A Naughty New Year with Robin Bielman

When not attached to her laptop, USA Today Bestselling Author Robin Bielman can almost always be found with her nose in a book. A California girl, the beach is her favorite place for fun and inspiration. Her fondness for swoon-worthy heroes who flirt and stumble upon the girl they can’t live without jumpstarts most of her story ideas.

She loves to frequent coffee shops, take hikes with her hubby, and play sock tug of war with her cute, but sometimes naughty, dog Harry. She dreams of traveling to faraway places and loves to connect with readers. To keep in touch sign up for her newsletter on her website at www.robinbielman.com

Happy New Year everyone! I’m so happy to be here to celebrate with you and share a scene from my NYE novella, YOURS AT MIDNIGHT. The scene below picks up right after my heroine, Lyric, has rushed next door to tell my hero, Quinn, that she loves him. It’s been a rough road to this point. They’ve loved each other since they were young, but neither knew how to say it. Fast forward to adulthood and Quinn leaves town immediately after they spend a mind-blowing night together. A night that results in a baby on the way. But Lyric is too hurt to tell him, so four years go by before they see each other again. She’s done something horrible and can barely live with herself for keeping their son, Max, a secret. She’s just apologized, groveled for his forgiveness, and hopes he can find it in his heart to give them a chance. The clock is just about to strike midnight now…

A smile, sexy and real, spread across Quinn’s face and Lyric’s heart doubled over.

In the distance, the faint celebration of partygoers counting down to midnight sounded. Quinn darted a quick glance in the direction of her house.

“Ten, nine, eight...”

Lyric looked at Quinn’s lips. He looked back at hers. Unable to wait another second, she took the initiative and didn’t give him a chance to escape. She nudged him up against the front door, said “happy New Year,” and kissed him.

He kissed her back without hesitation. His hot, delicious mouth took hers. His tongue slid against her teeth, then deeper, and she surrendered to anything and everything he wanted to give. God, he kissed amazing. With the right pressure, the right skill, the right familiarity that inflamed her insides with desire only he could satisfy.

She told herself not to read too much into this. To enjoy what he offered right now. The way he turned her on, the way he seemed to need her as much as she needed him, should be enough. But her heart was too invested now, and if this didn’t lead to something more, she couldn’t go through with it.

No matter how good it felt.

The tooting of horns and other noise-makers floated to the doorstep. It was a new year. A chance for a new beginning.

“Hang on,” she breathed, her hands keeping to his chest so he stayed where she wanted him. “You haven’t said anything, and I need to know what’s going on here.”

He dropped his forehead to hers. His breath faltered and she didn’t dare move. “Thanks,” he whispered.

“For?”

“For coming over. For...”

Her heart pounded. “Yes?”

“Apology accepted, Lyric.” He lifted his head and scorched her with a look of appreciation so genuine her legs wobbled.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, melting against him. “Really?”

“If I didn’t, what kind of man would that make me? And I want to be the kind of man you deserve.”

“You are exactly what I need. What I want.”

“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that.”

“I think I do.”

He put one arm around her waist while the other went around her shoulders. He traced his fingers along the back of her neck and then he once again captured her mouth in a searing, toe-curling kiss that obliterated any doubts about where she belonged. His hard body fit against her soft one like they’d been painted into a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork.

The kiss deepened. She ran her fingers through his hair and lost herself in him. When he started to slide her blouse down her arm, she pulled back. “I think you should invite me in.”

“I think that’s a great idea. Happy New Year, Lyric.” He pulled her inside, slammed the door shut with his foot, and pinned her against the wall. He nipped at her earlobe, slid his mouth along her neck, moved up to tug on her lower lip. His hands lifted the sides of her skirt. His erection pressed against her heated center.

“Wait,” she said against his lips. “I can’t do this if I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow, Lyric? Tomorrow I’m going to make love to you again. I fell for you a long time ago. And I’m falling for Max now. This isn’t going to be easy, not at the start. I’ve got to go back to New York, but I promise you I’ll be back. We’ll figure things out.”

“Okay.” She didn’t care that they didn’t have a plan yet. She had him. And for the first time in her life she didn’t mind taking things one day or week at a time. She felt liberated, in love, and strangely in control of her destiny.

“You’re sure?”

“Very.”

“Good, because I want to rip your clothes off you.” His mouth recaptured hers, and they clumsily made their way down the hall to his bedroom. When the backs of her thighs hit the bed, his lips moved south, caressing her neck, her collarbone. Tingles, fast and furious, skipped down her arms, fluttered in her stomach, settled between her legs.

She lifted his shirt up and over his head. With her hands splayed across his chest, she bent forward and licked him.

“I want your mouth all over me,” he groaned. “But not this time. This time I need to be inside you in the next two minutes.” He reached around and unfastened her skirt. With one swift yank, it and her panties hit the floor. Grabbing the hem of her shirt, he tugged it off and unclasped her bra with those talented fingers of his. Then he lifted her onto the bed. She scooted back.

His gaze fell to her C-section scar and she immediately tried to cover it with her hands. He stopped her, gently rubbed a finger across the uneven skin. Their eyes met, and without words she knew he understood where the scar had come from.

“Every inch of you is beyond compare,” he said. “You’re not just beautiful. You make my heart stop.” He slid slowly over her body, his hands moving just in front of his mouth, touching and tracing her inner thighs, her hips, her stomach, her breasts.

She arched up, cried out. Her hands slid over his strong shoulders and brought him up so she could feel his chest against hers, tangle their tongues and breathe him in.

“Naked. Now,” she said. All she could think about was him filling her. Burying himself inside her until they were out of their minds with pleasure.

He shucked his sweats and froze. “Dammit. I need to run upstairs.”

Lyric eyed his erection and sighed in pleasure. She’d done that to him, and wanted to do it over and over and over again. “Check the pocket of my skirt.”

“You have a condom on you?”

“I was hoping I’d get lucky.”

It took him two seconds to find it, tear open the packet, and position himself at her opening.
He paused. A desperate moan escaped her lips, and she lifted her hips. He smiled that wicked, mouth-watering grin that made her lose her mind.

“Quinn,” she said. Begged.

“Lyric.” This time he said her name like it was the single most important word in any language, and the tiny part of her heart he hadn’t yet conquered caved to him entirely. He captured her mouth with urgency at the same time he joined his body to hers in one deep thrust. Her entire body writhed with need. She shifted restlessly. More. She wanted more.

Kisses trailed down her neck. With his hands on her lower back, he brought her closer. She wrapped her legs around him, rose to meet his insistent rhythm. Nothing had ever felt so right, so perfect. She fought to keep her breathing under control.

Her fingers combed through his hair again. When his mouth closed over her breast, she dropped her arms, clawed at the bed sheets, and immediately arched against the strokes of his lips and tongue.

The way Quinn touched her set off a raw ache that would take years, decades to satiate.

He lifted his head and met her gaze. What she saw—the hunger and devotion—intensified every motion they made together. There was nothing between them anymore. No secrets. No lies. No denials. With subtle, circling movements, he slowed their tempo, never taking his dark eyes off her…

Lyric Whetsone only had eyes for Quinn Sobel's brother Oliver, until a car crash took Oliver's life on New Year's Eve. Then, a moment of shared grief between Quinn and Lyric became something more impassioned, something that frightened Quinn so much he ran from Lyric's bed and her life, disappearing for four long years.

Now Quinn's back for another New Year's Eve, struggling for closure, desperate to leave his grief in the past and make amends with the girl of his dreams.

But Lyric has a secret--one that could drive Quinn from her life forever. Will Quinn run away from the love and acceptance he's always wanted...or will he claim his New Year's kiss and make her his at midnight?
