Guest Post with Author Sara Brookes and Giveway

Today I would like to welcome author Sara Brookes to RFTC. Sara is currently on tour promoting her book Chasing Sin and has stopped by to chat. Before I give the floor over to Sara lets get to know her a bit.

Sara Brookes is an award-winning author who has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. Despite all this, she is a romantic at heart and is always a sucker for an excellent love story. Born and bred in Virginia, Sara still lives there with her husband and daughter. The entire family is owned by two cats, Galahad and Loki, who graciously allow the family to cater to their every desire.
Places to find Sara:

I love a good anti-hero. To most people that may not come as a shock. Especially because I tend to write that kind of hero—especially in my sci-fi/futuristic and urban fantasy romances. And I love to pair an anti-hero up with a strong-willed heroine that can give him a run for his money. In fact, I think that’s my absolute favorite thing about writing an anti-hero. He’s always thinking he has one over on her only to find out she’s had a leg up on him all along.

The list of anti-heroes is pretty wide (and I’m limiting this to movies for right now): Bruce Wayne/Batman, Donnie Darko, Jack Sparrow, Jason Bourne, Hellboy, Cool Hand Luke, Wolverine, and Rambo just to name a few.

Probably two of my favorite anti-heroes are Richard Riddick (from Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick) and Han Solo (from early (later?) Star Wars movies). In Riddick’s case, he’s an escaped prisoner on the run and every time he turns around, he’s saving someone. And by the end of Chronicles of Riddick, he’s in charge of A LOT of people. In Han’s case, he…well, what else—a scoundrel! Everyone pretty much knows Han’s story and he’s probably the biggest anti-hero of them all.

Anti-heroes aren’t as prevalent in my contemporaries, such as Chasing Sin. But that’s doesn’t mean touching of that kind of personality isn’t prevalent. The two heroes, Snyder and Tripp, of Chasing Sin don’t mind breaking the law in the name of science. They have bigger than life personalities who live for the rush of adrenaline that comes with facing down deadly storms.

Do you have any favorite anti-heroes and if so, why do you like them?

Every spring, Kate risks her life chasing violent storms. Tired of watching her take unnecessary chances, two of her closest friends offer a different thrill. Devoted lovers Snyder and Tripp don’t just share a passion for nature’s fury; they long to have the fearless woman between them.

Though she is reluctant, she also knows the proposition is too irresistible to refuse. Her acceptance leads to an explosive night of no-holes-barred sex for the threesome. However, when morning dawns, she realizes this type of unusual relationship isn’t one she belongs in.

Despite her best efforts to keep the men at arm’s length, Kate finds herself facing down the storm of the century with them at her side. With Mother Nature intruding, the trio discovers shelter in each other’s arms. With the hurricane raging outside and passion raging inside, everything is at stake.

Places to Purchase:

“I spent so many summer’s baking to a crisp right on that very beach. It’s hard to let that kind of thing go.”

“A teenage Kate in a bikini. I would’ve liked to have seen that.”

“I wasn’t much. Pretty gangly as a kid. No boobs to speak of.”

Tripp scooted closer, wrapping his arms around her as he pulled her against him. “But yet you’ve blossomed into the gorgeous woman you are today.”

He felt so good against her. So right and someone she could get very used to getting lost in. It was dangerous to feel so comfortable here in his arms, but a few minutes couldn’t hurt, right?

She buried her nose in his chest, inhaling the familiar scent of his soap that mixed with the sharp salt air from the water. “I don’t deserve you two.”

“Bullshit, you have every right to be with us.”

Those soft words were a weight in her chest, and despite the pain it caused, she pulled away from the warmth of his body. He muttered a protest as she hopped off the railing. She stopped after opening the door and glanced back over her shoulder.

He looked so damn handsome sitting there with the panoramic view of the beach spread out behind him. Disappointment darkened his gaze and she fought to find the courage necessary to walk away.

A gust of wind blew through the porch, whistling against the aging planks. The sound reminded her of the violent storm that had gotten her into this predicament in the first place.

Instead of courage, that reminder gave her the strength to do what she had to.

“I can’t, I’m sorry.”

  4. Well, you subject today falls right into a question I have just been dying to ask. Have you ever written a story with a villain who later demanded to be the hero in his own book? If so, how did it turn out? If not, do you think you ever will?

  6. I'm not sure who my favorite anti-hero is, but I do like if there is a sequel to the book and all of a sudden that person becomes a hero.

  7. I would agree with kerry and say eric from true blood. Also like charles from patricia briggs alpha 7 omega series. Love bad boys too. Love them because they they also have that strong woman at their back. They are also great because they try so hard to not be the hero and in the end they are.
What a great giveaway. Thanks for the chance to win.

    1. I love that series from Patrica. I was sad to see that it's going to be a while until the next one, but I have no doubt it will totally be worth the wait.

  8. My favorite is Lucky from Eden Winters' DIVERSION, because he breaks so many conventions of romance (including m/m romance). He's a real smart-aleck, deeply flawed, not handsome, and usually lets his vices have the upper hand. At the same time, he's brilliant at his job, loyal to those important to him, and strangely sexy because of his wit and raging libido. You root for him in spite of it all.

  10. Adair from Alma Katsu's The Taker trilogy...he is an ogre, evil, but he is so charmingly wicked and sexy. He may not be able to redeem himself (although he is trying really hard in The Reckoning), but I hope he will end up with Lanore in the next installment. They belong together.

  11. Hmm the first thing that comes to mind is True Blood for me. Eric is definitely an anti-hero because does he ever do anything that doesn't benefit him in some way?

  14. I don't have a favorite anti-hero, I really like that they can screw things up for the hero at the drop of a hat. It makes the hero work harder to overcome the hardships to get to the happy ever after.

  15. Hi Sara,
thank you for the chance at such a great giveaway. i love the cover, it's beautiful and the book sounds wonderful.

i think to top my list it would have to be Voldemort, i mean, just how anti-hero can you get before you actually become the devil? LOL! after that it would be the psychos from Iris Johanson's Eve Duncan series. with of course the main psycho that orchestrated it all being the worst.

if you haven't read her series you should, it's fantastic.
