Meet Bliss author, Jennifer Shirk.
Jennifer Shirk has a bachelor degree in pharmacy-which has in NO WAY at all helped her with her writing career. But she likes to point it out, since it shows romantic-at-hearts come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations.
She writes sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Samhain Publishing, Avalon Books/Montlake Romance and now Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest with her first book, THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME. Recently, her novel SUNNY DAYS FOR SAM won the 2013 Golden Quill Published Authors Contest for Best Traditional Romance.
Lately she's been on a serious exercise kick. But don't hold that against her.
Places to find Jennifer:
Hi, all! Jennifer here.
I'm so excited to participate in this great Romance is Bliss Event!
Whether in real life or in a book, romance always brings great joy. Therefore, romance IS bliss and one of the key reasons I love to write it. I get a natural high when I successfully bring two favorite characters together, make them fall in love, and then give them their happy ending.
I'm smiling just thinking about it!
It stands to reason that I would enjoy reading romance novels too. And I do! In fact, I read a variety of genres, but romance is hands down my favorite and still my first love (so to speak).
So WHY ROMANCE?
I'm so glad you asked, because I've come prepared. :-)
THREE REASONS WHY I LOVE ROMANCE
- ESCAPISM: I love to pretend to be in the heroine's shoes and watch some gorgeous hunk turn his life upside-down for me—er, her. There is nothing more fun than immersing myself with the characters. It's their interactions with one another that make me feel a part of their world and story.
- SEXUAL TENSION: For me, it's not reading or writing about the actual "act" that is so great, it's EVERYTHING LEADING UP to that point that gives me goose bumps. It's the best part of any romance novel—sweet or hot.
- A GUARANTEED HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER: Nothing can bring me down faster than a book that leaves me wondering if the character or characters are happy by the end. After all, I just invested hours with these characters. I care about them. With a romance, I KNOW at the end everything will be fine and dandy. Whew! Let's face it, life is tough and sad enough. A little uplifting entertainment does my mind and heart good.
How about you? Do you agree with my reasons? Do you want to share any of your own?
Thanks so much to the Ramblings From This Chick blog for having me today!
Also, don't forget to check out my Bliss Romance from Entangled Publishing, where there is a hunky hero, plenty of sexual tension and a very happy ending. :)
***I will be giving away a $10 Amazon GC***
Kendall Grisbaum is finally taking charge of her life—pouring her heart into opening a new bakery business and even allowing her best friend Georgie to play matchmaker for her. Trouble is, the one guy she secretly wants is Georgie's older brother, Brad, who is decidedly off limits.
Brad can't seem to get his little sister's best friend out of his mind. He and Kendall used to be close friends, too, and as a local policeman, Brad can't help but play protector, looking out for Kendall. When he offers to help her renovate her new bakery space on the side, their friendship—and their attraction—flares back to life.
Amid the temptation of doughnut muffins and blueberry cobbler, a new temptation draws them both closer. Can they take a chance on love when it means risking their friendship, even when not doing so risks everything?

I agree with all of your reasons! Romance is my very favorite genre.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the post and giveaway! I love Amazon, so fingers crossed for luck. ;-)
Oh definitely! I love the escapism and the HEA! :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you. Reading romance is a way to escape for a while and forget all the pulls of real life. The HEAs give us hope!! Keep writing Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteI most certainly agree with you. I love the escapism and the HEAs, but I also love the story that leads up to a HEA. To me it's the process that counts the most. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100 percent! Those are all the reasons I moved from Dean Koontz and Stephen King into romance :)
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's all about the HEA (or HFN). It seems like all we ever hear on the news is the bad stuff and after the usual long day at the office, the last thing I want to read is something depressing. Romance lifts my spirits and makes me happy again.
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely! With so many problems around lately, I like to read about HEAs!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you :) I love reading romance !!!
ReplyDeleteI think our reasons match perfectly. I'm not fond of the romances that don't have any sexual tension or any chemistry between the protagonists before they get together.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I definitely read romance for the HEA! I like a positive ending.
ReplyDeleteHI, Everyone! Thanks for chiming in!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you to Ramblings From This Chick for having me today! It's such a great event!
I totally agree with your reasons.
ReplyDeleteI think you summed it up well in three reasons, which I agree with 100%.
ReplyDeleteI also agree... you summed it up quite nicely :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with your reasons for reading romance!! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I have to have the HEA :)
ReplyDeleteI agree!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I totally agree. Give me a HEA & I am very happy.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your three reasons - especially the HEA!
ReplyDeleteHEA is my #1 reason I read. Also, get to read about others problems and forget my own!
ReplyDeleteOh, definitely! I agree with all three actually! I also like that I know how it's going to end but the question is how will it get there??
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
My favorite books to read are where sexual tension builds! And I do read to escape! But romance books can also make your own bedroom fun and interesting with ideas for exciting nights! ;)
ReplyDeleteBarrie
I agree with you completely, especially with the HEA part! I must have it in all my books, the real world sucks enough as it is, at least books can be perfect and happy :D
ReplyDeleteI agree - escapism is huge for me. I want to have that happily ever after and escape from my daily problems. :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Those are the 3 reasons I love romance novels too.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly nice to live vicariously through the characters. In that way, I guess I'd have to agree with your point regarding escapism.
