ARC Review: The Bed Mate by Kendall Ryan

The Bed Mate by Kendall Ryan is a short novella that takes place in her Roommates series, but it is a standalone story. I love Kendall Ryan's books, and this one was sweet and a great quick read. Maggie and Sam are best friends that have always had something between them, but with Maggie having a boyfriend as well as Sam dating other girls nothing has ever happened between them. Both have never acknowledged that there is anything more than friendship there, but when Maggie finds her boyfriend with someone else, things begin to change for her and Sam.

I really liked these two. The connection and chemistry was there for them the whole way through, and it was clear that they were good together. With a novella being shorter than a novel, I always struggle a bit because it's hard to find a relationship believable in such a short amount of time. Sam and Maggie's relationship was already somewhat established though, and I didn't have any trouble believing that their relationship was genuine. It felt right and these two felt like they belonged together.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I loved the setting of snow and winter fun, and while it isn't a holiday story it really put me in the mood for all things winter. Kendall Ryan is a great writer and I have enjoyed everything I have read from her, especially this series. If you are a bit short on time or are just looking for a great quick light read, I would recommend giving The Bed Mate a shot. Kendall Ryan is a go to author for me, and I always look forward to getting lost in one of her books. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Fall into Romance Event with Author Barbara White Daile

Barbara White Daille lives with her husband in the sunny Southwest. Though they love the warm winters and the lizards in their front yard, they haven’t gotten used to the scorpions in the bathroom. Barbara also loves writing, reading, and chocolate. Come to think of it, she enjoys writing about those subjects, too!

Barbara wrote her first short story at the age of nine, then typed "The End" to her first novel many years later...in the eighth grade. Now she's writing contemporary romance on a daily basis, with a brand-new series from Entangled Bliss (Snowflake Valley), an ongoing series from Harlequin Western Romance (The Hitching Post Hotel), and many more books on the schedule.

ARC Review: Back Piece by L.A. Witt

Back Piece was my first book by L.A. Witt, but I was immediately drawn into the story. I enjoyed it a lot and I liked the characters. This is the first book in Witt's Skin Deep, Inc. series and I am definitely looking forward to reading more. While I did like it, there were a few things that kept this one from being a five star read for me though.

Colin is a tattoo artist with a past he prefers to keep a secret. He keeps things casual and doesn't do commitment so that no one gets close enough to learn the truth about him. But when he meets Daniel at the gym, the shy sailor draws him in like no one has in a long time. Daniel is a virgin and after escaping his conservative family, he is looking to finally start being himself. When he spots Colin with all his tattoos, he knows he wants Colin to be the one to help him out. It starts as Colin helping Daniel to learn about sex and get the ink he has always wanted, but soon it turns to more and both begin to wonder if they could possibly have a future together.

I liked both Daniel and Colin. I thought that they worked really well together and that they were good for one another. Both had vulnerabilities and the other really helped them. It was good to see that they were so real and that they each had things that they knew they needed to work on. I love seeing characters progress from the start of a book to the end, and I really felt like both Daniel and Colin did that here. They were sexy together and had great chemistry, and their connection felt real and true.

I will say though that things were a bit repetitive in this book. It often felt like their insecurities were rehashed over and over, so while I liked to see that they were human, I grew tired of the same thing being done several times. I wanted them to get it and move on after a few times. I also felt like the end of this book was very abrupt and that not everything was as resolved as I would have liked. It seems like they had just basically solved the big conflict when all of a sudden the story just ran out of pages. I would have loved to have seen a bit down the line for them, especially in how things played out with Daniel's family. I do think that this book is worth the read though and I will continue the series. I just wish that it hadn't been so repetitive and would have ended on a stronger note for me.

ARC Review: Dirty Filthy Fix by Laurelin Paige

Laurelin Paige's novella Dirty Filthy Fix brings together two of her series, and it was great! If you are familiar with her Fixed Trilogy series and/or her Dirty Filthy Rich Men series, you are definitely going to want to read this one. If you haven't read them though, don't worry this story can be read as a complete standalone.

By day Trish is secretary to one of New York's most powerful men, Hudson Pierce. She is no stranger to men wanting her and yet she lives a life that no one has a clue about. At work she is prim and proper, with a set of rules she abides by. But by night she owns her sexuality and is capable of bringing even the most powerful man to his knees. When she and Nathan Sinclair, a business partner of her boss, continue to find themselves drawn to one another though, Trish finds it harder to stick to her rules.

These two were smoking hot together and I couldn't get enough of them. There was so much chemistry here, but besides just being super steamy and sexy there was a great connection as well. Laurelin Paige did a wonderful job of writing this short novella in a way that things felt real and genuine without feeling rushed or hard to believe. I often struggle with novellas, but that wasn't the case here. Nate and Trish were both well written characters that I felt invested in, and my only complaint here is that I wanted more.

I loved that these characters went after what they wanted and weren't afraid to be who they are. They owned their desires and that just made them that much sexier. I think that a lot of readers are going to enjoy this one just as much as I did, especially if you are familiar with either of these series from Laurelin Paige. I have loved everything I have read from her, and I can't wait for more. Dirty Filthy Fix is a great sexy read that I highly recommend.
