ARC Review: Elude by Rachel Van Dyken

Elude is the sixth book in the Eagle Elite Series by Rachel Van Dyken. This book is an interconnected standalone, but I would really recommend reading this series in order. These books are fantastic, and this series is quite possibly my favorite series ever. Rachel Van Dyken has written such a unique and different world, and I find myself loving all these characters flaws and all. If you haven't read any of this series yet, you are definitely missing out. 

I don't really want to say too much of what this book is about, so as not to give it away. But this is Sergio and Andi's book. Sergio was forced to marry Andi, who was dying, in order to protect her. Before their wedding Sergio offers to kill her, and Andi declines. But after they are married, things quickly change and Sergio vows to protect her with his life. Sergio and Andi are some of my favorite characters of this series after reading this book, and that really surprised me. Andi was so inspiring, and I couldn't help but really like her. She was so positive and loving, kind and funny. She was so perfect for Sergio, and I really enjoyed seeing them together. I wasn't too sure about Sergio before this book, but seeing everything that he did and went through here, he completely won me over. He was so much more than what we had seen of him previously, and this book really was a journey for him. 

Overall, this was another fantastic book in this series and Rachel Van Dyken continues to prove why this series is one of my all time favorites. These books are must reads! I cannot explain enough why you need to read these books if you haven't already, but trust me when I tell you that I haven't been disappointed a single time. This book was beautiful and sad, and I definitely cried a ton. (So make sure you have some tissues handy!) But it was a story about facing death and living your life, beyond just surviving and breathing. I loved every bit of Elude, tears and all. It was great to see familiar faces! These characters are so hard to let go of at the end of each book, so it is always nice to get more of them! They are truly unique, and I love that they aren't your typical cookie-cutter type of characters. I honestly cannot wait for more in this series, and after reading the prologue of the next book I am already stalking the internet for information!

ARC Review: Simmering Ice by Veronica Forand and Susan Scott Shelley

Simmering Ice is the second book in the Atlantic City Hustlers Series by Veronica Forand and Susan Scott Shelley. This book can be read as a standalone though and the characters are interconnected. This novella was short and sweet and I really enjoyed it. It is my first book by either of these authors, but I am definitely looking forward to more from them and this series. 

Annie Davidson hasn't been lucky in love and she hasn't been looking for someone after breaking up with her cheating ex. But when she meets star hockey player Alec O'Meara, she decides it might be time for her to get back out there. Alec lost his wife to cancer and hasn't been able to entertain the thought of anyone since. But with Annie he finds himself finally considering a relationship. But with Annie's insecurities and Alec's painful loss, can they have a chance at a future together? 

I liked these two a lot. They were great for each other, and I really liked them together. Alec and Annie had a lot of fun together and got along great right from the start. I loved how they both were with the kids that Annie worked with, and Alec could not have been a better guy. These two had a great connection and chemistry and I really enjoyed seeing them get to know one another. Their relationship was so natural, and I felt invested in them right away. 

If you are looking for a short and sweet contemporary read, this is definitely one you will want to check out. Being a hockey fan, I really enjoyed this book. I think this is one of those books that sports fans and non-fans alike will enjoy though, and I can't wait to read more from these two authors.

ARC Review: Playing with Fire by Lexi Ryan

Playing with Fire is the first book in Lexi Ryan's new Mended Hearts Series, which features characters from New Hope. If you are a fan of Lexi Ryan's, you will recognize many familiar faces here. The Mended Hearts series books can each stand on their own, but the characters are interconnected and are best when read in order for full enjoyment. It is not necessary to have read any of the previous books to understand Playing with Fire, but if you are going to read any of the books I would recommend at least reading the Here and Now series since Max plays such a huge part in those books. If you haven't read those books though, beware of spoilers for those books below. 

Dr. Phoenix Reid doesn't let many others close, and she definitely doesn't tell them about her past. She prefers to keep things private, but one night with Max Hallowell changes everything. She thought that she could keep things to one night of pleasure, but Max doesn't seem to be giving up. He wants Nix, and is willing to give her all the time that she needs. But Nix knows that she needs to keep away from Max in order to keep him and his daughter safe. But what happens when she starts to let Max in, and he is determined to help her even after learning everything? Can they find a way to make sure that Nix is safe and have a chance at a future together, or will everything go up in flames?

I really loved Max in the previous books, and I really felt badly for him. I always thought that Hannah needed to be with Nate, but I couldn't help but fall in love with Max. He had made some huge mistakes, but he was a great guy that gave so much of himself to others. My heart broke for him when he lost everything, but I was glad that he was able to focus on the positive in his life and I thought that he was a great dad to Claire. That was even more evident here, and he was so adorable with her and with everything he did for her. But I really liked him with Nix. He was every bit the good guy we have come to know and love, but he was also so supportive. I loved that he didn't judge her or give up on her. Nix did annoy me a bit in this book if I am honest. While I understood where she was coming from once all was revealed, her hot and cold act got old here. I was ready for it to be over before it was, and I wanted her to wake up and see just what she was at risk of losing with Max. They were so good for one another, and I wanted her to see that sooner than she did. 

Overall, this was a good story though and I really liked how everything turned out. I love Max, and it was great to finally see him find some happiness! I was shocked when their connection first started to happen in previous books, because I never saw it coming. But throughout this book it become so clear how perfect they were for one another. I loved seeing familiar faces, and it was really great that they were all so supportive of Nix and Max together, because there very easily could have been some drama there with everyone's intertwined pasts. I am looking forward to more in this series though, and I cannot wait to get Cade's story next!
