Feature and Giveaway: Undercover Attraction by Katee Robert

Scandal. Wealth. Power. Seduction. Welcome to the world of the O'Malleys.

Ex-cop Charlotte Finch used to think there was a clear line between right and wrong. Then her fellow officers betrayed her, and the world is no longer so black and white. Especially when it's Aiden O'Malley, one of the most dangerous men in Boston, who offers her a chance for justice. The only catch: she'll have to pretend to be his fiancée for his plan to work.

Aiden can't afford to let anyone see the man behind the mask. To run the O'Malley empire, he has to be cool and controlled at all times. But the moment he meets Charlie, they're playing with fire. Her slightest touch is enough to send him over the edge. At first their "engagement" was a way to eliminate his enemies. Now he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe-- even if he has to destroy his own family to do it.

“Come on.” Aidan stepped back and took her hand. “I have something to show you.”

He led the way up the back stairs and through a door she hadn’t explored yet. Charlie’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of candles flickering on a table laid out with a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a whole spread of Chinese takeout.

She let go of his hand and wandered over to peer into the boxes. “How did you know that crispy pork belly was my favorite?” Just like that, the pieces clicked together. She snapped her fingers. “You had your sister feel me out?” She’d thought Kiera had been asking about her favorite food so they could pick a local place next time they ventured out of the house. “Shady. Very shady.”

“I am a mob boss, after all.” He came around the table and poured them both a glass of wine. “I have it on good authority that this cab pairs well with Chinese takeout.”

“How classy of you.” It was like stepping into another realm of existence as she sat down and accepted the glass of wine while he filled two plates. When Aiden had said that he wanted a dinner date with her, she’d assumed that meant dressing to the nines and going out somewhere fancy. She said as much.

He snorted. “Eating out always serves a purpose. Either you’re making a point, or ensuring you’re seen by someone specific, or conducting a business meeting. We’ve been making points and playing parts since we met. I’d like to try something new—having a relaxing conversation. Just me and you, Aiden and Charlie, not the leader of the O’Malley clan and the former-cop-turned-fake-fiancée.”

“Do you think that’s even possible?” Such a short time together, and it was clear they both had a boatload of issues. It was easy enough to ignore when they were banging each other’s brains out or pretending to be something they weren’t, but holding down a conversation without those masks in place? She wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

Because I already like him.

ARC Review: The Hunting Grounds by Katee Robert

The Hunting Grounds is book two in the Hidden Sins series by Katee Roberts but fret not it can be read as a standalone. I have read several Katee Roberts books and I have to say I like this one more than any of the other I have read. I really enjoyed the plot, I loved the setting, and the characters were well written. I loved the whodunit it surprised me, the fact that I couldn’t make a guess impressed me. I love the mountains and love it when books have the majority of their setting in the forest, Katee’s active setting was great I could picture what they saw and what they experienced.

Maggie Gaines believes she failed so spectacularly at being an FBI agent that she left and isolated herself in a job that requires the minimum amount of social interaction, she became a Forest Ranger up in the Glazier National Park. She figured she was as far away from murder as she could get until it found her. Vic Sutherland was Maggie’s partner and the senior agent in charge he doesn’t blame Maggie for her emotional breakdown that lead to her quitting, it was a tough case even for him. It’s been eight years since she left and he hasn’t stopped thinking about her and now he’s not prepared to see how much she has changed since she last saw her, and that one kiss they shared.

Maggie was surprised that it was Vic that came instead of one of the local agents, he is part of the BAU and the dead body discovered in her park matches the MO of two other bodies he’s found in other National Parks, they were shot with arrows and gutted like game. Soon after he arrives another body is found, one who was part of a group that has now gone missing. Maggie and Vic work together in the park while Vic partner tracks down leads in town but soon Maggie and Vic are targets from this hunter. Meanwhile Vic and Maggie realize the attraction they both felt years ago is still there only now there is nothing in the way of them forming a relationship, they want to take it slow but the sexual chemistry between them is too strong to slow them down. They just have to take down this hunter before the hunter takes one of them down first.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this one. Maggie had a lot to overcome personally and Vic was there to help here gain her self-confidence back and find where she needed to be. Maggie isn’t one of those stupid heroines who go off by herself, well she does but she’s smart about it she texts and tells Vic what’s happening and she’s doing it was just crap luck that he didn’t see them sooner. She is still a little annoying at times but that’s just who she is, mixed with the issues she has to work through. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Feature and Giveaway: Prom Queen by Katee Robert

Jake Davis had it all in high school—a scholarship to his college of choice, a promising football career, and the gorgeous prom queen for a girlfriend. And then he lost it all when he was injured right after graduation. Ten years later, he’s mostly made his peace with that, and now runs a company that provides women with dates for special events. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that the ex who left him in the dust needs a fake boyfriend for their high school reunion…

Jessica Jackson used to be the mean girl to end all mean girls. But life didn’t turn out like she’d thought it would, and now she’s twenty-eight, single, and works as an insurance agent to A-listers instead of being the A-lister like she’d always dreamed. She can’t go back to her hometown and admit just how thoroughly she’s failed, so she lets her friends set her up with a fake date for the reunion.

The second Jessica realizes that her fake date is Jake, she tries to call the whole thing off. The problem is the chemistry between them is even hotter now than it was when they were teenagers. Against her better judgment she lets herself get drawn into Jake’s arms again—and into his bed. But time doesn’t heal all wounds—sometimes, it actually makes them worse—and if Jessica and Jake can’t learn to forgive each other, their second chance might not last the weekend.

ARC Review: Forbidden Promises by Katee Robert

This is the fourth book in the O'Malley Boston Crime Family series. I've read all of the books in this series and it's a great series. My suggestion to you if you're looking for a place to enter this series is start from the beginning. There are minor spoilers of the preceding books in the series with each one that comes after. The other thing is that the view of each of the siblings and their partners is very different in the books that are about them versus the books that are about the other siblings. All that being said, start with The Marriage Contract. It's a great book and will be a great intro to the series.

This book is the story of Sloane O'Malley. Sloane has been the super depressed shadow of a person lurking in the prior stories. If you read any of the prior books you'll know that Sloane was slowly suffocating in her life as the crime bosses daughter. She felt more trapped by her surroundings than she felt secure or safe. After Sloane's older sister (featured in another book) leaves, Sloane is barely hanging on when her older brother offers her a way out. Teague (also featured in the opening book in the series) offers to help Sloane escape the Boston crime family. Sloane escapes to a small town where she finds Jude.

Jude is hiding all kinds of secrets about who he is and what he is doing. Jude is big and bad, dark and brooding. He is bossy and desires to control just about everything. Jude is focused on his mission and is not at all looking for love or a relationship. He can't resist his attraction to Sloane though and one time isn't enough. From the minute Jude and Sloane get together that is pretty much it. Jude continues to engage in some epic Aholery but Sloane finds her stride away from her family and has no problem putting Jude in his place. Outside of the bedroom. Inside of the bedroom, Jude unlocks all little Sloane's virgin secrets.

Jude and Sloane are a hot mess of a couple. Neither of them really knows how to be in a relationship and because of their pasts all hell starts breaking loose all around them almost right away. Jude has to decide if his mission is more important to him than a possible relationship with Sloane. Sloane has to decide if she can trust Jude. In between all this action, there is some pretty serious steam.

As a bonus, the author gives us a glimpse into the next stories and surprise surprise, it looks like Dimitri Romanov is getting a book and it's going to involve Keira. That's going to be epic and I can't wait.

Feature and Giveaway: Forbidden Promises by Katee Robert

Some lines should never be crossed . . . not even for love.

Sloan O'Malley just left her entire world behind-her family, her wealth, and even her real name. For the first time in her life, she's free. She can live the "normal" life she's always wanted. A life without fear. But there's nothing safe about her intensely sexy next-door neighbor.

Jude MacNamara has no room for innocence in his life. Only revenge. Still, he's never been able to walk away from the forbidden, and Sloan--who is every inch of pure, mouthwatering temptation--has forbidden written all over her. Only after it's way too late does he discover the real danger: claiming Sloan as his puts a target on her back. To protect her, Jude is willing risk everything . . . and to hell with the consequences.

“Coming here was a mistake.” Sloan started to get up, but Jude hooked the band of her yoga pants and pulled her down. She ended up straddling him with a hiss of fury. “I dislike you intensely.”

“No, you don’t.” He palmed her ass, sliding her forward so she rode the ridge of his cock. “You dislike feeling out of control. Guess what, sunshine? You don’t get control when it comes to fucking me.”

Her nipples pebbled, showing through her thin tank top. They teased him even as she put her hands on his chest, her fingers kneading him and making him think of a kitten who had just discovered her claws. “And if I want control?”

“You don’t.” He wrapped one arm around her waist and used his free hand to palm her over the top of her pants. “I’ve barely touched you and you’re so fucking wet, you’re practically panting for me.”

“You are insufferable.” But she rolled her hips, rubbing herself against his hand. “I’m leaving.”

“No, you’re not. You’re going to stay here and let me lick that pretty pussy of yours until you come.” He lightly pinched her clit through the fabric, watching her face. She liked the slightest bit of pain if the way her eyes went heavy lidded was anything to go by. “And then I’m going to bend you over this couch and take what’s mine.” Until you forget why you were frightened in the first place tonight.

He wanted to hear her say yes. For all his pushing her, if she actually wanted to leave, he wasn’t about to stop her. She wanted him to push her, to corner her, to let her pretend she wasn’t making this decision every step of the way. Fuck that. He gripped her hips, lifting her and standing her on her feet. She blinked, obviously confused. “I thought…”

Jude unbuttoned his jeans, drawing the zipper down, his gaze never leaving hers. “You thought I’d take what we both know you want to give me? Newsflash, I might get off on the lady protesting too much, but that only goes so far. You want to leave, leave. I’m not going to chase you down and club you over the head, no matter how much I want you.”

She swayed a little. “That’s not fair.”

“What’s not fair is how goddamn hard I am for you. I watched your little yoga show this afternoon—don’t even pretend you didn’t know because I saw you shooting looks this way. Seeing that pert little ass of yours in the air, like you were offering yourself to me, and not being able to take what I wanted?” He grabbed her hand and pressed it against his cock. “How long do you think you could hold downward dog with my mouth on your pussy?”

Her whole body shivered, her hand clenching around his cock. Sloan’s brows slanted down. “You’re doing it again. That thing where I should slap you across your face for talking to me the way you do.”

“Do it.” Jude took her free hand and set it against his cheek. “But whatever you’re going to do if you’re not leaving, then get those fucking pants off. I’m starving for you.”

***

Sloan almost gave in. But she hadn’t left her entire life behind to hand over what little freedom she had to another man.

She took one step back, and then another. “You’re wrong. I don’t want to give up control.”

Lay the terms out. You don’t want this to end, but he can’t run the whole show. You can’t let it happen like that.

Sloan lifted her chin, faking a confidence she didn’t feel in the least. “Even if this is temporary, I want it on my terms.”

Jude went still. “I’m listening.”

The only way you can get what you want is to say it. She bit her lip and then charged on. “If you’re sleeping with me, then you’re sleeping with me. I don’t care if you aren’t a fan of cuddling. It’s something I require to continue this thing.”

He raised a single eyebrow. “You want me to whisper sweet nothings in your ear while you’re at it?”

“I think we can both agree that’s not how you operate.” She didn’t want the lie of sweet nothings, but she’d take the lie of his big body in bed next to hers.

Maybe it would make her feel a little less alone.

He buttoned his pants with careless efficiency. “I don’t sleep.”

Her earlier anger flared. “Then lie there and count sheep for all I care.” She couldn’t believe she was pushing this. It would be so much smarter to retreat back to the safety of her home. Lonely, yes? But at least no one could hurt her there. She was opening herself up for rejection and potentially worse when Jude shot her down.

But he didn’t say anything, just continued watching her with a strange look on his face. “This will only end in tears for you, sunshine. You want things I’m not capable of giving.”

Her heart gave a pang, but she ignored it the same way she’d been ignoring it for her entire life. “You seem to think I haven’t shed more than my fair share of tears, Jude. What are a few more?” She took a careful breath. “Those are my terms. Take them or leave them.”

And then he was towering over her, his hand sifting through her hair to tug her head back so she looked him directly in the eye. “I’m taking them, sunshine. More importantly, I’m taking you.”

His thumb traced her jaw, unspeakably tender, but then his eyes went hard, making the bottom of her stomach drop in a way that wasn’t altogether pleasant. I have the tiger by the tail.

ARC Review: The Devil's Daughter by Katee Robert

I have to really hand it to Katee Robert. I've read several books by her and generally I enjoy her as an author. This book, however, is totally different from the other Katee Robert book that I love and it is really good.

The Devil's Daughter is the first book by Robert that I've read that focuses on a mystery/suspense story line and weaves the romance into that story. The book opens up in a way that immediately grips your attention. There are young women being murdered in a small town. When the book opens up you get the gripping last thoughts of one of these young women and things move really fast from there. Eden left the small town and the cult of which her Mother was the leader to join the FBI. When she hears about the murder of the young women in her home town and the way they are being murdered she knows there is some connection between the murders and her mother's cult. As much as Eden doesn't want to she returns to the town to lend her unique experience as an FBI profiler and a former cult member to the investigation of the murders.

Much to her surprise, what Eden finds is a very sexy Sherrif Zach who she remembers from growing up in the town. Zach and Eden forge an uneasy alliance. Zach doesn't know if he can trust Eden and Eden doesn't trust anyone in her hometown. As the book goes on the two learn that they can trust one another and maybe even more. Zach is a compelling character with lots of layers who is trying to handle a super crazy ass small town.

There is so much in this book from the beginning to end. There is an inside view of cults and mind control. You get into the mind of young women who are being hunted. There is lots of stuff about small town dynamics. There is suspense and even some things that are scary. This is one of those books that you just kind of eat up. Your adrenaline will be pumping and you will be itching to find out what comes next.
