Review: Unforgiven by Ruth Clampett

I love friends to lovers romance stories and I was really excited to read Unforgiven by Ruth Clampett. I especially love this trope in M/M romance books, and Jason and Dean's story was one that I really thought was going to be a home run for me. Unfortunately I had too many issues to love this one, and I am unsure at this point if I would read more from this author.

Dean and Jason have been best friends since childhood, following their dreams of opening up their own architecture firm by going to the same college and joining the same program. As roommates though, everything changes when Dean sees Jason with another guy. Jason has secretly wanted Dean for years, but has been forced to watch him go through countless women. When things suddenly start to heat up between them though, both struggle with what it means for their friendship and their future.

One of my biggest issues here was the fact that Dean was almost impossible to like for the majority of this book. He was an absolute homophobic jerk, making so many comments that were beyond acceptable that I didn't know that he could ever recover from them. Jason was often times a complete doormat that it made him hard to like as well. While these two clearly had a connection and chemistry, I just couldn't get beyond those things. Seriously it was shocking the thoughts and words that Dean had.

I also have to say that for a M/M story this book had a shocking amount of M/F action, and that really just didn't work for me. While I enjoy M/F books as well as M/M, I felt like it really hurt my opinion of this one right from the start and that along with the character issues here were enough to kill this story for me. If those things weren't enough though, there was a huge communication problem that led to cheating and it was all just brushed to the side and wasn't dealt with as though it was okay. That was the final nail in the coffin on this one for me. If you are looking for an asshole hero that makes a ton of homophobic remarks and is the least supportive friend ever when it comes to his best friend and future boyfriend coming out as well as some giant communication issues that lead to cheating then this one might be for you. However, I can't recommend this one based on everything that I had problems with here.

ARC Review: Maverick by Karina Halle

I'll be honest, after reading the first North Ridge book I really wanted Fox and Del's story. But I was also really curious about Mav and Karina Halle definitely didn't disappoint. This book was so good and I couldn't put it down. I loved it even more than the first book in the series, and I really enjoyed that one! This series is shaping up to be one of my favorites from Karina yet!

John Maverick Nelson is the leader of a search and rescue team and is used to putting his life on the line for others. But when it comes to relationships and commitment, he prefers to stay away from them. He loves women, but prefers to keep it strictly casual. When he meets Riley Clarke though, he finds himself tempted for more. The only problem is that Riley is off-limits as the newest member of his team according to a no fraternization rule that could have one or both of them losing their jobs. Riley wants Maverick just as badly though, and the chemistry between them becomes harder to fight the more time they spend together.

I loved these two so much. Mav was sexy and there was so much more to him than you first see. I really liked what a good guy he was and straightforward he was. Riley was one of my favorite heroines that I have ever read. She was seriously awesome, strong and confident and unafraid to go after what she wanted. She wasn't afraid to admit that she liked sex and could have it without needing more. She wasn't afraid to risk her own life for others and work in a field that few women do. And I absolutely loved seeing her flirt with Mav and push his boundaries, knowing that he wanted her just as much. She was feisty and I just really enjoyed reading about her. These two had smoking hot chemistry and the connection between them just continued to grow the more they got to know one another and it felt very real and genuine.

Honestly, this was one of my favorite books I have read from Karina. I have loved everything I've read from her, but this book I just couldn't get enough of. I think a lot of that was that not only was the story really great, but the characters were just so much fun to read about and I felt so connected to them. They are unique and special and I didn't want their story to end. I definitely can't wait for Fox and Del's book next. This series is such that each book can be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed both books though and I would suggest reading them in order if possible, even though you don't need to. Trust me you won't want to miss out on any of these characters and this captivating world that Karina Halle has created.

ARC Review: In Too Deep by Jordan Marie

I have never read anything by Jordan Marie before, but the blurb for In Too Deep was one that called to me as soon as I read it. I love a good enemies to lovers story, so this one sounded really good. Unfortunately though, this one just didn't work for me at all and I ended up throwing in the towel at 30%.

Aden is looking to get away from Hollywood and all that comes with being a star in California. So when his friend sets him up with a hotel in a small town in Idaho, he jumps at the chance to get out. But when Aden shows up and meets his friend's cousin that owns the hotel, things get off on the wrong foot quickly. Hope does everything she can to get rid of him, but reluctantly agrees to let him stay knowing that she needs the money he offers her. But when she saves his life and says she is his wife so that the hospital will inform her on how he is, she never expects that he will believe her too!

I'll be honest here, Aden is the main reason I quit reading. This guy is an absolute jerk and what's worse is that he knows it! He is constantly saying the most horrible things to Hope and even as he does he admits to himself that he is being terrible. Yet he never apologizes and just keeps on saying and doing horrible things! I just couldn't keep going on because I just couldn't see any redeeming qualities for someone who is so burnt out on the way things are in California, yet he continues to be an asshole and act just like them. Talk about a judgmental hypocrite. I also couldn't really relate to Hope. It wasn't that I didn't like her, I just felt indifferent towards her. I wasn't feeling any chemistry between them and at 30% in I just felt like I wasn't going to believe in any kind of connection between them in the future.

Overall, this one was just a miss for me and I had to give up. I think that there are readers out there that will enjoy this one and if it sounds like one you might like you might give it a shot. For me though it just didn't work and I don't know that I will read more from this author in the future.

Feature and Giveaway: NSFW by Piper Lawson

Being bad never felt so good...

The office is full of rules. Everything is off-limits. Making a charity calendar of the sexy guys on your floor? Not allowed. Shrinking your boss' underwear when he sends it for dry-cleaning? Can't do that either.

But those things keep the natural balance. See, Avery Banks, our resident rising star, is a shark. The tall, blond, and gorgeous kind with zero patience and even less forgiveness.

Good thing I'm the Mae West of executive assistants. I live to put grown men in their place.

He wasn't supposed to find out...

Now he's made it his personal vendetta to screw me the way I screwed him. I'm at his beck and call, 24/7, for every humiliating, meaningless request.

Until we stumble on a new game. One we both want to play. One we both need to win.

And once we start...I'm not sure Avery wants to replace me.

I'm not sure I want him to.

All I want is more of this. The fire under the ice. What happens behind closed doors.

It's twisted, and so damn hot. But he's my boss. And with the company coming off a scandal even I couldn't engineer? What we're doing is strictly NSFW.

Lucky for me, Avery and I have one thing in common...

We both suck at following the rules.

ARC Review: Ruthless King by Meghan March

I am a huge fan of Meghan March and I was beyond excited when I saw this series coming out from her. I have loved everything I have read from her, but this one really intrigued me and I knew it was going to be special. It really felt unlike anything I have read before, and I think this just might be her best work yet!

I am not going to go into much detail on this story because this really just needs to be experienced. This is the story of Keira Kilgore and Lachlan Mount. Lachlan Mount is powerful, and runs New Orleans. He always gets what he wants, and what he wants is Keira. After loaning money to her family's failing distillery, he knows that he has her.

Lachlan is all alpha and super sexy. He is also almost a complete mystery! For every little clue we get as to who he is, we have so many more questions. The one thing I can tell you for sure though is that he is absolutely fascinating, and I can't wait to see more of him in the rest of this series! I am so looking forward to watching as his layers get peeled back and revealed as Meghan March continues this series. Keira was equally interesting for me. I liked her and felt connected to her, and I honestly just really enjoyed these two. Things were steamy and there was clear chemistry between Keira and Mount, and I just know that this is the tip of the iceberg and things will only get better from here.

Overall, this book was fantastic and I was captivated from start to finish! I devoured this story from the first word to the last, like I said I really do believe that this is Meghan's best work yet. This world is a bit darker and grittier than some of her past books and it is a world that I can't get enough of. After the ending here I am anxious for more! I really don't have the words to describe how much I loved this one, so the only thing I will say is that this is a must read! Ruthless King was such a great start to the Mount trilogy and I think readers are going to love this one! Trust me when I say to go into this one blind, you won't want anything to be spoiled ahead of time.

ARC Review: The Vault: A Sinfully Sexy Collection

The Vault is a collection of sexy short stories by 22 different authors. Some of these stories have cliffhangers and lead to more, and some are just meant to be quick and hot reads that can stand alone. While anthologies are usually pretty hit or miss for me, the great thing about them is that they give you a chance to read something when you are limited on time and that they also are a way to experience the work of authors that you might not be familiar with. I love getting to take a chance on new authors without feeling like if I don't like them that I am out a bunch of money and more often than not I end up discovering authors that I wouldn't have otherwise and end up loving their books.

The Vault contains the following stories:

A.D. Justice Warning
A.M. Hargrove For The Love of My Sexy Geek
Aleatha Romig Unconventional
C.A. Harms Raw
Gina Whitney Stilettos and Broken Bottles
Hilary Storm Ridin’ Dirty
Katherine Rhodes Innuendo
Kate Benson Redemption
Kathy Coopmans Parole
Katie Ashley The Plan
Liv Morris Sweet Seconds
M.C. Cerny Declan's Demand
M. Stratton In His Arms
Michelle Dare Uncuffed
MJ Fields Terzetto
Nina Levine Risk
S. Moose Author Adjusting the Deal
S.D. Hildreth Mister Prick
T.K. Leigh Inferno
Terri E. Laine Honey
Tia Louise Sundown
Toni Aleo Not The One

While I didn't love every single one of these, I am glad that I was able to take a chance on some new stories and it helped me to read some authors that I definitely will check out more from. My favorites of this were C.A. Harms, Katie Ashley, A.M. Hargrove and Tia Louise. Each of these were so good, and are by some of my favorite authors. None of them have disappointed me yet, and they definitely didn't here. While these were my favorites though, I enjoyed many of the stories and it is hard to really go into the details when there are so many stories included in the Vault. I will say that while I loved some of these, I did have some issues with a few of the stories. Some were a part of an established series and that can be tough if you are unfamiliar with it. This was especially true for me with Katherine Rhode's Innuendo. I wanted to get into it but I felt like I just didn't know the world and things were confusing for me.

I am really glad that I read this anthology though, and this is one I recommend to readers. Not only is there a lot of content here by several authors, but this is one of the better anthologies I have read before. There are several authors that I was new to here but will be checking out in the future. The Vault is definitely worth the read and I think readers are going to love this sexy collection.

ARC Review: Holding Onto Forever by Heidi McLaughlin

I feel like I have been waiting for this book since I first read the Beaumont Series by Heidi McLaughlin. I was always curious about the kids and wanted their stories, but Noah and Peyton were always my favorites. You could just tell there was something there, and I couldn't have been more excited when I found out they were getting their story written.

Peyton Powell-James and Noah Westbury both had clear paths for their futures since they were kids. They both knew that football would be a part of their lives, and they each worked hard to make that a reality. Noah is now the starting quarterback for the Portland Pioneers and has a beautiful girlfriend, while Peyton has just been given an important assignment to cover a professional game from the sidelines. But when an accident changes everything, both Peyton and Noah are forced to rethink where their lives are headed and both know it might finally be time to discuss what has always been between them.

I loved these two. It was so clear that they belonged together and that they just needed to let each other know how they really felt. Their feelings were never their problem, it really was just a matter of talking to one another and communicating things. I do feel like they were absolutely meant to be though, and I loved the strong connection that they always had. Peyton and Noah both meant so much to one another, and even if they weren't together you could tell just what the other one was to them. They had great chemistry and an undeniable bond.

Overall, it was a great story and I really loved seeing this next generation grow up and come into their own. If you have read the Beaumont series, you will love getting to see favorite characters again and how things have progressed for each of them. This book can be read as a complete standalone though, so if you haven't read those books you don't need to in order to understand this one. I will say though that for full enjoyment I would recommend reading the Beaumont series. Not only is it great, but you really get to see how everyone got to where they are and just how deep the connections between them are. I can't wait for more from Heidi McLaughlin and this is one I definitely recommend.

ARC Review: Bad Reputation by Nicole Edwards

Bad Reputation is the first book in the new Bad Boys of Sports series by Nicole Edwards. I am a huge sports romance fan, so this one sounded like it was going to be one I loved. While it had a lot of promise, unfortunately for me this one ended up just being okay.

Chase is known as the bad boy of hockey, used to playing hard both on and off the ice. No one knows that better than his best friend Cassie. He doesn't do commitment and he likes it that way. As much as he has tried not to notice his best friend Cassie though, he can't help but see her and want more. When they head to Vegas for a week, they both find themselves drawn to each other in a way they hadn't been before.

I have to admit that my main issue here was the characters. I honestly wasn't really feeling anything between these two. They lacked chemistry and I just wasn't seeing a connection beyond friendship and curiosity here. I wanted to believe that there was something more there, but I just wasn't able to. I also struggled to like Cassie. There just wasn't anything I could really relate to with her and I just didn't really feel any connection to her. I did like Chase though. He was sexy and I loved his dirty talk. I just wish I had felt something more here with these two.

My other problem here was the pacing of this story. The first half or so seemed to move slow and often times it felt like it was dragging. The second half on the other hand seemed to accelerate and felt rushed to me. It just never felt like it had a good flow to me and that made it hard to get into the story for me. I do think that Nicole Edwards is worth giving another shot though, but unfortunately this wasn't one of my favorites.
