New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant has been praised for her "totally addictive" and "unique and sensual" stories. Her latest acclaimed series, Dark Kings, features a thrilling combination of dragons, Fae, and immortal Highlanders who are dark, dangerous, and irresistible. She lives with her two children and an assortment of animals in Texas.
I had to smile when Dani told me that I needed to talk about a secret. Secrets play a big role in all of my books. In the Dark Sword/Dark Warrior series, the Warriors have to pretend they don’t have primeval gods bound inside them. In the connected Dark Kings (aka Dragon Kings) series, the dragons hide from the world in plain site as whisky distillers.
I hold several secrets, especially I regards to the Dragon Kings. One is that I have no idea how the series is going to play out. Each time I sit to write a story, I’m shocked, intrigued, and amazed at what my characters do. I’ve learned not to force them to do something I think I want them to do, because they have it all worked out. Somehow. Lol
One of my biggest secrets is about everyone’s favorite Light Fae – Rhi. Readers ask me every day to give some clue or hint to who her Dragon King lover was. There are hints in every book. But I love reading speculation on who it might be, who readers want it to be, and who they really don’t want it to be.
It’s a secret not even my editor or agent know. And one I’ll be keeping for a little longer. When such secrets are pivotal to a series, it has to remain hidden until the right time.
I have a feeling I know when that time will be, but then again, my characters have a mind of their own and change things on me on the time – keeping their own secrets.
