Marcus Reid from TELL ME WHEN and LET ME KNOW
Chase flips through the TV channels for who knows what. Basketball season is a long way from starting yet. When he doesn’t find what he’s looking for, he lets out a hard breath.
“You, dude, need to get laid,” I tell him.
He grunts some sort of caveman response that further confirms what I told him. But it’s true, and if we had bothered with freshman orientation, I’m positive that fact would’ve been covered there: F****** is the best cure for back-to-class restlessness.
Speaking of sex, I do my best not to calculate how many hours remained before I see Amber, my girlfriend, again. She was spending the last week of summer vacation with her mom and grandmother. This will be my senior year of the electrical engineering program, which promises to be my hardest year yet. As much as I’m looking forward to it and the chance of making my brother proud, after how much he sacrificed for me, including his life, I’m looking forward to seeing Amber that much more. She’s the reason I survived the past year.
My smart phone pings. I read Amber’s text.
Question: What does one plus one equal?
I grin. I’m usually the one who tells the lame math jokes. It was our thing when I tutored her last year.
Answer: You and me. In the shower. :)
Correction. This won’t be my hardest year yet.
This year will be the best year, ever.
Can't wait to get your hands on more from Stina Linenblatt? Coming in 2016 TWO brand new series featuring hockey players and rock stars.
Amber Scott should be enjoying life as a college freshman. She should be pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She should be working hard to make sense of her precalculus math class. She shouldn't be waking up her college roommate with screaming nightmares. She shouldn't be flashing back, reliving the three weeks of hell she barely survived last year. And she definitely shouldn't be spending time with sexy player Marcus Reid. But engineering student Marcus is the only one keeping Amber from failing her math course, so she grudgingly lets him into her life. She never expects the king of hookups will share his painful past. Or that she'll tell him her secrets in return, opening up and trusting him in a way she thought she'd never be able to again. When their fragile future together is threatened by a stalker Amber thought was locked away for good, Marcus is determined to protect her—and Amber is determined to protect Marcus…even if that means pushing him away.
