Guest Post with Author Cheryl Holt and Giveaway

Today I am happy to welcome back to RFTC author, Cheryl Holt. Cheryl is celebrating the release of her newest book Love's Price and has stopped by to share chat. Please give Cheryl a warm welcome.

CHERYL HOLT is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over thirty novels.

She’s also a lawyer and mom, and at age forty, with two babies at home, she started a new career as a commercial fiction writer. She’d hoped to be a suspense novelist, but couldn’t sell any of her manuscripts, so she ended up taking a detour into romance where she was stunned to discover that she has a knack for writing some of the world’s greatest love stories.

Her books have been released to wide acclaim, and she has won or been nominated for many national awards. She is particularly proud to have been named “Best Storyteller of the Year” by the trade magazine Romantic Times BOOK Reviews.

She lives and writes in Hollywood, California, and she loves to hear from fans.

Places to visit Cheryl:

The fun and excitement continue this month with the release of LOVE'S PRICE, Book #2 in my Lord Trent trilogy. And I'm delighted to announce that my fans have made it #1 on the Amazon Historical Romance List! The novel is a fast-paced, thrilling ride, filled with my usual great characters, intricate plotlines, and infuriating villains. And there's the added bonus of two brothers falling for twin sisters—a double love story that's sexy and unforgettable.

The linking premise in the three novels has to do with Charles Sinclair, the Earl of Trent. He is England's most notorious roué, and over the decades he's sired many illegitimate children. His oldest bastard son, Phillip, is on a quest to find his lost half-siblings and build a family with them. The three books tell the stories of four of Lord Trent's cast-off children on their rocky road to happily ever after.

The heroes in LOVE'S PRICE are James Harcourt, Earl of Westwood, and his brother, Tristan. They fall in love with twins, Helen and Harriet Sinclair Stewart. The twins are two of Lord Trent's illegitimate children, and because of their illicit parentage, their lives have been extremely difficult. When they meet James and Tristan, sparks fly and lust blooms—but it takes the two brothers quite awhile to discover that they're madly in love, too. Twin sister Harriet is one of my all-time favorite characters out of all the ones I've ever created. You won't believe the jam in which she lands herself.

The three books—LOVE'S PROMISE, LOVE'S PRICE, and LOVE'S PERIL—are being released back to back in May, June, and July 2013. They will all be available as print books and e-books. LOVE'S PROMISE and LOVE'S PRICE are out now, with LOVE'S PERIL coming on July 1st. They're a great way to lounge at the beach on your summer vacation, and I hope you'll check them out. Thanks to everyone for your interest in me and my “Lord Trent” trilogy! I'm grateful.

CHERYL HOLT dazzles readers once again with another tale of soaring romance and breathtaking drama as she delivers the second novel in her critically-acclaimed `Lord Trent' trilogy.

Helen Stewart never understood why—as a tiny girl—she and her twin sister Harriet were sent away to boarding school and never allowed home for holidays. At age sixteen, they were shocked to discover that they are the illegitimate daughters of the notorious rogue, Charles Sinclair. Cast out by their relatives, they moved to London, and Helen has made a life for herself as a lady's companion. In her line of employment, she must maintain a stellar reputation, but she's exhausted by the fussy whims of the debutantes she's forced to chaperone. She'd give anything to change her fate.

James Harcourt, Earl of Westwood, is in a bind. After his father died, he learned that his estates were bankrupt. He gambles to replenish his coffers so he's living a dissolute bachelor's life. When his female ward arrives unexpectedly for an extended visit, he must protect her from scandal by hiring a lady's companion. When pretty, alluring Helen interviews for the position, he's instantly smitten. She possesses the qualifications to fill a much more intimate role.

He shocks her by suggesting she become his mistress, and when his offer is rebuffed, he begins a cunning seduction, aimed at wearing her down. Helen can't resist the temptation he offers, but she doesn't have the sophistication to survive in his world. And as James immerses them in a dangerous spiral of pleasure and excitement, he proves that he is determined to have her at any cost…

  4. I love historical romances, so this series sounds great! Thanks for the giveaway chance! Did you always like writing, even though you went the lawyer route for your first career? And, how has the change worked for you with young kids at home?

    1. Hi Marcy. I started writing as a financial decision. I didn't ever have a huge "drive" to write novels. I had two babies back to back, so suddenly I was out of the work force and trying to find a way to earn an income at home. There aren't many options for women to make money at home. I chose to write novels, but it took me years of writing and writing to get good enough where a NY publisher noticed me and bought a book from me.

My kids aren't little anymore--the last one just graduated from high school. So I worked at home all the years they were growing up. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it was very convenient to be home. I could rearrange my schedule to fit theirs, and if they were sick and had to be home from school, I didn't have to ask my boss for a day off. But being a novelist is a very isolating existence. I'm home alone all the time. There is a lot of "social" interaction that happens in the workplace. So I never made the work friends or had the office parties or things like that that come with having a job. And novelists don't make much money, so my family would have been better off financially if I'd had a "real" job as a lawyer over the years. But then, I'd have been a stressed-out mess! So it's a mixed bag. I like working for myself and on my own, but then, I'm very self-motivated. It's not a job/career that everyone could do.

  5. Twins for twins, absolutely delicious. I haven't read a really good twins book since Catherine Coulter's Holbrook series. Yay! Something to look forward to.

  18. Thanks so much to everyone who took time to post a comment today. I'm delighted to see I've connected with so many readers who haven't tried my books yet. I hope you will! I've written 35 books now, and my 36th one is coming this winter. For years, I was hailed as "The Queen" of Erotic Romance--although I've backed away from some of the erotic temperature. It's gotten a little to hot for me the past few years. But I write some of the most uber-macho, alpha heroes in fiction today. In my press kit, it says "Before 50 Shades of Gray" there was Cheryl Holt. My heroes are sexy and yummy, written as no other writer can do it.

Reviewers also call me the "International Queen of Villains" because I write some of the most obsessed villains in fiction, and it really keeps readers turning the pages to see what will happen.

My long-time fans would tell you that their favorite books of mine are COMPLETE ABANDON and LOVE LESSONS. I would probably pick the three "Lord Trent" books that are out right now. And Harriet, one of the twins in LOVE'S PRICE, is my favorite all-time character out of all the ones I've created. You won't believe the jam she gets herself into!

LOVE'S PRICE recently went to #1 on the Amazon Historical Romance list. So I sending out a big THANK YOU to all my readers who bought a copy. I'm always so grateful. To all the new folks who posted comments today, and to those long-time readers who've followed me for years, I hope you'll check out the three books in my 'Lord Trent' trilogy. They're so fun, and I released them back to back so you wouldn't have to wait months (or years!) for the next installment. You can read the entire story all at once.

Thanks again to everyone who posted today. Thank you for your interest in me and my books. And thank you to Danielle for inviting me to appear here today. I'm grateful to everyone!
