ARC Review: The Trouble with Vampires by Lynsay Sands

Yay Santo!! Book 29 in the Argeneau series brings us to a suburban Albany, New York neighborhood. The Enforcers got a lead that may end up being the mad scientist they have been trying to track down since he escaped from his private island off the coast of Venezuela where he had been experimenting on immortals and humans in a Dr. Moreau kind of way. After being held captive by the mad scientist Santo is ready for a swift justice. Petronella Stone is babysitting her nephew but soon after she gets there strange things start to happen someone tries to break in to the house luckily the neighbors intervene before anything can happen. The visiting neighbors, Marguerite, Julius, Zanipolo, Jason, and Santo are there to track down the mad scientist who maybe hiding out in his cousins house right next door and the attempted break in at Pet’s house is just too coincidental. They find out early on Pet knows about immortals due to a traumatic past experience which makes things easier for the Enforcers to protect her and her nephew, Parker. Once Santo realizes that Pet is his life mate and she already knows about immortals he thinks the rest should be easy, but it’s never easy!

Overall, this was another very entertaining read. Santo and Pet are hot, it gets very steamy and Santo is very deserving of a life mate. Parker is adorable. I foresee something happening with the Brass Circle in the future (finger’s crossed). This one wasn’t as predictable as some of the past books I didn’t guess what exactly happened and it was good, it had a very nice ending. I think this could be read as a standalone but if you need to read the previous one to catch up on the whole mad scientist plot you don’t have to go back to the very beginning just maybe back maybe six or seven to Runaway Vampire or Immortal Nights. I am also anticipating Zanipolo’s book to be next, I’m hoping. I always enjoy Lynsay Sands writing, her characters are always quirky and Pet and Santo’s have very dark emotional past they have to deal with which lead to them connecting on an emotional level as well as physical.

ARC Review: Immortally Yours by Lynsay Sands

The 26th installment of the incredible world of the Argeneau’s by Lynsay Sands. We take a pause from the mad scientist down in South America and as much as I like it taking a step back from it and doing something else was a nice change of pace. We once again find ourselves in Canada with Mortimer and his mate Sam. A new hunter from Spain Beth was adopted into the Argenis family after her transition over a hundred years ago. Elisabeth “Beth” is a British born woman who’s had an arduous past and has actually accepted it and moved on, it’s a shame Scotty hasn’t. Scotty was one of the ones who saved her after she was changed and for the last one hundred and twenty-five years he has been keeping his distance from her telling himself he is giving her time to heal.

Cullen “Scotty” MacDonald is the head of the British Hunters he’s lending a hand to Mortimer who is stretched pretty thin since most hunters are in South America. While he’s there he is going to check up on Beth and maybe quite possible finally claim her as his life mate. Mortimer assigns Beth, Scotty, and hunter trainee Donny to a sensitive mission, the daughter of the Russian immortals is attending school in Vancouver and has begun feeding “off the hoof”. To prevent her death and subsequently a huge, bloody international incident Beth is supposed to talk to her to make sure she knows she’s breaking the law by feeding directly from the source. Beth has had many close calls being a hunter for so long but two attempts on her life in one day seems to hinky for Scotty to just let it go as coincidence. 

The more time Scotty spends with Beth the harder it is to resist the urge to mate, and the more he realizes he never knew who she was really. All this time Scotty was telling himself he was doing it for her but deep down he was having a hard time accepting what she was in her mortal life. Beth has had time to accept what has happened to her and to accept everything about her past but when she learns that Scotty has known that she was his life mate all this time, she feels rejected like he didn’t want her because of it. Beth and Scotty have come a long way and still have quite a bit to tell each other before they can fully accept each other. But this new baddie who has targeted Beth forces their hand to reveal everything. Can Beth forgive Scotty for his past treatment and can Scotty embrace Beth for everything she is and has been in the past?

Overall, this was a good one. Just when you think the situation couldn’t get any worse it does. Poor Beth and Scotty they go through so much emotionally and physically, this is an exciting and emotional read.

ARC Review: Immortal Unchained by Lynsay Sands

TWENTY-FIVE BOOKS!! I don’t think I have stuck with a series as long as I have this one. The Argeneau series is still going strong and still you’re able to read the book as a stand-alone. As enormous as this family is it is easy to lose track of whose who but in each book it is explained who the important people are each time from book to book it never feels redundant. (But then again I haven’t binge read these yet.) There is an overall story arc in the last couple of books, a mystery the Argeneau’s are trying to solve. This time they are closer than ever. Domitian knows the mad scientist that is behind the disappearances of the immortals and against Lucian’s wishes he accepts a job offer by the man. Unfortunately Lucian was right it was a trap and now Domitian is trapped on an island at the whim of the mad scientist and the experiment he’s being forced to endure. Well it is not really that much of a trial he is there with the one woman who is destined to be his life mate. 

Sarita knew one thing when she was growing up that she would be a police officer. The brutal death of her mother set her on a course of being a strong woman, physically and mentally. When she is contacted by her grandmother’s employer she rushes down to Venezuela and when she gets there she discovers that her grandmother’s employer lured her there as a trap for Domitian and now she trapped on a tiny island off the Venezuelan coast with the shocking knowledge that the world has vampire like immortals and she is a life mate, the one and only person who is a perfect match physically and mentally for Domitian. There is an unsettling reason behind this mad scientist experiment with Domitian and Sarita they don’t know why yet but they aren’t going to take it laying down. Sarita’s instinct as a police officer has her planning and plotting a way off the island, and Domitian protective instinct has him risking his life to protect his Sarita. 

Overall, this was a great addition to the Argeneau series. Love Domitian and Sarita. It’s a rollercoaster ride exciting and erotic. Domitian is so freakin’ sweet.

ARC Review: Immortal Nights by Lynsay Sands

Two dozen Argeneau books already! Book 24 follows the kidnapped Tomasso Notte, the first half of the story runs parallel with the Dante and Mary’s story, but soon Dante and Mary along with Lucien and Justin join the fun too. Like with the last book so much happens it’s hard to tell which to pick to talk about without spoiling too much of the book. The main character, Abigail Forsythe, I really like her. She is intelligent, quick witted, and she is definitely very caring. Tomasso is a closet geek, I love it. Lynsay Sands as usual has an entertaining plot, a sexy romance, action, and humor. Also a new character, and hopefully a soon to be life mate for some lucky immortal, Jethro. Jet is Abigail’s best friend/brother she never had and it all starts because of him. 

Abigail spent the last couple of years of her life acting as her mother’s caregiver and now her mother has finally succumbed to the cancer. Abigail is all alone and with nothing to do with her life, she’s even doubting whether she wants to go back and finish med school. Jet invites Abs down for a visit and hopefully he can talk her into staying so he can help. Jet is a cargo plane pilot and gets called in for an emergency flight. He sneaks Abs on board in the cargo hold thinking she would be safe. The “cargo” is an unconscious Tomasso. Abigail sets him free, as soon as Tomasso realizes he can’t read her mind he knows he has found his life mate and well let’s just say the fun starts. Especially after they jump out of the plane Abigail hit her head and knocks herself out then they are stranded somewhere on the coast of somewhere, somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. All while Tomasso is fighting his hunger for both blood and for Abigail. Luckily they come across fishermen and get a lift back to civilization, unfortunately Abigail got sick. One of the plethora of mosquito bites she got while stranded was a carrier for a virus, and if not treated correctly can lead to something much worse and even fatal. AND there is a tropical storm keeping them from the hospital. To make matters even more exciting, they didn’t completely lose the henchmen kidnappers either. 

Overall, this was another great Argeneau novel. Tomasso and Abigail are great, so sultry and dirty. Abigail has such a dirty mind. The end hinted at a bunch more stuff that really makes me excited for what’s going to happen next.

ARC Review: Runaway Vampire by Lynsay Sands

I love this series; I started reading it when they first started to come out and I lost track of it; so many books so little time, I found out on Goodreads I’m behind by like twelve books! But have no fear this is a great series it doesn’t matter if you jump in at this point or been reading every single book. If you have never read any of the Argeneau Vampire series, it is unique; and funny since every character argues the fact that they aren’t vampires when the series called Argeneau Vampires. It is unique in the manner of which they are vampires or immortals; decedents of the advanced civilization of Atlantis, and I love that sci-fi aspect of why and how they are the way they are. It’s a very humorous series; each book has that quirk in which makes it different from the others; this book the heroines runs over the hero with her RV; and she is also, for more than half the book, sixty-two years old. I loved the book it was fun, quirky, the characters are easy to sympathize with, and geriatric sexual tension.

Mary Winslow is a widow; she is taking her annual trip south as she usually did with her husband this time however she is only traveling with her dog. Mary along a long stretch of deserted highway late at night hits something. She stops and looks around but doesn’t see anything but has a really bad feeling. She takes note of where she is and leaves intending to notify the police at the next gas station. When she gets to the gas station she discovers a very naked very bloody man in her bathroom. She runs for help but soon everyone who goes in comes right back out a bit later saying that it looked much worse than it really was. Mary is confused and wondering what to do next when the naked man tries to steal her RV.

Dante Notte was in San Antonio investigating missing immortals when he and his twin brother were ambushed, shot with a potent tranquilizer dart and kidnapped. Dante was able to escape but was forced to leave his brother there. Dante was making a run for it when he ran into Mary’s RV. With the kind help of the Samaritans Dante was able to heal enough to make a break for it, but when he tried to control Mary he found that she was immune to his persuasive powers. For an Immortal like him that could only mean one thing, life mate.

Dante never thought this was the way he would find his life mate, but he wasn’t looking a gift horse in the mouth, he was still young by immortal standards he was extremely lucky to find her. Mary on the other hand was still healing from the loss of her husband. She didn’t want to feel the feelings or think the thoughts she was having about Dante, especially since she thought he was only in his twenties. But with the people who still have his brother were out there and still chasing him Dante is forced to tell Mary everything and even though it puts her in danger he has no choice. Dante plays bait, and when it almost kills Mary he does the only thing he can he changes her.

Mary and Dante have a lot to work through, and it is an exciting and adventurous ride along the way. Overall this is a great addition to the series and I definitely have to go back and read the books I’ve missed.

Campbell “Cam” Sinclair sees a young boy being beaten by a thief. He joins the fight and realizes there are two more attackers. He is stabbed in the back by one. Between him and the boy, they defeat the robbers, but Campbell is hurt. The boy is really a girl, Joan, who is a healer. She disguised herself as a boy to make travelling easier. She sets out to tend to her unconscious defender. Leaving him safe, she decides to bathe in the river. Cam wakes, follows the trail, and discovers her secret. He doesn’t say anything and they continue on their journey to Scotland. Joan is on a mission to deliver a scroll left by her dead mother. Cam is friends with the MacKays and promises to take her to them. Joan’s mother, Maggie, was a healer and midwife. She lived in a friary, learned to write, and tended to the sick. Others stay and make their peace with the situation and offer to help Joan by sewing her new clothes. There’s a poisoning attempt on Joan’s life. One woman is mean and insulting and winds up dead. Then a gentle horse rears up and throws Joan. Someone wants Cam bad enough to kill Joan, but who?

Cam starts out by saving Joan’s life and she immediately returns the favor. Their courtship is an interesting dance because they spend so much time alone. He deserves to be happy again and she deserves a loving family. The fact that she is related to the MacKays gives her a built in support system.

Nice taste of a whodunit intertwined with the love story. Marriage has always been a cut throat business, especially with titles, money, and property on the line. Going back home unmarried meant these women were on their way to the convent. Some refused to go quietly and would rather kill the competition.
