Guest Post with Author Gina Maxwell and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome back to the blog author Gina Maxwell. Gina is celebrating the recent release of Rules of Entanglement and has stopped by to chat. Please give Gina a warm welcome.

Gina L. Maxwell is a shameless romance addict with no intentions of ever kicking the habit.

Growing up she dreamed of helping people escape reality with her acting abilities…until college when she realized she had none to speak of. Another ten years passed before she discovered a different means to accomplishing the same dream: writing stories of love and passion for addicts just like her.

Her debut novel, Seducing Cinderella, landed on the USA Today and NY Times Bestseller lists in less than a month. Now she splits her time between writing more books and acting as Boss of the world’s first organized romance mafia, the Maxwell Mob.

Thanks to the support she receives from her amazing family, Gina is finally able to live her dream of bringing a little romantic fantasy to the world, one steamy novel at a time.

Places to find Gina:

My favorite kind of hero

With the rise of book boyfriends like Christian Grey and Professor Gabriel Emerson in their three piece suits and their oodles—yes, I said oodles—of money. I see the trend that readers are falling head over heels for the more dapper romance hero. And who wouldn't. For the most part, these heroes are every woman's dream, right? Handsome, wealthy, worldly, intelligent and devoted to the heroines of their story. What more could a woman ask for?

For me, I ask for dirt, grease, and ink. Yup, you heard me.

I'm a sucker for blue collar. Give me a man that works with his hands in a wife beater that's covered with motor oil and grit and I'm done for. I've always love heroes that were a little more "down to earth" so to speak. The idea that a man can fend for himself, either in everyday life or in his career has been a turn on for me from day one. Oh please don't get me wrong, they need to be able to clean up very nice for special occasions, but for the most part, it's a t-shirt and jeans for me. T-shirt optional. You can keep your CEO's. Give me the mechanic that fixes his car. Give me the mechanic with full sleeve tattoos and my clothes will more than likely spontaneously combust. Swirling patterns of personal memories on a man's skin screams sexy to me.

But as I write this, I wonder why? Why is it that I am so fond of heroes that are caked in dirt, wearing articles of clothing that make people think of Jerry Springer and covered in painfully applied artwork? Maybe because these men are the most fun to write. Their brick house exteriors are often protecting the softest, gooiest center of all. Their shell may be tough to crack, but the inside is marshmallow fluff. They can disassemble a transmission and an hour later, want to cuddle after the long, hot shower they pulled you into. They'll take you out to dinner, pull out your chair for you, slow dance while everyone is looking and later that night, fix the leaky faucet that was keeping him from falling asleep with you sprawled across his chest. This is the guy that falls hard for the woman he knows he shouldn't.

Take my latest book, Rules of Entanglement. Jax Maris is the complete opposite of Vanessa MacGregor. She's law and order. He's beer and surfing. She's pencil skirts and Jimmy Choo's. He's tattoos and board shorts. She's the fear of every defendant in the courtroom and he's the worst nightmare of any opponent in the MMA cage. A girl like Vanessa should fall for a Christian Grey or a Professor Emerson.

But it turns out, Vanessa likes her men the way I do. The Cadbury Egg of men, if you will. Deliciously lick-able on the outside, sweet and syrupy on the inside. Now if they could only figure out some way to make tattoos taste like chocolate when you lick them...

Seven days. And seven rules to break...

District Attorney Vanessa McGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned - and it starts with seven rules she's laid out for her future. But as she's organizing her best friend's wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa's best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter...

Jackson "Jax" Maris is focused on surfing, training and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth, and finds himself having to pretend he's engaged to his little sister's best friend, Vanessa. When they're force to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa's long-term plan, he has seven days - and seven naughty nights - to turn her seven-rule plan upside down.

  2. My friends and I were just talking this weekend about the huge lottery jackpot and if we won the first thing we would do is hire a hot gardener and he would have to wear a wifebeater t-shirt! lol I love the fighter theme and loved Seducing Cinderella! I am anxious to read Rules of Engagement and have it on my TBR list.

  4. I like the Cadbury Egg metaphor...excellent!
Question...Have you always gone for the blue collar type guy?
I kinda go for both. I'm married to an attorney who practices independent of partners in a small market. He's no high powered suit but kinda both as he can fix a leaky faucet and just about anything else ;-).

  6. I have to admit i love the CEOs and a well put together hero, but i also love the dirty, inked up heros as well! I guess i just love a good story and each character has things that appeal to me. As long as the story is good, and the characters are great it doesn't much matter to me!
