Interview with Author Rhyannon Byrd and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome author Rhyannon Byrd to RFTC. Rhyannon is gearing up for her upcoming release of Take Me Under and has stopped by to answer a few questions. Please give Rhyannon a warm welcome.

Rhyannon Byrd is an avid, longtime fan of romance and the author of more than twenty paranormal and erotic titles. She has been nominated for three Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Awards, including best Shape-shifter Romance, and her books have been translated into nine languages. After having spent years enjoying the glorious sunshine of the American South and Southwest, Rhyannon now lives in the beautiful, but often chilly county of Warwickshire in England with her husband and family.

First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Sure! I have a wonderful hubby who does all the cooking despite his busy schedule, two great kids who make me laugh every day, two crazy but loveable dogs, and have lived in the UK for the past five years. I love music and movies, and I read romances every chance I get because I love losing myself in the stories. And I also write...a lot...as in ALL THE TIME. But that’s okay because it’s a lot of fun, so I consider myself very lucky to have something that I enjoy so much as a fulltime career.

Did you always want to be a writer?
Writing is something that I always wanted to do—and I even majored in Literature and Writing at university—but I don’t think I ever had that “OMG, I have to be a romance writer” moment until I started reading Anne Rice in my early twenties. I fell in love with her paranormal and erotic works, and could lose myself in them for days on end. It was like I had discovered this entirely new world that was not only mesmerizing and beautiful, but also completely addictive, and from that point on I was hooked.

What kind of writer are you? Panster or Plotter?
I am definitely much more of a natural Panster, but have had to learn to be more of a Plotter. This is especially true when working on a long series, because it takes a lot of plotting and planning to be able to weave the stories together and give the readers little hints about what might be coming later on. But when I’m working on something that’s a standalone, I let my inner Panster go wild and just enjoy the freedom of being able to go wherever the story takes me.

Where do your ideas come from?
I never really know how to answer this question, except to say from my characters. My books are always mainly character-driven, and I usually just start off with a scene or a bit of dialogue, and everything springs from that specific point. With the Dangerous Tides series, I started out with the opening scene in Ch 1 of Take Me Under, where Reese walks into her kitchen wearing nothing but a towel only to come face to face with the town’s sexy bad boy sheriff and starts screaming with embarrassment. I knew from the way that they interacted with each other in that scene that I loved the chemistry between them and the story just naturally took off from there.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
Emotional erotic romance about a shy divorcee who is a stalker's dangerous obsession, and the sexy lawman who will protect her at any cost.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I’ve always loved contemporary erotic romances with sexy alpha males and they’re still the books that I buy more than any other. Of course, I also love hot, gritty paranormals from authors like Kresley Cole and Karen Marie Moning. I’ve also recently discovered some of the steamier new adult books that are out there and have fallen into complete lust with them!

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
Catcher in the Rye would be my all-time favorite book because I love Holden Caulfield. But when it comes to trying to pick my favorite romance, there are just too many to choose from. But one of the books that will always be at the top of my favorites list is Sandra Brown’s Slow Heat in Heaven. Every time I read that book I fall in love with Cash Boudreaux all over again.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
I think it would probably be the fight scenes, simply because it’s sometimes difficult to get the action across in precisely the way that it’s playing out in my head. This is especially difficult when I have a large group of people fighting, like in one of my Bloodrunners books. There’s so much going on in a fight or battle scene—blood flying, bodies crashing, people snarling and cursing—and it’s important to keep the action fast-paced and fresh while still keeping it from becoming just a confusing mass of bodies trying to rip each other to pieces.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
I would choose to have dinner with three of my favorite romance authors who I love but have never met. The first author would be Linda Howard, who I would, um, “sweetly” pester for information about the Blair Mallory series and ask when she’s finally going to give us a book for Blair’s sister, Sienna. The second author would be Lisa Kleypas, who I would also, er, “sweetly” pester for an answer about when we’re finally going to get Joe Travis’ story!! And the third author would be Sandra Brown, who I would simply beg to write a story about one of Cash and Schyler’s kids, especially if they had a son who took after his father. ;)

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
I’m in the middle of several different projects right now and really loving it. I’m just about to finish the galleys for my Make Me Yours novella, which will be part of the WICKED AND DANGEROUS anthology that’s coming out in Oct with the awesome Shayla Black. Make Me Yours falls between books 1 and 2 in the Dangerous Tides series, and I’m already buried in book 2, KEEP ME CLOSER, which will be out in June of next year. You meet the heroes from both of these stories in TAKE ME UNDER, because they either work for or are related to Ben. I’m also working on some exciting self-published projects that will be coming out this summer, as well as the sixth book in my Bloodrunners series for Nocturne.

I plan to finally write the sequels to some of my early erotic romances this year and I’m curious which story readers would like to see first: Jonah and Jace from Triple Play? Derek and Hannah from Against the Wall. Or Cain and Kyra from A Little Less Conversation?

Thanks so much to RAMBLINGS FROM THIS CHICK for having me here today!!!

Ben Hudson had a thing for shy, sexy Reese Monroe from the moment he first saw her three years ago. Back then, she was married and living in Boston—two very good reasons for the Miami detective with a bad boy reputation to stay away.

But that was then…

Now Reese is divorced and moving to Florida, where her mother has rented her a small beach house—one that happens to be owned by Ben. Living right next door, he can’t get Reese’s soft curves out of his mind. He’s waited three long years to touch her in all the ways he’s been dreaming about, and this time he won’t let anything get in his way.

For Reese, Ben’s sudden advances are thrilling, but leave her stunned. With her limited experience in the bedroom, she never expects a man with such a wicked reputation to go after her. She knows she should be on guard, but he’s a temptation she can’t resist. And when trouble follows her down from Boston, threatening her life, Ben may be the only one who can help her.
