Interview with Author Scarlett Scott and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome Scarlett Scott to RFTC. Scarlett has stopped by to answer a few questions, please give her a warm welcome.

Award-winning author Scarlett Scott writes contemporary and historical romance of varying heat levels. Having graduated from swiping her older sister's romance novels to read in secret, she now crafts happily ever afters of her own. She lives in the Pennsylvania countryside with her Canadian husband and is a proud mom to their adorable but occasionally evil dog with a penchant for eating everything he shouldn't.

Places to find Scarlett:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I'm very happily married. My husband and I have a naughty-but-adorable dog to keep us busy. I'm a farm girl at heart. I love being outdoors, gardening, traveling, cooking, reading and writing. I have a huge passion for the Civil War and Anthony Trollope novels. Wine doesn't last long in my presence. I spend as many weekends as possible at the beach. I'm loyal to a fault but hold a grudge forever.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Oh yes. I've been writing since I was six. I used to illustrate my own stories and read them to my first grade class. It never stopped—I simply moved on to romance when I was old enough to start sneaking my older sister's Johanna Lindsey and Kat Martin books.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I'm a pantser unless I'm being contracted for a book before I've written it and need to write the synopsis first. Then I have to play by the rules, but otherwise, I like to live in my head and allow the characters to find their paths.

Where do your ideas come from?
My ideas come from everywhere. Many of my historical romances are inspired by real historical events or people. I also love listening to country music, and those story songs could be an endless supply of ideas. I've definitely gotten some ideas from my favorite songs, especially for my contemporary romances.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
In these heartwarming small-town stories, it's never too late for true love to have a second chance.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I love Civil War romances. I could read And One Wore Gray all day long. I also love reading contemporary romances that are hip, funny, sexy, and sweet—the kind that make you sigh when you're done reading them. Lately, I've especially had a thing for musician romances, like Karen Booth's Bring Me Back, which I loved.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I really can't pick just one, but one of my all-time favorite contemporary romance novels is See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
It's difficult for me to write in-between scenes sometimes when I want to jump ahead to the moments of conflict or passion. I don't have a whole lot of patience.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
I'm going to reveal my inner nerd here. I would choose Geoffrey Chaucer because he was a brilliant writer far ahead of his time, and I'd love to pick his brain. I'd also choose Anthony Trollope because I'm obsessed with his books and the way he wrote about his fascinating time period. And finally, I'd choose Gertrude Stein because I have long admired her experimental writing. Pretty cool trio, in my opinion.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Yes, I'm working on quite a few things right now. I have a new historical romance, Rebel Love, that is currently in edits. I've also just begun writing the third book in that series. I'm working on book #4 in the Love's Second Chance series, and I'm almost finished with the sequel to my erotic historical novella Her Errant Earl too.

Do you enjoy interacting with authors through social media? Why or why not?

Wynne Carter's one-night-stand with Hollywood bad boy Derek Shaw resulted in life-changing consequences in the form of her precious daughter. Years later, she isn't prepared to face him or his questions when he returns to her small town seeking answers.

With his acting career on hiatus thanks to his wild past, discovering he has a daughter is reason enough for Derek to stick around. Spending timing with her mom isn't too shabby either, and soon he can't keep Wynne or her long legs off his mind.

Wynne knows a man like Derek is made for sin, not happily-ever-afters, but resisting him proves pretty darn impossible. For a while, it looks as if the unlikely pairing of the single mom and the heartthrob might make it after all. Until Hollywood wants its leading man back, and their new relationship threatens to fall apart forever.
