Fall into Romance Event with Sonya Weiss

Meet Sonya Weiss, author of Stealing the Groom.

From the time she was a child, Sonya knew she was destined to be a writer. If she didn’t like the ending of a book or movie, she would write her own ending. When her children were young, she often wrote stories to entertain them. At the urging of one of her daughters, she submitted a short story and to her surprise and delight, it sold.

Sonya loves writing all things romance whether it’s writing contemporary adult or teen fiction and still hasn’t lost the wonder that she gets to do what she loves.

She enjoys reading, movies, chocolate, and laughter and credits her daughters as being the sweetest blessings in her life.

I’m so excited to be part of the Fall into Romance Event! This event combines some of my favorite things—romance and the fall season.

I was fortunate to grow up in a home where both of my parents were avid readers. Since both my mom and dad read in a variety of genres, I had a lot of exposure to different author styles.

I read almost every book Louis L’Amour wrote because my dad was such a fan. The Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald was another favorite of his, so I read those, too. He introduced me to Isaac Asimov and other great writers. Mom loved horror books and her favorite author was Stephen King. But she also introduced me to other authors such as Sidney Sheldon.

Then one day when I was a teenager, a neighbor across the street brought over a huge bag filled with romance novels. Since these were something new to read, I picked one up and quickly read it. Then another. There were exotic locations, alpha males and women fighting for what they wanted out of life and love. I was hooked from that day forward.

Though I’d been making up my own stories from the time I was a small child, I didn’t fully settle it within myself that I wanted to be a writer until I read romance novels. It was as if everything fell into place and I knew those were the kinds of books I wanted to write.

Unlike some of the other books I’d read, the romance novels had a happy ending, which I loved. Though there were problems, everything eventually worked out for the hero and heroine. The ending left me with a sense of hope and even all these years later, I can still remember how those first romance novels made me feel.

That’s how I fell into writing romance novels. I knew that I wanted to write stories about couples who overcome whatever life throws at them to find the person they were meant to be with.

In the fall, when the leaves are on the ground and there’s a nip in the air, it’s relaxing to sit with a cup of hot chocolate, a good romance novel, and root for that happily ever after.

Friends don’t let friends marry the wrong woman…

Chad Walker may be a take-no-chances man with a plan, but there’s no way Amelia Snyder is going to let her best bud marry Mean Girl #1—even if the wedding is solely so he can secure the controlling shares in his family’s company. But free-spirited Amelia’s at-the-altar groomnapping scheme takes a surprising turn when she ends up as the blushing bride instead.

Suddenly, with Amelia living in her handsome husband’s home—in his bedroom, no less—she starts to reconsider their strictly platonic arrangement. But Chad’s always been anti-risk and definitely anti-love, and betting a lifetime of best friendship on the chance at forever might be the biggest gamble of all..

  2. Aww...best friends to lovers! One of my favorite types! I love my romances too! I need that HEA! Nothing worse than reading a story to find out one of the main characters ends up dying or something.

    1. Sue, I know, right? I can't stand that. I recently finished a fantastic love story and the hero dies in the end. I was so mad because it was such a great story. I will never write a story with a main character dying.

    2. That happened to me on vacation a few years back. I was reading this story on the beach that was highly recommended. It was called One Day. It was a great story and great concept but a main character dies in the end. I sat there crying on the beach, on my vacation. It really sucked.

    3. I think that's the book they based the movie on if I'm thinking correctly. The one with Anne Hathaway. I rooted for the guy to get his act together and then that shocking ending? I was so upset.

    4. Yep, that was the book. I took my mom to see the movie but didn't tell her anything about the ending. She was not happy with me for not warning her.

  3. I think I wanted to be a writer as a child too, but then I realized reading was much more fun. :)

    1. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. That and watching movies. Every time I tell myself my too-be-read pile is large enough and I should stop adding to it, I find yet another book that sounds interesting.

    1. Thank you, Rita. When I originally came up with the idea, I didn't think it would sell and I actually put it away for a while. But I had so much fun writing it that when an opportunity came up on Marisa Cleveland's blog to enter it, I did and won. That was the first step that got the ball rolling toward the book's publication.

  10. Hi Marcy, thank you! There are two more in the series. Stealing the Groom is Amelia's story and the following two books are her sisters' stories. The second book, titled Stealing Abby's Heart, is next up for release. That one is Abby's story.

  19. Hi Anita! Love the Cookie Monster avatar. I have a Cookie Monster hoodie that I wear and little kids love it. LOL. The friends-to-lovers trope is one of my favorites too. And thank you, hope you enjoy it. The next one is coming out in November. It was going to be titled Stealing Abby's Heart but that changed to Resisting Her Rival.
