My name is Jen Frederick and I live in Iowa with my husband, daughter, and very large dog. I really want a cat though. I keep telling my husband that I won’t be a real writer until I have a cat. I didn’t realize I wanted to be a fiction writer until a few years ago. At the encouragement of a few friends, I turned a NANO manuscript into a real book and I’ve been publishing ever since.
In my downtime, I love to read, craft, and cook. I used to sew for my daughter until she developed a taste for ready made garments. Now the sewing machine is stored away but someday I home to pull it out again.
The best part of writing is interacting with other readers. I love to share what I’m reading and I love to hear what has moved you. Don’t hesitate to contact me at any time!
"Hey, Knox, you ready for the season to start?" Matty asks me. Matty Iverson is the outside linebacker for the Western State Warriors and probably my closet friend and teammate.
"Never readier." That's the damn truth. If it were me, the season would start in August. Hell, even July. I'm ready for it to be on. The beginning of the year is my favorite. It's a new season, a fresh slate, a time to make up for all my past mistakes. I have a feeling this year is going to be better than all the other years put together.
"What about your brother? How do you think he'll do this season?"
My twin brother, Ty Masters, plays defensive end for the Cougars. Unfortunately for him, the star quarterback suffered a broken leg riding his motorcycle during one of the few weekends we get off during the summer. "He thinks they'll be lucky to be 7-6."
"Sucks man." Matty clucks his tongue in sympathy. He changes the subject quickly because dwelling on players with injuries is like asking for bad voodoo to be visited on your own team. "Any classes you are looking forward to? I got into the forensics practicum."
Matty wants to be an FBI agent...after he's done playing pro ball of course.
"Congrats dude." We exchange high fives. "I took a bunch of classes for my major but I'm not excited about any of them," I admit.
"Well, then, how about the chicks. Did you see any good ones among the fresh meat?"
My mind flickers to the girl at Union Stadium, the one I met this morning. The one I think I'm going to marry. She doesn't know that yet, but I've got a whole year to convince her. "Yeah," I answer slowly. "I think I found a good one."
Matty's jaw drops open. He taps his ear like he is hard of hearing. "Did I just hear you right? Did Knox Masters just admit he's hot after some chick."
"Not some chick," I scold. Leaning back, I fold my arms behind my head. "The chick."
What he wants he gets…
Knox Masters is a quarterback’s worst nightmare. Warrior. Champion. And…virgin. Knox knows what he wants–and he gets it. All American Football player? Check. NFL pros scouting him? Check. Now, he’s set his sight on two things. The national title. And Ellie Campbell. Sure, she’s the sister of his fellow teammate, but that’s not going to stop him. Especially not when he’s convinced Ellie is the one.
…but he’s never met her before.
But Ellie isn’t as sure. She’s trying to start a new life and she’s not interested in a relationship…with anyone. Beside it’s not just her cardinal rule of never dating her brother’s teammates that keeps her away, but Ellie has a dark secret that would jeopardize everything Knox is pursuing.
Knox has no intention of losing. Ellie has no intention of giving in.
