Interview with Author Anna Randol and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to the blog, author Anna Randol. Anna is celebrating the recent release of her book Sins of a Ruthless Rogue and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Please give Anna a warm welcome.

Anna Randol was raised in Southern California. When she was eight, she decided her diary was too dull and decided to write as if she lived on a raft in the Amazon with her imaginary dog, Cream Puff. At twelve, Anna decided racing down rapids with only a dog for company might get rather lonely. Handsome British heroes began to appear on her raft, and her love of adventure-driven romance was born. Her novel, Sins of a Ruthless Rogue, is available now! She loves to hear from readers.

Places to find Anna:

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
I love trying to look cool while stumbling around on the treadmill. I love chasing my kids and my yellow Labrador puppy around the park. I love any and all excuses to eat (hence my need for a treadmill). I hate sad endings and play a mean game of hide-and-seek.

Oh, and I also write sultry, exotic Historical Romance for Avon.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I always had stories in my head, usually romances. But it didn’t occur to me that was unusual. They weren’t just passing fantasies, I would rework them over and over in my head until everyone had proper motivation and each action made sense. Finally, about five years ago, I decided to put them on paper and my life as a writer began.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
A little bit of both. I have several key points and scenes in my head, but I tend to pants it on all the other parts in between.

Where do your ideas come from?
Everywhere! It could be anything from a lyric from a song to a secondary character in some movie that I found far more fascinating than hero.

My current series, for instance, began when I wondered who my fictional British government would’ve sent on all the truly dangerous, heinous missions. The idea for the Sinners Trio was born. It follows a trio of former criminals (some guilty, some not) who are promised a pardon in exchange for honing their particular skills on behalf of the Crown. Once the war is over, they’re let go with little more than a pat on the back. Now, they have to decide which side of the law they really want to be on…

The idea for the characters of the Trio came to me much as they appear in the series, as a unified group, certain of who they are and what they want. Often, ideas for stories will come to me in the form of bits of scenes, but in this case, these three spies waltzed in as a group and demanded they all have happily-ever-afters.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
A man seeks revenge on the woman who betrayed him--and who he can't resist in SINS OF A RUTHLESS ROGUE

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I have so many! I love dark and tortured heroes, the worst their past the better. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales.

On the flip side, I love the lighter story where the hero returns to the girl he never noticed before and discovers that she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.

And I also adore May/December romances with an older hero nobly trying to fight his attraction to a younger heroine (The Admiral’s Bride by Suzanne Brockman is one of my favorites!).

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
I mentioned, The Admiral’s Bride, but I also love Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. Dain is so perfectly broken and in need of fixing. It is also one of the books I went back to again and again as I was learning to write.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
I love writing the fast-paced action and fight scenes. I have a bit of hard time with the more introspective scenes. I always fear I am beating my reader over the head with the same emotion again and again, so I have to work really hard to keep it fresh.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
  • Hmm… Loretta Chase, because I love how she handles emotion and I would love to pick her brain for some insight.
  • Jane Austen, because I know some awesome guys I could set her up with. (And she deserves a Darcy of her own.)
  • Lastly, Sarah MacLean, because not only do I adore her Regencies, but I’ve had a chance to meet her in person and she is as hilarious in person as she is in writing. She could fill in all those awkward gaps in my conversation when I couldn’t think of anything to say.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I am working on edits for the last book in the Sinners Trio, Sins of a Wicked Princess (Avon, Nov. 2013). My readers have been dying to read Ian’s book and I hope they won’t be disappointed. He is such a witty rouge and the heroine, Princess Juliana, is more than his match.

So, readers, which historical figure would you set up on a blind date with your friend?

Revenge never tasted so sweet . . .

When Clayton Campbell shows up on her doorstep, Olivia Swift is stunned. For long ago, Clayton was the boy who stole her heart. He's also the man her betrayal had sent to the gallows. A man she believed dead, now standing before her, looking leaner, harder, more powerful than ever, his haunted eyes filled with a lust she had never seen—for vengeance . . .

Or burned so hot . . .

He has more than once faced death and escaped unscathed. Yet Clayton Campbell cannot deny that the sight of Olivia rouses in him something more than a thirst for revenge. Or that the bold beauty would lure him once more into a dangerous game. Only this time, Clayton plans to be the victor— with the tempting Olivia in his bed as his prize. But once passion ignites between them, the hard-hearted agent will face his greatest battle yet— for his heart . . .

  17. All my friends are married or happily single but if I had to choose a character I would choose any of the Carpathian males ( Christine Feehan's Dark Series), Rhett Butler, Thor, or Damon Salvador. I could think of others but I'll stop here :)

  19. I must admit that I had to take a moment to laugh when I saw your question since I'm in my 60's and all my friends have been married over 40 years! I really don't think their husband would be happy if I fixed them up on a date!

On the other hand "back in the days" of our youth I know a couple of them would have loved me setting them up with Don Quixote - you know a hero that only see the good in you, tells you you're the most enticing woman he's ever met and is willing to attack windmills to save you?

Fortunately after 43 years of marriage I can tell you the Impossible Dream isn't impossible at all - it just takes a little work to make come true!

  23. One of my best friends is going though a tough divorce and when she was ready I would love to set her up with her favorite leading man...Rhett Butler.

  24. How about Casanova or Don Juan - that might be fun!

  25. It's pretty hard to choose a character! I pick Phillip Hawthorne, Marquess of Kayne (Secret Desires of a Gentleman by Laura Lee Guhrke)
