A Blissfully Spooky Halloween with Rachel Harris

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Harris writes humorous love stories about sassy girls-next-door and the hot guys that make them swoon. Emotion, vibrant settings, and strong relationships are a staple in each of her books…and kissing. Lots of kissing.

An admitted Diet Mountain Dew addict and homeschool mom, she gets through each day by laughing at herself, hugging her kids, and watching way too much Food Network with her husband. She writes young adult, new adult, and adult romances, and LOVES talking with readers!

Confession Time: The word SPOOK and Rachel Harris do not go together.

Don’t get me wrong. I get tickled seeing my beautiful girls dressed up in their costumes and it’s a great time to reconnect with neighbors when you traipse door-to-door, but the whole SCARY aspect of the day gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Honestly, I’m a big old wuss. A straight-up, cringe at blood, shrink from confrontation, scream at frogs (yes, frogs) type of wuss. Lots of people can say they’re afraid of spiders or snakes or mice. Maybe it’s the sight of blood that does them in. For me, it’s all the above and then some.

In the spirit of all things SPOOKY, I present THE TOP FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE ME GO EEK!
  1. Frogs. Big frogs, little frogs, some as big as your head…They can be real, stuffed, or made of porcelain, I don’t care. Those suckers creep me the heck out.
  2. Roaches. Y’all, I grew up in New Orleans. These things are everywhere. They have squirmy little legs and some can fly, and the loud crunch their bodies make when you step on them is somehow even ickier than the vile creatures themselves. YUCK!
  3. Seeing other people in pain. If there is blood, the eek factor goes up ten-fold, but even if I just know you are in pain or ill, I feel it, too. The term is ‘sympathy pains’ and it makes me sound sweet and sensitive, but occasionally, it’s really just a huge pain in the butt….sometimes quite literally. I can’t read books with suffering because I curl up in the fetal position, and horror flicks? Oh heck to the no. See? Wuss.
  4. Mice. I hate to tell my girl Cinderella, but mice aren’t cute. I’ve yet to meet one that sings and can sew a mean dress. Mostly, they just scurry around and make me jump on furniture.
  5. Vlogs. Did I just lose you?? Ha! Seriously, though, posting videos scare me. Talking in front of crowds, or even standing in front of a video camera is no sweat. I used to host TV shows in college. But for some odd reason, whenever I sit in front of my computer and attempt to spill my guts or be witty via video, my brain shuts off. I sputter and I stammer and I make a lot of strange noises. Oh, and I’m the queen of ramble. I think I need a teleprompter.

There you have it, my top five EEK inspirations and the low down on why I’m not the spokesperson for all things Spooky. However, I do love the excuse to be silly and I’m a huge holiday junkie. Thanksgiving is one of my all-time favorite holidays, second only to Christmas.

SEVEN DAY FIANCE is set during that special time of year and it shines a spotlight on how we celebrate things a little bit differently down in Cajun country. Good food and silly songs, counting our blessings and the focus on family. That is much more my speed—and not a bit scary ;)

How about YOU? What’s your favorite holiday?

Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning Cane at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.

  11. I have to always go with Christmas. I LOVE giving gifts, and baking, so it's a favorite. Halloween I used to love when the kids were little and we lived in the city. Handing out candy to the little ones was blast, but my youngest is 15 and we live in the country now with no trick or treaters so it's rather boring LOL
