Guest Post with Tessa Bailey and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to RFTC author Tessa Bailey. Tessa is celebrating the release of her newest novella, His Risk to Take. Please give Tessa a warm welcome.

Tessa lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and young daughter. When she isn't writing or reading romance, Tessa enjoys a good argument and thirty-minute recipes.

Places to find Tessa:

Hi Danielle, thanks for having me today!

In my female characters, I would have to say stubbornness seems to be a running theme in their personalities I like my heroines to know their own minds going into the book, before they meet the hero. They should have strong convictions and beliefs that can’t be compromised by anyone. Of course, my stories usually involve some sexual discovery on the heroine’s part, so I’m okay with that kind of compromise (wink) if it leads to something mutually satisfying between the characters. Outside of the bedroom, however, I like the gal to keep the hero on his toes.

In my male characters, I like a protective nature. Possessiveness toward the heroine. It’s a matter of taste, I suppose. I don’t think I could write a man who didn’t get jealous or overreact when the object of his affection does something to put herself in danger. I like alpha males who are secure in themselves and their ability to satisfy their woman and keep them safe. It’s just hot. They instinctively have a need to provide safety. I find that to be a recurring characteristic in the men I write, which is probably why I chose cops.

The greater the risk, the hotter the reward…

Homicide cop Troy Bennett had a reputation with the Chicago PD for being fearless and in control—until the night his daredevil partner is killed during a raid. From that moment on, he swears he’ll never again be responsible for the loss of a loved one. To escape his demons, Troy transfers to the NYPD, bringing him up close and personal with Ruby Elliott, a beautiful, street-savvy pool hustler.

Reckless and stubbornly independent, Ruby embodies everything Troy’s avoiding, but when she walks into the pub he’s at with his new coworkers and blows his carefully laid plans to hell, Troy knows he has to have her—risks be damned. But there’s a connection between Ruby’s shadowed past and a case Troy’s working involving a notorious Brooklyn felon, throwing her safety into jeopardy. Confronted with his biggest fear, will Troy push Ruby away to keep her safe or fight to keep her in his arms where she belongs?

    1. Hi Marcy, Sometimes I think I became an author by mistake. I'd written a few books in the past but didn't expend a lot of energy getting them published. I was busy with work, school, baby, husband, etc. So when Hurricane Sandy happened six months ago, my husband's place of work was closed for six weeks for repairs. With a new babysitter in the house, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands! So I locked myself in a room and wrote Protecting What's His. I submitted it to Entangled and was shocked to actually hear back. One of the best days ever! Now I write whenever I can. Morning, nap times, late at night :) Some of my favorite authors include Tara Sivec, Karen Marie Moning and Kresley Cole.
