Guest Post with Author Carla Caruso

Today I would like to welcome author Carla Caruso to RFTC. Carla is currently on tour promoting her book Cityglitter and she has stopped by to chat. Please give Carla a warm welcome.

Carla Caruso was born in Adelaide, grew up amid a boisterous extended Italian family – yet somehow managed to become a bookworm...

Carla always wanted to be a novelist, annoying the kindergarten teachers by dictating long, detailed stories to them. It just took her a while to realise her childhood dream - journalism seemed a more practical course. Her media career has included stints as a newspaper and magazine journalist, government PR and fashion stylist. These days, she works as a freelance journalist and copywriter. She began seriously writing fiction three years ago when she went freelance full-time.

The romance genre appeals as she is a sucker for rom-coms (especially if Channing Tatum is in the mix) and likes to think her Italian ancestry means she lives with passion. Hobbies include watching trashy TV shows, fashion (her mum named her after Carla Zampatti!), astrology and running. She lives in Adelaide.

Famous characters with a touch of magic by Cityglitter author Carla Caruso

Many people love a story with a touch of magic – whether it is in book or film. Me included!

Hence, my new book, Cityglitter, centres on a posse of glam fairies, known as ‘cityglitters’. You can spot this variety of fairy in your midst because they can’t help from wearing a splash of pink amid their outfits, they look like Victoria’s Secret Angels but have actual wings (hidden from human eyes), and they naturally smell like perfume Mariah Carey would put her name to.

Here’s a list of famous magical characters that have enchanted me over the years… Do you have a favourite?
  • Charmed: In this nineties/noughties TV series, three sisters discover they’re the descendants of a line of female witches. Each has a special ability: stopping time, moving objects and seeing the future... And it really was quite magical when Shannen Doherty’s character vanished from the small screen and Rose McGowan’s appeared!
  • Eastwick: I was a big fan of this TV series (starring Lindsay Price and Rebecca Romijn), but it only lasted one season – sob. Of course, it was a spin-off of the eighties novel-turned-film, The Witches of Eastwick – also a firm fave. In the flick, three single women in a picturesque village (aka Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer) have their wishes granted – at a cost – when a mysterious, flamboyant fellow arrives on the scene.
  • Bewitched: Samantha is the witch married to an ordinary man who can’t resist using her magic powers to solve the probs her family faces – all without ruffling a strand of her perfectly coiffured hair, naturally. Redhead mum Endora is also a cool character. (Nicole Kidman did a silver screen version of the sixties TV series, too.)
  • I Dream of Jeannie: This genie makes harem pants look seriously cool. She turns the life of an American astronaut upside down when he stumbles upon her genie bottle.
  • Sabrina, the Teenage Witch: When a 16-year-old high school student (played by Melissa Joan Hart) finds out she’s a witch, it spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. (Gotta love her aunts’ talking cat, Salem!)
  • Splash: In this eighties flick, a guy (Tom Hanks) is reunited with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) who saved him from drowning as a boy. He falls in love not knowing who/what she is, but definitely realizing something’s, er, fishy!

Cityglitter by Carla Caruso (Destiny Romance) is about a gorgeous fairy living a glam life in the big city, who does the one thing she promised herself she’d never do: fall in love with a human. www.destinyromance.com

Christelle is like any other 20-something living in Sydney - except for one huge secret. She enjoys cocktails with girlfriends, luxury brand launches, gossip and shopping. For an added touch of spice, there's also the sizzling connection with her new boss, the gorgeous Jasper.

Then Christelle's younger sister, the hapless and naïve Trixie Fifi Panache, arrives unannounced, and things begin to fall apart. Not only does Christelle have to deal with her sister's exploits and embarrassing mistakes, but she also has to live with the fear that her escapades will reveal the truth: Christelle and Trixie are half fairy, half human, and hidden beneath their clothes are a pair of gorgeous wings. To make matters worse, Christelle has fallen for Jasper, but knows that taking the relationship any further threatens exposure. And no love could survive that, could it?

Cityglitter is a charming, magical romance that leaves in its wake a glitter of fairy dust. With inner-city fabulousness and sophistication, this fun celebration of love will add more than a touch of sparkle to your life.
