Interview with Author Katy Evans and Giveaway

Meet Katy Evans, author of Manwhore.

Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Hi, Dani, thanks so much for having me over! I'm Katy Evans, author of the Real series, and the newly releasing Manwhore series. I'm an avid reader, like you, and a mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend, and a writer.

Did you always want to be a writer?
For at least two decades. It started when I was 12 and picked up a young adult book by Francine Pascal (Sweet Valley High), and from there I moved to romance, and then I started reading everything that I could. I'm in love with love stories though, and it was after my first few romances that I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I'm a Panster, for sure. I love giving my characters free reign, and let them take me into their worlds.

Where do your ideas come from?
Different things, sometimes it's a song, sometimes it's a thought, personal experience, or a subject that has started to fascinate me, usually the ideas come when I least expect. When I'm driving, taking a walk, cooking, taking a shower, at the supermarket. Usually when they strike I don't immediately start writing though. I let it percolate for a bit and then, once I get to know the characters, I'm ready to write.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
One young journalist puts her heart and body in danger when the exposé she’s writing leads her into the arms of a notorious womanizer…

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I love fiction, but mostly, I love romances. I just love the connection between a man and a woman, and I love watching that connection form.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I am a huge book lover so there are a lot of stories that have stayed with me throughout the years. One of them is Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë. That has to be the most powerful love story that I have ever read! Heathcliff is the ultimate brooding hero.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The scenes I usually most work on are the beginnings. They need to be just right. You need to set up the story, the characters, their problems, their goals, and establish a clear connection with the reader. Why will he or she (the reader) care about this character? And why is it important that they keep reading? Sometimes, I'm in the middle of the story, when I realize that I'm not starting at the correct place. So I go back and rework it, just to make sure I have everything set up in place.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
I really enjoy talking to other authors. Speaking about our process, publishing experiences. Dinner with any writer would be a treat, but if I could bring them back, I'd love to have dinner with the Brontë sisters, Emily Brontë, Charlotte Brontë and Anne Brontë. I would love to know about their lives, their experiences in publishing at a time where women rarely published at all. Judging by their works they were all different, personality-wise, but they shared the passion for writing. What was it like to live in a house with so much writing talent? What do each of them think about the other's work?

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Yes, I'm currently working on the sequel to Malcolm and Rachel's story, Manwhore +1, and I can't wait to share the story with readers. It comes out July 7, so watch for it!

Name a characteristic in a heroine which you admire. I'd love to know.

Is it possible to expose Chicago’s hottest player—without getting played?

This is the story I've been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.

Mysterious. Privileged. Legendary. His entire life he’s been surrounded by the press as they dig for tidbits to see if his fairytale life is for real or all mirrors and social media lies. Since he hit the scene, his secrets have been his and his alone to keep. And that’s where I come in.

Assigned to investigate Saint and reveal his elusive personality, I’m determined to make him the story that will change my career.

But I never imagined he would change my life. Bit by bit, I start to wonder if I'm the one discovering him...or if he's uncovering me.

What happens when the man they call Saint, makes you want to sin?
