ARC Review: The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress by Erica Ridley

Book 2 in the Duke’s of War series by Erica Ridley. This is a fantastic book but it ended rather quickly but ohhhhh the ending was so sweet and worth it. I enjoyed the first book of the series and you see the characters from it again but have very little to do with the story and this one can be read as a standalone. It’s a short and easy to read historical with wonderful and deep characters.

Disillusioned war hero is faced with a woman who won’t see him as anything but a hero. A plain Jane invisible to the world decides that if she going to spend the rest of her life a spinster she wants to know passion first and her choice is the one man who has starred in all her fantasies. Jane and Xavier are quite a couple when the war first ended Xavier was so withdrawn into himself, not talking or responding to anyone until one day he came back to the world and now he wants to be alone, left to live with his misery. For Jane Downing there wasn’t any other choice but be a blue stocking but she never thought she would be so invisible, no matter what she did how she acted no one remembered her. When Jane hears of Xavier plans she has other ideas, when she learns that Captain Grey is going to be alone in alone in his cottage and her brother is also going away for business she sees her chance for a brief affair. Jane arrives with a demon cat in tow at the beginnings of a snowstorm at Xavier’s door. Xavier tries his damnedest to stay away but Jane tempts him like no other.

  1. I'm a sucker for gorgeous covers and this one caught my eye! I'm planning on reading the whole series later this year!
