the reader/listener a unique experience by perfectly capturing the raw emotions between these two characters.

Pandora is the goth tough chick friend of Brooke and Melanie. She got her heart broken years before, and ever since she has focused on her niece and her friends. But when she hears that her ex-boyfriend's band will be performing in her hometown, she decides that it is time for her to punish him for the hurt he caused her. Things don't turn out as planned though, and she is forced to agree to his conditions if she is going to escape him pressing charges against her. As the two set out on the rest of his tour, they must both learn to deal with close contact after many years apart. Soon they are rediscovering each other and the passion they once shared. But they both have secrets that destroyed them once before, and when the truth finally comes out it could destroy them again.

I really loved Mackenna and Pandora. I really wasn't crazy about Pandora before as I said already, but I knew that beneath her tough exterior there had to be more to her story. She was tough as a way to cope with everything that she had been through and the more that was revealed, the more I understood and connected with her. I thought that Elizabeth Louise really showed each side to her character through her voice, and she really made Pandora seem real. The emotions that Pandora was experiencing came through perfectly and I thought that Elizabeth Louise really did the character justice. Kenna was a cocky rockstar that was used to getting his way in everything, and it was clear that a lot had changed for him over the years. But as we got to see underneath the facade he projected, it was also clear that he had been through a lot as well. He had never forgotten about Pandora, and he still loved her despite everything that had happened. He had made some bad choices and he also had a bit of an issue with over-sharing at times, but I did think that deep down he was doing what he thought he needed to do or was best. I might not have always liked what came out of his mouth, but I did appreciate his honesty. Sebastian York has one of the sexiest voices that I have ever heard from a male narrator, and I thought that his voice was perfect for Kenna. It was filled with the sex appeal that a rockstar should have, and he really added so much depth to the character.

Overall, I went into this story skeptical and ended with it possibly being my favorite of the series. There are several things that I think will drive some readers nuts, and I do think that this book will be one that some cannot connect with. But for me, I thought that Mackenna and Pandora were perfect for one another and it showed through all their interactions, even when they were trying to get back at one another or were being jerks. Pandora and Mackenna really clicked for me because of their fantastic chemistry, their complicated history, and how sweet and sexy they could be with one another. I will say that the end of this story doesn't have a huge cliffhanger, but it does end with things a bit unresolved. I am so anxious to get more, and I really hope that Katy Evans will let us know how things proceed from here for these two and what all was revealed at the end of this book. I loved getting to see familiar faces, but Mackenna and Pandora really grew on me over the course of this book and I will not forget them anytime soon. If you are a fan of this series, I highly recommend this book and if you haven't read any in this series yet I think that Katy Evans is worth the read. I also look forward to more from Elizabeth Louise and Sebastian York in the future. While I have loved everything I have listened to by Sebastian York so far and actively seek out stories that he narrates, Elizabeth Louise really surprised me and I will definitely be on the lookout for more from her as well.
