ARC Review: The Outpost by Devney Perry

The Jamison Valley series by Devney Perry is one of my absolute favorites! It is not often that a new author comes along and just blows you away, but that is exactly what Devney Perry has done. She is a fantastic writer and has such talent for writing unique characters that are easy to relate to and well developed stories that stay with you long after you have finished. The Outpost was just as fantastic as the previous books in this series, and I highly recommend it along with all of the other Jamison Valley series books.

Sabrina couldn't miss the opportunity to write a story that would help take down a notorious crime family, but it didn't exactly go as she had planned. Needing a place to hide out, she turns to her best friend. But leaving Seattle behind for Montana didn't entirely go as planned either. Now stuck in the middle of nowhere Montana, Sabrina finds herself with Beau, a man who prefers to live a quiet and simple life. Beau had no plans to take on the protection of Sabrina, yet he always finds himself putting others first and couldn't turn his friends away when they needed his help. But the more time that Sabrina and Beau spend together, the more he realizes that he wold like to keep Sabrina for himself. But with Sabrina determined to make her way back home to the life she left behind, is there a place for him in her world or can he convince her that a life with him in Montana is worth taking a chance on?

I loved these two so much. Beau is just such a genuine guy. He was sweet and kind, understanding and patient. He always put others first and was the kind of man that you can't help but fall in love with. Sabrina was strong and smart, and I loved her as well. She was brave and I found her determination admirable. These two had such chemistry and the tension between them was sexy. I really enjoyed seeing their connection grow as well, watching them get to know one another had me unable to put this book down.

Overall, I just loved everything about this book. I am a huge fan of this world that Devney Perry has created. The characters are great, the stories are well thought out and impossible to put down. Devney Perry draws you in right away and then keeps your interest all the way through. I can't say enough about these books, they have everything I look for in a great romance read and I think fans are going to love this one. If you have yet to read anything by Devney Perry, you definitely need to check her books out. I already can't wait for the next one and I think her stories are ones that will resonate with readers of all genres.

ARC Review: An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne

This is what I would expect from a Lauren Layne Christmas Rom-Com. It has her typical style humor and gets-you-right-in-the-heart romance all at Christmas time. I’m not crazy over first person typically but I’ve always made an exception for LL because she does it so well. The characters are a hoot, Kelly is a third grade teacher who believes in astrology, and fortune telling, magic 8 balls, and that things happen for a reason, she’s also loves Christmas. This Christmas is going to a little different, she sent her parents away for their 30th wedding anniversary which is just days before Christmas, so she is going to be alone for Christmas well not alone she still has her best friend, Mark, to spend the day with. Mark and Kelly have been friends forever, Kelly has never seen Mark as boyfriend material because their zodiac signs aren’t ones that work well romantically. On Kelly’s way home for Christmas vacation a homeless woman tells Kelly that she has already meat her one true love and now Kelly has got it in her head that it’s one of her exes.

Mark is more serious, he keeps Kelly grounded and even though he thinks most of the stuff she believes in is nonsense he still stands by her, no one gets Kelly like Mark does. He understands that she is feeling lonely on Christmas and even though he’s not really a Christmas person he there for her to keep her company while she decorates the tree and drinks horrendous Christmas themed drinks. But every time she brings up her ex-list he loses it. They get into an argument and for the first time in ever the cool laid back Mark yells at Kelly. With every name that gets crossed off her list the more dismayed Kelly becomes but it’s not only that it’s the arguing with Mark; she’s so confused. She starts to think about Mark as more than her best friend and she’ not liking the jealous feelings she’s getting when his ex, Erika, is around.

Overall, the sexual tension is delicious and when it finally breaks it is steam up your glasses good. My only thing is that I have kind of a double standard when it come to the H/h, I always enjoy a good oblivious Hero, but when it comes to the Heroine being oblivious, I always find that annoying. So Kelly kind of not seeing what was so obvious got a little bit annoying, but she’s so quirky and adorable I can’t hold that against her. This is a great Christmas Romance, one I can totally see Hallmark turning into a movie.

ARC Review: Love on the Edge of Time by Julie A. Richman

I have been a fan of Julie A. Richman's since I first read her Needing Moore series. I knew I wanted to read this book after reading the blurb, and I can honestly say that I haven't read a story quite like this one before. While it reminds me a bit of the Blue Bloods series by Melissa De La Cruz, this one had several differences as well. I am a bit torn on this story though, and while it kept me on the edge of my seat, I also was left feeling as though this wasn't everything I had been hoping for so it was a bit bittersweet once I had finished.

Jesse Winslow is a bad boy rocker and Kylie Martin is a former pageant queen. Both have demons that they continue to struggle with that keep messing up their lives. When the two of them meet though, their connection is one they can't explain or fight. But the one person that might be able to help both of them also has a secret, and that is that she knows the entire truth. Dr. Claire Stoddard knows everything that could help Jesse and Kylie, but she also has done the forbidden and fallen in love with her patient Jesse. Though Kylie and Jesse search and find each other in lifetime after lifetime, Claire isn't about to let Kylie take Jesse from her yet again.

I really loved getting to see these characters and their history through the regressions. I was captivated by Kylie and Jesse and their pasts as well as the present. Their connection was undeniable and was one that nothing could stand in the way of. I loved seeing the growth and progress that each of them made here. This story was full of love and heartbreak, jealousy and history. There is so much more to this story than meets the eye, and is truly worth the read.

But if I am honest, this story was a bit hard to get into and the ending was what changed it all for me. Luckily while this one started a bit slow, it picked up and at that point I couldn't put it down. It was beautifully written and I was emotionally invested in what would happen for these characters. It wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be, with plenty of twists and turns. But what really left me wanting was the ending. I wasn't fully satisfied, and I felt like it didn't really do the story justice. I wanted closure and it didn't feel like we really got it. While I am sure that there are a lot of readers that will love this story and feel like it was exactly as it should have been, I just felt like for me it was a bit bittersweet.

ARC Review: Infamy by L.P. Maxa

I really enjoyed L.P. Maxa's Devil's Share series so I was really excited that she decided to continue writing in this world with the RiffRaff Records spin-off series. Infamy is the third book in this spin-off series, but you do not need to have read the previous books to understand this one. I would recommend reading both the Devil's Share series and the previous RiffRaff Records books for full enjoyment though if you can as they are great stories and really help you to know these characters better.

As the daughter of a rocker from Devil's Share, Landry has been determined to forge her own path. Her childhood still affects her, but now surrounded by her family with their unwavering support she is in her fifth year of surgical residency. But when her uncle asks her to come out for the night to see the band Clashing Swell, she knows she can't turn him down. She never expects to feel the instant attraction and connection she does to their wild boy drummer, Brody Frost. But with him heading out on tour soon and her not having time for anything more, they both agree to a secret fling. What happens when it starts to become more for both of them though?

I loved these two. Landry was awesome! Smart and determined, the kind of girl that would be cool to hang out with in real life. She was genuine and the kind of heroine that makes reading fun. Brody was irresistible. He is a bit of a wild one, but he quickly becomes a new man with Landry. He is sexy and charming, but he was also so sweet and had me swooning the whole way through. I loved the connection and chemistry between these two and just couldn't get enough of them. Seeing how they were with one another is something that I think readers are going to really enjoy.

Overall, this story is one of my favorites that I have read from L.P. Maxa though I have enjoyed everything I have read from her. Brody and Landry are two of my favorite characters and I just really loved their story. This is one of these feel good books that you just don't want to put down and at the end are left with a smile having really enjoyed the book from start to finish. I can't wait to read more from L.P. Maxa in the future, and I highly recommend Infamy.

ARC Review: Two Man Advantage by Toni Aleo

I thought that Two Man Advantage was a great M/M debut for author Toni Aleo. Fans of hers will enjoy this one and those that are new to her will as well. If you have read any of Toni's Assassins series, you will probably recognize some familiar faces here. But if you are new to her you don't need to worry as this is a complete standalone. I really enjoyed this story though, and this is one of my favorite books of hers to date.

Wells Lemiere and Matty Haverbrooke knew they wanted each other right from the start, and despite the reasons they should stay away from one another they found it impossible to fight what was between them. But while Wells is out and proud, Matty's family and the fact that his dad is the Commissioner of the NHL means that he can't truly be himself. So when Wells finds himself unable to stay in the closet any longer, he tells Matty that he needs an open commitment from him which Matty finds himself unable to give. So when Matty finds out after months apart that Wells is getting married to someone else, he knows that he either has to come out or say goodbye to Wells forever.

I loved these two so much. I just couldn't get enough of them and their love was so clear and genuine. These two loved each other so much and yet both of them had some issues to deal with. The connection between them though was something that I never once questioned. My heart broke for both of them and things that they each faced, but the fact that they found a love and bond so pure and true that couldn't be broken was something that I loved reading about. The chemistry between them was off the charts, but it was so much more than that and these two truly belonged together.

Overall, I loved this book. It was sweet and sexy, heartbreaking and emotional. It really delivered everything that I hope for in a great romance story and I think that Toni Aleo did a great job for her first M/M novel. I really hope that we get to see more M/M from her as I think that she did just as great of a job here as she does with everything else that I have read from her. I loved these characters and their journey, and I felt like I was right there with them through all the ups and downs and growth that each of them showed. I think this one is definitely worth the read and I can't wait for more.

ARC Review: Andre by Sybil Bartel

Andre is the third book in the Uncompromising series by Sybil Bartel. This is a standalone story though, so don't worry about starting here if you haven't read the previous books in the series. While this was my first book of this series, I had no problems understanding anything. I liked this world that Sybil has created. It is a bit dark and gritty with the alphas that she is known for. While there was a lot to like her though, I did have a few issues with this story.

Andre is a former Marine that has now transitioned to civilian life and owns his own security firm. He is the best in the business, but all of that could come to an end when he comes face to face with Kendall Reed. What starts as an instant attraction between them quickly turns to more, though Andre never suspects who Kendall really is. But once he sees the mark on her back he knows that not only is she in danger, but that everything about his life has changed as well. Can Andre find a way to keep Kendall and himself safe?

I loved Andre. He was smart and sexy and all alpha. But I loved that he was caring and kind as well. He was a great guy and he was 100% devoted to Kendall, even knowing the risks that came along with that. I will say that things seemed to happen very quick for these two, especially when it came to what Andre was willing to do for her but I still loved him and believed that his actions were genuine. My biggest problem with this story was actually Kendall. She got on my nerves so much and unfortunately that never changed. I kept waiting for the moment when the switch would flip, but it never did. She remained the same throughout the entire story, no matter how much those around her were willing to sacrifice for her. She was selfish and only seemed to think of herself. While she had been through a lot, that only went so far to justify her actions and I just couldn't bring myself to like her.

Overall, I liked this world that Sybil has created and with the exception of Kendall, I liked the characters. Andre was great and I really liked Hero as well. I am excited to get to know him better, especially after the revelation at the end of this story. I really wish that I had been able to come around when it came to Kendall though as I wanted to love this one but wasn't able to. I do think that this was a good story though, and I enjoyed seeing how everything would play out. While I didn't like Kendall, I am very curious to read more in this world and would go back and read the previous books as well. I think that there are a lot of readers that will enjoy this one, and I urge you to give this one a shot if you think it sounds like one you might like.

ARC Review: He Loves Me...KNOT by RC Boldt

He Loves Me...KNOT is my first book by RC Boldt, and I absolutely loved it! I couldn't put this book down and ended up staying up way past my bedtime so that I could read it in one sitting. It was such a great story, and I can't wait to read more from RC Boldt after finishing this book. He Loves Me...KNOT is a second chance romance, which happens to be a favorite trope of mine, but honestly I just loved everything about this one.

Emma Jane and Knox thought that they would spend forever together, but when Emma Jane finds out that nothing is as it seemed with Know, she runs. Now eight years later, she is successful and her life is finally starting to be everything she dreamed of. But when Knox returns and is now standing in the way of her future with the company she has worked so hard for, she quickly realizes that things are no longer in the past and she could lose everything. Worse yet is that she also realizes that her feelings for Knox have never fully gone away either despite everything that happened.

I loved these two. I felt the chemistry and connection between them and it was clear that it had never gone away for either of them. Both of these characters had made mistakes, and with a few different choices things could have been so different. I wished that they had talked to each other more, but they had both been acting on emotion and insecurities and it was easy to see how they each reacted the way they did. I was glad that they were also able to see that the connection between though was still real and very present, because what they had was special and not something that is easily found. I really believed that Emma Jane and Knox were meant to be, and I loved seeing them get to know one another again, while still knowing each other better than anyone else did.

I also have to say that I loved Emma Jane's friendship with Becket! He stole the show here at times, and I couldn't have loved him more. As much as I loved Emma Jane and Knox and their scenes together, I couldn't get enough of Becket's scenes! I cannot wait for his story, and I was so happy to see at the end of this one that RC Boldt is writing a book for him. This cast of characters was so much fun to read about, and I can't even begin to say how fun this one was. The characters were devoted to each other and the love and loyalty present here were unlike anything I have read before. I highly recommend this one!
