Romance is Bliss Event with Jenna Rutland

Meet Bliss author, Jenna Rutland.

Jenna Rutland lives in a small Michigan community with her husband, son, and senior cat. While her days are spent working as a medical transcriptionist, her nights are filled writing contemporary romance—stories of love, laughter and happily ever after. Guess which one is more fun?

She is a member of RWA and her local group, Maumee Valley RWA. After several years on the board, she now chairs the MVRWA annual Brainstorming weekend as well as acts as food coordinator for several other events.

Jenna enjoys spending time with her family and has recently been given the awesome title of grandmother! She also gardens and loves the challenge of a new recipe.

Places to find Jenna:

Hello, everyone! Thanks for joining me for the Romance is Bliss event. Dani is incredible to give us this great occasion to share our books with you.

I’ve loved reading romance novels as far back as I can remember. My friends and I would devour everything we could get our hands on, then switch books with each other. There were quite a few times when I felt we’d read everything in the library! I’ve also been a big daydreamer, my imagination conjuring up heroes and heroines, putting them in different situations and creating their happy ever afters.

About ten years ago, I thought I’d try my hand at writing a book and let the characters roaming around in my head have a chance to tell their tale. There was no choice to be made—romance was the only genre I was interested in creating. I spent almost two years reading every type of romance I could find at the library—paranormal, historical, single title and category. I hadn’t read category in many years and was thrilled at the great stories I read. I was hooked on contemporary category.

I believe that everyone can relate to a romance story. There are many different types of love with different dynamics with each individual couple. I love creating the situations where the hero and heroine meet, and peek in their heads to learn what they think about each other. I love to write (and read) about how they fight their growing feelings for each other, even though I know in the end they’ll be together. And, sigh, that first kiss. That split second where they hold their breath in anticipation. Waiting, hoping for that first brush of lips, only to discover that what they’re feeling is unique to that special person.

What it is that I love about romance? Everything!!

How about you? What do you love about reading romance?

His temptation. Her secret. Their summer.

Dani Sullivan has come to Lake Bliss to write her latest cookbook and take a breather. After the year she’s had, she deserves a summer retreat to reevaluate priorities and make peace with past decisions. But from the moment single dad and sheriff Matt Reagan shows up, she has a hard time convincing herself that a life away from Lake Bliss could beat the life she might have here.

Recently divorced Matt is ready for a new relationship, but he doesn’t want short-term—his son needs permanence, and so does Matt’s heart. Unfortunately, it’s the smart-mouthed and sinfully sexy Ms. Sullivan who catches his eye. But when Matt learns Dani’s secrets, will he still want her to stay? Or will her chance for love last just for the summer?

  1. in romance i want hope and happy ending ( all that with honesty, loyalty etc) so i'm quite selective in my choice of romance books but a book with no romance at all even subtle isn't really for me either

  2. I agree! While I read the occasional mystery, I'm much happier reading one with romance in it. Thanks for sharing!

  3. The happy ending! I love coming away from a story feeling happy.

  4. I love the escapism that romance novels provide. I also love to read other genres, but too much of murder mysteries and non-fiction self-help books tend to start to get me down. It's like watching too much of the news on tv; when you watch too much of it, it starts to bring you down. Romance provides my much needed HEA so I don't feel so down about humanity. I love my HEAs!

  5. Most definitely the sure-thing HEA! It takes away some of the stress!
