RFTC Hall Pass Event with Kimberly Kincaid

Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance that splits the difference between sexy and sweet. Kimberly is a 2015 RWA RITA® finalist who lives (and writes!) by the mantra that food is love. Her digital Line series is all about the hot cops and sexy chefs of Brentsville, New York. ARC Review: Stirring Up Trouble by Kimberly Kincaid

Stirring Up Trouble is the third book in the Pine Mountain series by Kimberly Kincaid. These books can be read as standalones though with no problem understanding anything. I thought that this book was cute and enjoyable, and I liked the characters. Kimberly Kincaid is a great writer and I really enjoyed her style.

When Sloane Russo's editor tells her that her newest story isn't what they are looking for, she suggests that Sloane write a book featuring a Greek hero. Wanting to head to Greece in order to do research, Sloane starts looking for ways to make money so she can pay for the trip. When her friend's employee needs help caring for his 13 year old sister, Sloane reluctantly agrees to temporarily babysit and tutor her to make some money. The attraction between Gavin and Sloane is instant, but they get off on the wrong foot. Even though they see things differently, the chemistry between them is strong and they find it hard to fight. Can these two opposites find love together, or will they be too different for a chance at a relationship?

I liked both Sloane and Gavin, and I really loved that they were so different from one another. They were complete opposites with Sloane being more open and adventurous and Gavin being more collected and a little uptight. Gavin was pretty strict and tended to be stuck in his ways, so it was great seeing him loosen up a bit with Sloane. I thought that these two were really good for one another because of their differences, and I think that they really were able to bring out sides of each other that they didn't know they had before. Sloane was fun and I liked that she had done so many different things and traveled. She was different that most heroines I have read, and I found her refreshing. But I really liked her approach with Gavin's sister Bree, and I thought that it was great how she didn't treat her as though she was dumb or a child. Gavin and Sloane had a lot of chemistry, and I really enjoyed seeing them skirt around their attraction before finally giving in.

Overall, this was a cute contemporary read. There wasn't a lot new here as far as story went and it was predictable. But I still enjoyed it and thought that it was a really good story. It had some slow moments, and that was the main reason for a four star rating instead of five. But if you are looking for a well written and enjoyable contemporary read, I would recommend giving this one a chance. I look forward to reading more from Kimberly Kincaid in the future.

Feature and Giveaway: Stirring Up Trouble by Kimberly Kincaid

Sloane Russo's turned a decade of crazy jobs and whimsical travel into a career writing steamy novels set in exotic places. Trouble is, Sloane's flat broke now--and she can't channel sun-drenched beaches in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The only fast cash in town comes with some seriously distracting temptation: Gavin Carmichael, hot, handsome and oh-so-hard-headed.

Gavin isn't the impulsive Don Juan of Sloane's novels. He's raising his thirteen-year-old half-sister, and he's pretty sure he's supposed to act like he's never heard of fun. Sloane is way too sexy and irresponsible to be his idea of a good tutor for Bree, but the unpredictable anti-nanny may be irresistible as well. . .

ARC Review: Gimme Some Sugar by Kimberly Kincaid

Carly di Matisse, chef and soon to be divorcee, has fled New York. Pine Mountain’s La Dolce Vita restaurant has provided her with a soft landing. She and her friend, Sloane Russo, are renting a cottage. When a storm damages the back deck, Jackson Carter is hired to fix it. The mutual viewing through the sliding glass door sets Jackson and Carly up for a scorching kiss. Both decide to slow down and get to know each other. Jackson takes Carly to his mother’s house for the Fourth of July. The party is also to recognize his brother’s recent engagement. She falls in love with his mother’s extensive vegetable gardens. She has an idea to create one by the restaurant. She meets his ‘pretend’ girlfriend and he learns she’s still sort of married. Their misunderstanding grows and demands both make full apologies and disclosure. Both step out of their comfort zones and talk about their lives. His mom wants him to settle down so he asked a friend to be his girlfriend for the party. Her husband tries to drag out the divorce. They were a cooking team and hosted a local cable cooking show. He’s nothing without her and needs her back to save his career. Carly gets an offer to return to New York as a master chef. Is this her dream job or does she already have it?

Jackson has a cowboy vibe, a man of few words and many talents. He comes to Carly’s aid before she asks. He’s dependable and reliable, even when he’s out of his element. Carly is trying to pick up the shreds of her life and put them back together. Betrayed personally and professionally by her ex-husband, she’s vulnerable. She’s determined to be successful and dig down deep to find her passion for food and Jackson. They make an excellent couple.

The relationships Carly and Jackson have with their mothers are realistic. Carly’s mom sees divorce as a sin. She wants her to reconcile with her husband. Marriage for life is how it works. After an illness, she softens her stance with Carly. Plus she admits Carly’s husband is a jerk. I’ve heard many conversations over the years where moms get mixed up in their children’s marital problems. A no win for all sides. Jackson’s father was abusive. He’s afraid he’ll be the same way. He keeps Carly at arm’s length to keep her safe. His mom sets him straight. Jackson is nothing like his father and would be missing a life time of happiness if he believes otherwise. She’s the only one who can discuss and explain the past.

My Favorite Book Couple with Kimberly Kincaid

Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance novels that split the difference between sexy and sweet, taking the traditional idea of boy-meets-girl and infusing it with a sassy magic all her own. She believes in fiery yet flawed characters destined for a crash-course in falling in love-- usually the hard way-- and injects her trademark humor as well as poignant touches into her writing to create her stories.

Kimberly's writing journey has led down some bumpy roads (that first manuscript is under the bed, where it is very likely to stay), but there has been some fresh pavement too (her second manuscript earned her very first contest final, and landed the fantastic Maureen Walters at the Curtis Brown Literary Agency). One thing is certain -- the wild ride of being a writer is a lot richer in both its ups and downs because of friends and readers along the path.

When Kimberly's not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as "The Pleather Bomber", she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to eclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. She resides in northern Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters.

"It's not you."

There are only so many times a girl can hear those words before she believes that it is, in fact, very much her. Unexpectedly jilted by her locally famous boyfriend and haunted by a boss who makes Attila the Hun look like a lap dog, Bellamy Blake does what any self-respecting girl in her shoes would do. She rounds up her two best girlfriends and makes plans to get the hell out of Dodge.

But Bellamy's escape plan takes a nose dive on the side of rural route 164 when her transmission self-destructs, leaving her in the middle of a cell phone dead zone with nothing but her wits. Oh, and Shane Griffin, the hottest mechanic who's ever checked under her hood.

Yet this small-town man isn't all he seems. Can Shane and Bellamy prove that sometimes the most unlikely ingredients make the most deliciously sexy mix?

ARC Review: Pushing the Line by Kimberly Kincaid

Pushing the Line is the forth novella in the Line series by Kimberly Kincaid. This sexy short story is about Blake's cousin Aaron who we first met in Outside the Lines. This novella can be read as a stand alone but does have interconnected characters from the previous stories. This is the second story in this series that I have read, and I have really liked both of them. They are short, sweet, and written really well. These novellas are the perfect way to spend a few hours and are really enjoyable to read. Kimberly Kincaid is definitely an author that I will be keeping an eye on in the future.

After Harper's grandma dies she heads to Brentsville in order to settle her affairs. Harper quickly finds out that her grandma left her the business that she treasured for so many years, her candy shop called Luscious. Even though Harper used to help her run the business in the summers away from school, Harper is an artist that spends her life traveling and never staying in one place for very long. She makes plans to sell the business and her grandma's house. But while she is in the candy shop going through things, the old and faulty wiring cause a fire. Though Harper does her best to put it out, she ends up having to call the fire department. When they arrive she meets Aaron, and they get off on the wrong foot when Harper refuses to leave the burning building before finding her grandma's beloved candy molds. After the fire is out, Harper begins the process of trying to find someone to help her repair the building so that she can list it. When the contractor shows up, it is none other than the sexy firefighter Aaron. As they work together to repair the damage, they begin to get to know each other and stop fighting their attraction to one another. But can they possibly have a future together when Harper is determined to stick with her plan of selling Luscious and leaving town?

I really liked Aaron. He's a sexy firefighter who is good with his hands. He is laid back and does what he wants regardless of what others think that he should be doing. I loved that he didn't do what his family expected of him and went his own way. I also really loved how great of a guy he was with his friends and the family that he chose. He was really caring and would do whatever he could to help them out. He was just a really sweet guy, and I loved that when his family was giving him such a hard time about Harper that he was straight up honest with them and didn't try to cover it up. He knew they would give him a hard time, and he just laid it all out there. Harper had her moments where she was really likable, and then there were other times that she really irritated me. I thought that she was a bit rude and close minded. She seemed to have this attitude straight off and was not very easy to root for at first. I understand that she had been through a lot, but she just seemed to be a bit mean and she made some really dumb decisions right off. I couldn't believe how much she fought Aaron right away. But I came to like her as the story progressed and she started to let her guard down. Aaron really helped her open up and I thought that they were really great for one another. They had a lot of chemistry and were hot together, but they also had a connection that seemed to really grow and strengthen as the book went on.

Overall, this book was short and sweet. It was a great addition to the Line series from what I have read so far. I am so glad that we got Aaron's story after meeting him in Blake's book. I really love how all the characters interact, and that they have sort of made their own family. You could really tell just how much everyone cares for each other, and it was fun to watch them give each other a hard time out of love. This novella was really entertaining and I enjoyed the few hours I spent reading it. I look forward to going back and reading the first few stories in this series, and I know that I will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed Aaron's and Blake's novellas. If you are a Contemporary Romance fan, I think that this series is one that you will really enjoy. These stories are written well, have likable characters, and are quick and enjoyable reads. I will look for more from Kimberly Kincaid in the future.

ARC Review: Outside the Lines by Kimberly Kincaid

Outside The Lines is the third book in a novella series by Kimberly Kincaid and is the first one that I have read. This book can be read as a stand alone, and I didn't feel lost once. I really enjoyed this short and sweet story. After reading Jules and Blake's story, I find myself wanting to start at the beginning and read the previous books. Kimberly Kincaid is definitely an author I will be keeping an eye on and I cannot wait to read more from her.

After an injury at work, Jules is taken to the ER by her boss. She never expects to run into her ex-fiance there though. Having broken up with him eight years ago by letter, she is not ready to explain all the reasons that she ended their relationship despite being in love with him. Blake never expects to see Jules either, and hopes that this run-in will give him some of the answers to questions he has had for eight long years. But Jules runs out on him as fast as possible. Little does she know that he is a liaison for the charity event she is organizing and catering. When the two begin to see each other more and work on the event, it is clear that both of them still feel the same chemistry and attraction that they once felt. But after all the secrets and heartache, can they possibly have a future together and what happens when the secrets that tore them apart eight years ago finally come to light?

I really loved Jules. She was hardworking and determined. Suffering from a horrible past, she always felt as though she wasn't good enough for Blake. It was so real to see that she had weaknesses and was as normal as the rest of us. It made her progress and growth that much more sweet and believable. It was impossible not to root for her from the very start. Blake was sweet and encouraging. I loved that he never judged Jules or looked down on her despite the difference in their circumstances. He truly cared about her because of her personality and did a wonderful job of being supportive and helping her grow as a person. They were fun to read about and the depth of their feelings for each other were so realistic despite the short length of this novella. I never once questioned whether their connection and relationship was authentic.

Overall, this was a quick read for me that I thoroughly enjoyed. Blake and Jules were so sweet and perfect together and this story just made me happy by reading it. This story is just one of those feel good books that you want to lose yourself in and I can tell you that that is exactly what I did. Anyone who is a fan of romance stories and likes them short and sweet will definitely enjoy this story. I can't wait to read more in the future from Kimberly Kincaid, starting with the previous two novellas in this series.
