Interview with Author Rebecca Zanetti and Giveaway #CMCon16

Meet Rebecca Zanetti author of over twenty-five dark paranormals, romantic suspense, and contemporary romances and one of the fabulous featured authors that will be at the Coastal Magic Convention in February in Daytona Beach.

Rebecca Zanetti is the author of over twenty-five dark paranormals, romantic suspense, and contemporary romances, and her books have appeared multiple times on the New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iBooks bestseller lists.  She lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her own Alpha hero, two kids, a couple of dogs, a crazy cat…and a huge extended family.  She believes strongly in luck, karma, and working her butt off…and she thinks one of the best things about being an author, unlike the lawyer she used to be, is that she can let the crazy out.  Her current series are: The Dark Protectors, The Maverick Montana Cowboys, and the Sin Brothers series.  Upcoming series are: The Realm Enforcers and The Scorpius Syndrome.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Well…I like socks, wine, and movies from the 1940’s. =) Other than that, I’m happily married, have two kids, a couple of animals, and live half-way up a mountain overlooking a lake and a bunch of other mountains. It’s a great place to write.

Did you always want to be a writer?
You know, I did always want to write, but I wanted to do a lot of other stuff, too. I was a lawyer, a hearing examiner, a college professor, and a Senate aide…and I graduated college with a journalism degree. I’d like to study genetics next.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I’m definitely a pantster. I’ve tried to plot, and I always end up just writing once more scene before getting to the plot…until the book is finished. So now I just sit and write and figure it out as I go.

Where do your ideas come from?
I think ideas come from everywhere, you know? Conversations, shows, commercials, sitting in line to pick up kids at school, in the stands at games, in songs…

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
The Scorpius Syndrome series is about life, danger, and love after a plague.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
You name it, I love to read it. I read everything from middle grade novels to erotica to legal journals. I’m happy when I’m reading.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I love the way J.D. Salinger put words together to create emotion – I like his books a lot, even though it’s hard to find a happy ending in them. Mostly I love happy endings in books and movies, to be honest.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write? Why?
The hardest scenes for me to write are the ‘slower, let the reader catch her breath’ scenes. There’s no catching of the breath. =)

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Stephen King, Nora Roberts, and J.D. Salinger. Can you imagine how entertaining that dinner would be? Man, I could.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m working on SHADOW FALLING, which is the second book in the Scorpius Syndrome series, after MERCURY STRIKING. The heroes are hot and dangerous, and yet, the women can be deadly.

If you could have dinner with anybody in the world, who would it be and why?

  14. I wish I could be cool and say some famous person or my favorite author but I'd choose my grandparents... They're still alive, luckily, but I don't live close enough to them and only see them once every few years and since they're getting up there in age I'm afraid there won't be many more opportunities to spend time with them.
