ARC Review: Ravage by Jessica Prince

Ravage is actually my first book by Jessica Prince, despite being the 4th book in her Civil Corruption series. This book is a standalone story, and I had no problems understanding anything. I will say though that after finishing this book, I can’t wait to go back and read the previous books! I enjoyed this one a lot and will definitely be reading more from Jessica Prince.

Lyla has loved Mason Keller since she met him as a child. But when she finally got old enough to tell him about her feelings, he broke her heart by telling her that she was off limits as the little sister of his best friend. She tried to pick up the pieces and move on, but things didn’t go as planned and she was left more broken than ever. With the obstacles once standing in their way removed, Mace is determined to finally give in to the feelings they have both had for years. But can Lyla give him another chance after everything they’ve been through?

I loved these two, and yet they went through so much to get where they should have been all along. My heart broke for them at times, and I was frustrated and angry with them at others. The one thing that never changed for me though was that I truly believed these two were meant for one another. Lyla and Mace had amazing chemistry and a connection that was so strong nothing could truly break it. While they had moments things didn’t go their way, their feelings never wavered and I loved them for it.

Overall, I loved the characters in this series and I especially loved Lyla and Mace. I can’t wait to read the previous books to get more of the band and the guys that Lyla was so close to. Their relationship with her showed that they were all great guys, and I couldn’t get enough of them looking out for her. While they were all special, Mace definitely has a special place for me and I think readers will love his and Lyla’s story.

ARC Review: Corrupt by Jessica Prince

Corrupt is the first book in Jessica Prince's Civil Corruption series and features Garrett and Gwen. This was my first Jessica Prince book, but I have seen a lot about her books before and wanted to give this one a go. There were things I liked here, and there were things that didn't work as well for me. While I had mixed feelings about the story, I would read more from Jessica Prince in the future. 

Garrett and Gwen share a night together and it changes their lives forever. But while Garrett is a rich and famous rockstar that is in his own world, Gwen is forced to move on and deal with the consequences that life has dealt her. They are tied together though and now that Gwen is forced to deal with Garrett daily, she finds her walls starting to crumble even after everything that has happened. 

I found it really hard to like or relate to these characters at times. They were flawed and drove me nuts, but I did have moments where I felt like there were glimmers of hope for them. For much of this book though Garrett was pretty much a jerk, and by the time he was redeemed it was somewhat too little, too late. I really wanted to like these two and be able to root for them, but there was just so much that went against that. They had chemistry and there were moments that I did like them. But ultimately I struggled with them and how their relationship happened. I never felt like we really saw them fall in love and that made it hard to believe in a forever for them. 

I really did want to like this one, and like I said there were moments here that I did. But overall, I just struggled and that made this one just okay for me. I do think that I will give Jessica Prince another chance in the future, as I did see a lot of promise here and I enjoyed her writing style. It was more the story and characters here that didn't fully work for me. I have seen a lot of readers that loved this book though, so I think that it is worth taking a chance on if it sounds like one you might be interested in. Just because this one didn't work for me personally doesn't mean that it won't work for you. There were just a few things that I had trouble getting past, but it could be one that you love.

ARC Review: Chance Encounters by Jessica Prince

This is for all the fairy tale lovers out there who root for the underdog and live to see the tables turn in life. This book touched on every romantic bone that I have and because it is well written, witty and entertaining, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Melany has had it rough. She was verbally abused by her Mother in a horrifying fashion and abandoned by her Father. She was mocked by the guys she liked as a teenager and publicly humiliated and more than one occasion. When Melany is first introduced in this book, she is this nervous, stuttering mess. And at first I was like, OMG, not one of these heroines who bites their lip all the time and can't put together a complete sentence. But that was not at all the whole story with Melany. The author was so good at putting together the story of Melany's history and what led to her being the way that she was that I was enthusiastically rooting for her through most of the book.

Melany meets Chance while she is literally pining away for Logan who she has been in secret love with for years. Chance is not at all put off by Melany's stuttering or her penchant for extreme rambling. Like, Melany would pick a topic and just go off. Where most people found it weird, Chance found it endearing. Chance is a great guy who has been unlucky in love. Every woman he has wanted has been into someone else. Even with that history, Chance decides to accept Melany's request to...you guessed it, help her get with someone else- Logan.

Melany and Chance develop a really strong friendship in which Chance helps Melany to accentuate her positive features and stop dwelling on her anxiety. Here's the interesting thing though- Melany changing her "look" wasn't what ultimately led to her internal change. It was having Chance supporting her and even though she didn't realize it, loving her, that gave her the courage to start facing real life. The problem is that Chance doesn't think Melany can handle knowing that he is in love with her because when he first met Melany she couldn't handle anything. For Melany's part, she is still so used to being the ugly duckling that nobody wants that she can't believe that Chance would want her. Melany spends almost the entire book believing that Chance is trying to help her get another guy...even though he is possessive of her and oh yeah, having wild monkey sex with her at every turn, lol. The girl was seriously clueless.

This book is the best of character development and storytelling. The author also does an outstanding job using supporting characters. The friends of both Chance and Melany add a lot to the story without overshadowing the plot. There are many hilarious moments in this book involving Melany's best friend's 3 sons and all of the other characters. I actually laughed out loud several times while reading this story.  I'm not saying that there is anything groundbreaking in this book. It is a play on a popular Cinderella trope but i don't care. I really loved this book and I definitely want to see what else this author has to offer.
