ARC Review: A Scandalous Matter by Margaret Locke

A Scandalous Matter is book number three in the Magic of Love series by Margaret Locke. It has a little taste of magic and time travel in it and a lot of love. It was an enjoyable read for the most part.

Amara Mattersley cannot believe that she is in present day America. She is overwhelmed because she was born in Regency England. Her sister-in-law revealed to her she was from the future and offered Amara the opportunity to leave her scandalous reputation behind by time travelling to the future. Matthew Goodson is very focused on his career goals of obtaining tenure. So when he randomly gets kissed by an oddly dressed girl who speaks with a strange accent, he barely processes the peculiarity. What does break through his focus is the strong attraction he has for Amara.

The various freedoms women have in the current day encompass Amara. She tries to start college, she wears some scandalous (for her) outfits, and she explores her sexuality... with Matthew. The two agree to a purely physical relationship, no strings attached. They however can't help the emotions taking over them.

The romance was sweet. I did enjoy the couple discovering each other. There were some hard issues the two have to go through, and that made me a little more saddened than I like to get from these books. I was a little frustrated with Amara's goal to go to college. When she arrives in today's time, she cannot immediately begin school because it's the middle of the semester. I felt this was a cop out by the author a little. I really wanted to see Amara attend school. Instead all she focused on was her social freedoms.

All in all, I still like the magical concept of the love manuscript. The romance was sweet, and it mostly gave me that good feeling I need from romance books like these. It was an interesting idea that left me not fully knowing what genre this book falls under. I really liked that confusion, because it was something different.

Feature and Giveaway: Assassin Games by Sidney Bristol

Anderson Gratney does odd jobs that usually involve a gun and covert ops for the CIA. His latest assignment? Kidnap a CIA analyst in order to keep her safe. Easy. Except there’s nothing simple about the beautiful, careful Carol Sark, who tempts him the more he learns about her.

Coming face to face with a masked man in her home is the most terrifying experience of Carol’s life—until he kidnaps her. He claims he’s there to keep her safe, but she doesn’t know who to trust. And until they can figure out who the threat is, she's forced to take him at his word.

Time is ticking, and even though she drives him nuts, Anderson very much wants to keep her alive. Unfortunately, the assassins have other ideas…

Feature and Giveaway: One Wedding Two Brides by Heidi Betts

Sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs…

Jilted bride Monica Blair can’t believe it when she wakes up next to a blue-eyed, smooth-talking cowboy in the middle of nowhere and with a ring on her finger. It had sounded like a great plan at the time. Get married, get revenge, and get her money back. So why is she cleaning out stables and trying to keep her hands off the hot cowboy helping her?

Ryder Nash would have bet his best Stetson that you’d never see him walk down the aisle. But when the city girl with pink-streaked hair and a frog tattoo hatches a plan to expose the conman who married his sister, no idea is too crazy. And even though Monica might be the worst rancher’s wife he’s ever seen, he can’t stop thinking about the wedding night they never had.

What was supposed to be a temporary marriage for revenge is starting to feel a little too real…

ARC Review: The Naked Truth by Vi Keeland

I love Vi Keeland! Since the first book I ever read of hers, I have been addicted to her stories. I don’t even read blurbs anymore, I just add her books to my TBR when announced and prepare to dive in. I have never been disappointed yet, and I definitely wasn’t here. The Naked Truth was so good, and it was different than anything I have read before! This is definitely a must read!

I don’t want to give away too much about this story, because honestly I think it is best read knowing nothing going in. But Gray and Layla first met under some interesting circumstances. Now they once again meet up again when Layla’s career depends on taking on a new client, and Gray just so happens to be the client. But the first time she was left with a broken heart and now that her career is at stake can she really take a risk on rekindling something when not only her heart but also career are on the line?

I loved these two. Sparks flew right away and I couldn’t get enough. They were interesting and I felt the connection right away. Gray and Layla were captivating, and I felt their relationship was more than just the intense attraction and chemistry between them, but also emotional and deep. I am a sucker for second chance romance stories, especially ones that are unique and this one definitely ticked all the boxes I look for in a great romance.

No one writes like Vi Keeland does, and I think she just gets better with each release. Her writing draws you in immediately and I always feel so invested in her characters and stories. Gray and Layla have become some of my favorites having read The Naked Truth and I think that readers are going to love this one just as much as I did. Check this one out, you won’t want to miss it! I already can’t wait for Vi’s next book!
