I hate to say it but I did not like this novella at all. In fact it was my least favorite in the Always a Marine series. It was just so slow. It just dragged on and on and I never felt any real connection between the James and Lauren. Their story just seemed too convoluted and far fetched.
James is a PFC who also happens to work as a clinical psychologist at Mike's Place. He cares about the work he does helping rehabilitate fellow Marine's when they come back from war. He devotes all of his time to his work and because of it his love life is seriously lacking. When his boss recommends that he try 1Night Stand dating service he figures "why not." It worked for the captain so maybe he'll have good results also.
Lauren Kincaid is a popular movie star who has been in the lime light for the past twenty years and she's so over it. She's tired of people being fake and using her just to get ahead. She wants to meet someone who likes her for her, not the movie star actress she plays on-screen. Lauren decides to take up her agents offer to get her set up with the 1Night Stand dating service. Lauren never expected to meet anyone special. She just wanted to spend the nigh in the company of someone who wasn't using her. She never expected to find a connection with someone she never met before, but that is exactly what happens when she meets James.
Both feel an instant connection and are reluctant for the night to end. But when a patient of James needs help, cutting the night short, Lauren is quick to offer up any assistance that is needed.
Like I said before, for me this story was just too slow. Most of the novella is spent with James and Lauren talking. By the time things start to happen, I just didn't care. I had become so bored with the story and the direction that it took. For me, the romance was lacking and that was such a shame because I really enjoyed the first story in this series so much.
