First, a big thank you to RFTC for welcoming me to her blog! My name is Gina Hummer and I am the author of Loving David. Loving David is the story of Charlotte Taylor and David King. David is a well known British actor in his early 30’s, who is trying to enjoy a quiet and private vacation in Lake Arrowhead, California, away from his hectic life in Los Angeles. When a photographer and fans recognize him walking down the street, David is forced to quickly hide in the most convenient place he can find at the time… the back floorboard of Charlotte Taylor’s Jeep.

Charlotte is a novelist in her mid 40’s and is on her way to a writers retreat with her divorced and widowed fellow writer girlfriends. Before David has the chance to escape his hiding place, Charlotte hops in her car after a quick errand and takes off down the highway to the cabin retreat. While driving, she takes a look in her rearview mirror and sees a beautiful pair of eyes staring back at her. After nearly crashing her Jeep and macing her intruder, she realizes who he is and tries to calm down. After hearing David’s plight, Charlotte offers him a hiding place with her friends at the retreat and from there the impossible happens: David and Charlotte take steps toward romance and a relationship blooms. This is not another Hollywood story with celebrity focus, David’s celebrity status is rarely touched, the focus is the relationship of both of the main characters and the obstacles they face due to the fact that they come from completely different worlds (and of course the age difference)

During the story, Charlotte finds herself taking risks she never thought she would take. Loving David is my debut novel, and being in my mid-forties as well… I am extremely happy I took the risk of writing for the first time at my age. I got the idea for the book after dreaming of a woman who unknowingly picks up an actor on her way to her cabin by the lake. I dream weird stuff all the time believe me and when I have a good one, I sit up and write it down in a notebook I keep on my nightstand. After having the same dream over and over again about these two people, I decided to turn it into a story. Two years later (I have a husband, two daughters and two step daughters and a full time job so I got off task every now and then.) my book Loving David was born.

The best part of this whole experience is the reaction I get from readers. It amazes me how touched they are once they finish. I also love hearing who they ‘picture’ in their minds as David. I've heard Ryan Gosling, Jake Gylenhall, Robert Pattinson and several others. I do not tell anyone who I pictured because I like the fact that people are having fun with their own ‘David’ image. I invite you to check out Goodreads for reviews and comments and not only hope you get a chance to read my book, but enjoy it as well.

Thanks!
Gina

Want to WIN a copy of Loving David? Please comment on this post answering the following question: Who is your celebrity crush?

What would you do if someone like Ryan Reynolds or Robert Pattinson jumped into your car?

That’s what happens to Charlotte when out of nowhere, gorgeous movie star David King becomes her surprise passenger. Not recognizing him at first, the startled Charlotte’s initial impulse is to mace him. But once she realizes who he is and that he’s making an escape from a crowd of zealous fans, she puts away her pepper spray and thinks what a great story she’ll have to tell her girlfriends!

From there, the impossible happens: the two take tentative steps toward romance, and a relationship blooms. But Charlotte is a behind-the-scenes romance writer, and David is an in-the-spotlight and in-the-tabloids celebrity. Could it ever work?

Charlotte’s defenses drop one by one. Their age difference doesn’t really matter, and though their realities are worlds apart, they begin to become one. Just when everything seems to be leading to a storybook ending, David’s past intrudes, and Charlotte has to wonder if his romance with fellow star Olivia Hudson really is over.

This book has plenty of humor, sex, romance and emotion. A touching read from beginning to end.

  1. Wow! Congratulations on your first book. It sounds like a fun read! If I could only have one celebrity crush I would have to say Adam Lavine (lead singer of Maroon 5). He has the moves like Jagger and can sing! LOL! I just adore him.

  2. Congratulations on taking that huge leap to write your novel. The plot sounds quite intriguing and I'm sure it will be a delighted bool to read. I am going to give away my age with this admission, but when I was a young teen, I had the biggest crush on Tony Dow who played on the show, Leave it to Beaver. He was so cute!

All the best with your success.

  3. I've always had a tremendous crush on Bono. I loved U2's music and he's a person that has used his fame to do so much good and bring attention to forgotten corners of the world. I will definitely be checking this book out - famous actor hero and older woman/younger man are two of my favorite tropes.
