Review: Chosen By Blood by Virna DePaul

I admit to being slightly disappointed with this book. I was expecting a little bit more romance and I honestly didn't really grow to like Knox until the last few chapters. I just felt like Knox was slightly jerky (being the better word) and I never really understood the love both him and Felicia felt for one another. We are repeatedly told that they both love each other but why? I felt that Knox never really even got to know Felicia and the type of person she was. I get that they are soul mates but that shouldn't necessarily mean that you love someone. I need to be shown why and I just don't think that was done well.

I really did enjoy the world that Virna created. It seemed very realistic and believable. I also loved reading about the Para-Ops team. I found all of the characters extremely interesting and I can't wait to see how they develop even more in future books. I especially love the tension between Wraith and O'Flare. I can't wait to read O'Flare's book.

Review: My Irresistible Earl by Gaelen Foley

Lord Falconridge is a member of the Inferno Club which to the public seems like a club for debauchery and shenanigans but is actually a cover for the Order whose members are spies sworn to protect the King of England and their country from the Promethean's. When Jordan, Lord Falcolnridge is just twenty two he meets and falls in love with Mara. For Jordan this is a difficult time because he is about to be sent off on his first mission for the Order. So he leaves and never writes to Mara fearing that his letters might somehow endanger her with his enemies. He returns one year later to find Mara married to another man.

Flash forward twelve years, Jordan has just returned to London to work on a case for the Order. While at an auction Jordan and Mara run into each other. Both experience strong feelings of anger towards the other. Jordan is still angry that she didn't wait for him and has held a torch for her for the twelve years he's been gone. While Mara has never quite gotten over Jordan and doesn't understand how he could have left and never wrote her. She is also mad at herself because she had a disastrous marriage and the only good thing that came from it is her son Thomas and her close friendship with the Prince Regent.

Eventually Jordan and Mara become lovers. Both have always carried strong feelings for the other and they just don't want to be apart anymore. The only problem with this is that Mara never fully trust Jordan because she senses that he is hiding something from him. Jordan, is hiding secrets from Mara but it's because he is in the Order. He doesn't want her harmed for knowing too much.

I really had a hard time finishing this book. There were a few times I put it down not wanting to pick it up again. The only reason I did is because I really wanted to know what was going to happen with Drake who was a secondary character. I felt that the romance in this book was overshadowed by the spying. It just seemed as if the romance was an afterthought. I never really felt Jordan and Mara connect. We the readers are repeatedly told that they both love eachother but never are we shown how it came to be. As for Mara, I never really grew to like her. She just seemed so selfish and everything was about her. I never really felt her love for Jordan. I had such high hopes for this book. I am a sucker for second chance loves stories so when I saw that this book had one I was very eager to read it. I was very disappointed. I honestly did not even care what happened with Falconridge and Mara.

Review: Scandal of the Year by Laura Lee Guhrke

I am a huge Laura Lee Guhrke fan and I was extremely anxious to read Scandal of the Year. This book definitely did not disappoint.

SOTY, picks up two years after Wedding of the Season left off. SOTY opens up with Julia Yardley being accused of having an affair with Aidan Carr, the Duke of Trathen by her husband. After publicly declaring her affair, she obtains a long sought after divorce from her abusive husband.

Now six months later Aidan Carr is once again looking for a wife when he encounters Julia at a ball. Aidan knows that they had an affair but cannot remember all of the details because he was heavily intoxicated when it happened. He finds himself continuously battling a strong desire for Julia. Julia has always had strong feelings for Aidan and feels terrible for using him to obtain her divorce. She is now trying to become more respectable and wants to pay her debts so she goes to Aidan for help with a job. Aidan, who is looking for a wife that compliments him and is suitable for becoming a Duchess ask Julia to become his social secretary.

Whenever the two are together we see lots of sparks flying. Both are attracted to the other but neither wants to act on it. Julia is still trying to get over her horrendous marriage. She has made herself not feel anytype of emotions in twelve years to help herself cope. When she is with Aidan he makes her feel things and she hates it. So she keeps running away from him. Aidan, just can't seem to get Julia off his mind so he is continuouly chasing her.

Eventually the two come together and it's wonderful to see Julia's walls come down. We also see the proper and staid Aidan reconize his feelings and realize that he's loved Julia since they met twelve years ago.

Review: Goddess of The Hunt by Tessa Dare

I'm not going to lie, I have had this book on my TBR pile for well over a year now. I remember that I bought it at a library book sale and that the story looked promising but I hated the cover. I will be totally honest, I am a cover girl. I will buy almost any book if it has a great cover. There have been many a good book that took me years to read because I just flat out hated the cover. That was the case for me with this book. It was so boring and it just looked like it would be a slightly slower story once I openned it. Can I just say with this book, I was completely wrong. I adored this book! It started off with a bang and didn't slow down until I turned the last page.

Lucy Waltham has been living with her brother Henry ever since both of her parents died. Lucy is a tomboy and is completely in love with Henry's friend Sir Tobias Aldridge and has been for eight years. She has found out that Toby has plans to propose to Sophia Hathaway who is also staying at the estate. Lucy decides that she will try and seduce Toby but in order to do that she must practice on her brothers other friend Jeremy Trescott, Earl of Kendall. After three kisses Jeremy has realized that his best friends younger sister Lucy is no longer a girl but a fiery woman and he cannot stop thinking about her.

This book was so much more than just two people finding love with one another. We are able to see the growth between both characters. I was able to see the love that both had for each other. It might not have been an easy road but they still made it in the end. I definitely recommend this book.

Easter Dinner and Books

So yesterday I had Easter dinner with my family. For once it was nice. Normally with my family there is a lot of talking over one another and usually someone fights with someone else. Not this time. We all got along and I got to talk about my favorite topic with my aunt and her husband-books. I savor these talks because I really have no one else to talk to about books-unless you count online friends. We talked for hours on the types of books we like to read and the possibility of writing a novel. Turns out my uncle, her husband wants to write a couple of books based on cases he has seen while working as a detective. I think it's a splendid idea. Too be honest I'm a little jealous. I wish I had something that I could possibly write down. All I get are a few scenes here and there and somehow I'm supposed to construct a whole story from it. I just honestly don't see it happening. I don't know, maybe I'm a Debby Downer or maybe it's just me being realistic. I just wish I knew. Is it this hard for other would be writers?
