Gods & Goddess Week: Marne Ann Kirk and Giveaway

This entire week is dedicated to all those wonderful books that feature Gods & Goddesses as the main characters. We have great interviews and some awesome giveaways through out the week so make sure to check back each day with Stitch Read Cook and Ramblings from this Chick for all the fun! Today we have Marne Ann Kirk visiting.

Marne Ann Kirk grew up wild, running and exploring the vast high deserts and mountains of Idaho, Montana, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado with her family as a child. She loved making up stories and, well, lied about just about everything. Thankfully, she grew out of the lying stage...now she calls it story-telling.

If she wasn't making her own adventures, she was reading. Life, and the need to eat, got in the way of writing for a time; but in 2002, Marne Ann quit the day job, became a full-time, at-home mom, and began writing for money...

She's earned about $75.00 since 2002. Thank God for great, fully supportive husbands!

And she cannot resist strong, sexy heroes...

Marne Ann has a wonderful husband (her own strong, sexy hero) who keeps her laughing, six amazing kids and now two fantabulous grandsons who rock her world and keep her on her toes. She has a Shih-Tzu, Socrates, who keeps her lap warm when she writes, and two other dogs (her kids' dogs, actually) to drive her nutty. And a cat with one tooth who keeps the mice at bay outside. She loves to write. She loves the mountains, but in a perfect world she would spend a few months a year on the beach. Preferably in Mexico or Jamaica.

Places to find Marne Ann:

What inspired you to write about Gods & Goddesses?
I love all different kinds of mythologies, and find their differences and similarities fascinating. When I was a little girl and watched Clash of the Titans...I was hooked on the Greek stories of the heroes, the Gods, and the Goddesses. It wasn't until college, though, when I took some mythology and religion in literature classes that I learned there was so much more, so much I didn't know about religions across the world and how they shaped societies, how they evolved... Well, they say write what you know or what you'd like to know about. I like to learn about, and then play with Gods and Goddesses.

What 2 authors are you dying to write an anthology with?
Kresley Cole and Christine Feehan. They are both amazing authors.

Quick & Easy:
Day or Night? Day
Love at First Sight or Second Chances? Love at First Sight
Weres or Vamps? Either. They're both hot, if done right...
Paperbacks or Ebooks? Paperback for the keepers.
Past, Present or Future? Present
Reading or Writing? Writing
Coffee or Tea? Coffee
Plotter or Panster? Plotter
Reality or Fiction? Fiction
Laptop or Desktop? Laptop
Angel or Demon? Demon
Authors Choice: Ask the readers something!
I can read any paranormal, so long as the story is good. It doesn't matter to me if it's a demon, angel, god, creature, vampire, human...To me, saying the vampire has been done to death is like saying the human has been done to death. Likewise, I enjoy a fantasy romance as much as I enjoy a paranormal romance (which kind of explains why I write both genres, right?) But my question to the reader is this... what draws you to a new author? What makes an author stand out for you, makes you want to initially take that chance with a new author? And if you get hooked with an author, are you willing to venture into areas you don't usually read, or do you simply want more of the genre you like? (I hope I'm making sense, lol. I do appreciate your answers so much.)

Now, for the characters...

If you could take your partner/spouse anywhere in our world or yours
where would it be?
Merric: I would take Teagan to my world, where she rightfully belongs, the land of the Tuatha de Danaan, the Goddess Danu's realm. Teagan still resists the idea of leaving the human realm, but I'll convince her.

What would your partner/spouse say is your biggest weakness?
Teagan: Merric is so fricken stubborn. You would not believe. But I know how to get around his little issues. Or I just do my thing, anyway. If he doesn't like my gate, he doesn't have to swing on it. Right?

All Fomorian Hells are about to break loose on earth, making human souls the daily special, if the Tuatha de Danaan can't stop it.

Teagan, a Celtic demi-goddess hiding from her destiny in small-town Colorado, wants nothing to do with her mother's forgotten realm or the drama of a battle of the gods. And Merric is forbidden fruit she's too smart to taste.

Merric, leader of the Tuatha de Danaan warriors, has other plans. Teagan holds the key to salvation, for both him and their worlds, whether she wants to or not. He'll do whatever it takes to convince her of her duty.

But can he find the key to her heart?

  2. I like certain types of books and once I find an author I like, I see what others are like them. I also take recommendations from blogs and reviers. This book sounds great because it has God/Goddesses, one of my faves.

    1. Sheryl,
I do hope you give Goddess On The Run a try, then. I had a blast with these characters and playing with their world. Thank you for your response. As authors, sometimes it helps to know where readers are finding us...and where they aren't ;-)
      Good luck with the contest!!!

  3. I enjoy multiple genres... from YA to Urban Fantasy and a lot in-between. I choose a new author to read based on the blurbs on Goodread's and the opinions of other bloggers I trust. I also look at the quality of the cover art. Bad cover art (if done by an actual publishing house) can be an indication of how much they are willing to invest into this author.

Once I find a new book I like, I'll follow the author on Twitter and Facebook, look for author interviews online, and keep my eyes open for the next release in the series.

I maintain a list of upcoming titles that I post periodically to FB and also my own blog site.

    1. NoraA,
What a thorough answer. Thank you. It's interesting to me that the cover art was part of your response, but it is so true, isn't it? We are visually motivated as well. I've been quite fortunate, I think, to have amazing artists assigned to my books. I do hope you read, enjoy, and pass along your opinion on both of my books.Good luck with the contest.

  4. I scour Amazon's free books. If I find one I like, I search out the author for more books. Love the goddess angle this week. My book features Mother Nature as a goddess.

    1. That sounds like a fun idea, Mary Jo. Good luck with it! And thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, I don't have any control over my novels' prices, they are set by the publisher, but it is good to know, still.

  5. Usually I find new authors through friend referrals, goodreads and the book blogs that I follow. New authors, in my opinion, stand out when their stories (synopsis) stands out. I have been known however to read a book because the cover was amazing (and sometimes the book isn’t as amazing as the cover). When I like an author’s writing style I always want to read more of their work. I try to switch up genres in order to stay surprised and broaden my reading scope.
Best wishes to you, Marne! And Thank you for the giveaway!

I Love, love , love goodreads! It's an amazing place, isn't it? Thank you so much for both your kind words and your answer. Good luck with the contest and hopefully I'll see you on goodreads

  6. I love discovering new authors. I'm always reviewing the synopsis of new books. I'm usually attracted to stories that present something new that I haven't read or if it's a similar plot with different elements and twists. Even if it's a different genre, I'll still stick with the series if I'm hooked with the writing. Thanks for the giveaway. Damaris dsr002(at)gmail(dot)com

      Maris,
It is wonderful to find such openness to new authors. This is so refreshing and fun. Good luck to you with the contest. I hope you enjoy my books. I want to mention I have another book, the second in the Fae Dragon Chronicles, coming out in April.

  7. I think creative ideas draw me to new authors, if the blurb sounds like a read I would enjoy I'll pick them up and try them. Sometimes I will just do it anyway to give them a chance. Sometimes I'll read it if it has an awesome cover :D cover art appeals to me. If I walk by and it catches my eye, chances are I will read what the book is about as well. I am open minded, if the author also writes outside of my genre and I know their work is great I will probably give it a shot.

    1. Lily B,
Cover art is so important to a book. I agree. Thank you so much for your answer. It sounds like you are definitely a brick and mortar bookstore fan...me too ;-)
      Good luck!

  8. I read comments on book blogs, get a consensus, or read some comments that catch my eye, or have the new author compared to other authors I like, or I win the the book and get hooked on their writing style. I read all different genre - historical, contemporary, paranormal - my only requirement is romance with an HEA - and well written of course.

  9. I base a lot of my book choices off the book cover, then the synopsis. Price is also a big factor in my book choices. I buy majority of my books off the 2.99 and under section. I've discovered a lot of great authors this way.

  10. The book cover and the excerpt is what usually draws me in. Yes I will try out different things by them. Thanks for the chance to win!

  11. I read a boo based on the blurb. I'll read different genres by the author if the book sounds good.

  12. The only genre I use to read was historical. One day our local library was having a book sale and I happened upon a book by Christine Feehan. It was the second in her Dark Series. I was hooked. I have collected all of her Dark Series books. From there I expanded to other paranormal authors/ books. I won't lie the cover is first to attract my attention however I also read excerpts, follow blogs, etc. I will give new authors the first chapter or two and if they can't pull me in then it goes to goodwill.
I'm an avid reader and read whenever I can but I also have 6 children.
Your book looks and sounds awesome. I can't wait to read it.

  13. For new-to-me authors, I'm first attracted by the blurb or by an excerpt, or by reading a review on a blog. If the story sounds interesting, I will usually download a sample as I'm very picky about writing styles and editing and I would never buy a new author without sampling.

  14. I am also attracted first to the blurb and also a cover has been known to draw me in.
If I like an Author's work then I'm going to keep going back.
