My First Love Event with Brighton Walsh

Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—one taller than her, one not quite yet—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. Visit her online at brightonwalsh.com.

My first love is the stuff of urban legends—the whole, real love can’t be found at fourteen nonsense grownups try to feed their kids. Real love can and does happen that young—even to “dumb” fourteen year olds.

It all started the week before freshman year was ending. My best friend was throwing an end-of-school party and inviting the guy she had a crush on and omg do you know who X is??

Turned out I did know who X was. Unbeknownst to me, I had a class with him, and once I zoned in on him, I was smitten with his big smile and his full lips and that skater boy haircut (it was the 90s…that was totally in). Apologies for the destruction of my BFF’s crush… #sorrynotsorry

That boy and I held pinkies on our first definitely-not-a-date-because-I-was-only-fourteen to see Speed in the theater. We kissed for the first time on the swing set at my elementary school. We were that gross couple in the hall making googly eyes at each other between classes. We were ripped apart a year into our relationship, but we managed to make long distance work in the time of 10-10-321, before texting and social media. I left my family and moved hundreds of miles for a boy. A boy who eventually proposed on that swing set where we shared our first kiss.

And, reader? I married him.

Aurora "Rory" Haven's life is in shambles. Her ex-husband's living with the woman he cheated with, her oldest daughter blames her for the divorce, and she's broke. To make ends meet, she partners with the too-young, way too hot local contractor she has absolutely no business fantasizing about.

Nash King is working overtime so he can take over the family business. He doesn't need the distraction of his best friend's sister, but the hot-as-hell, pearl-clutching divorcée barrels her way into his everyday life. He's managed to ignore his attraction to her for a decade. What's another couple months?

The summer heat and forced proximity has tempers flaring…and their chemistry sizzling. But Havenbrook's gossip mill is churning full-force, and the last thing Rory needs is everyone speculating over her crush on a man eight years her junior. Except crushing doesn't have anything on what's really going on…

What would happen if the townspeople found out paint wasn't the only thing being stripped?

  1. I met my hubby when I was 17, he was 18. We went to different colleges. Back then we had to pay long distance once a week to talk...but we wrote a lot of letters! It took 7 years before we finally got married and next month we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary so I get the young love! :)
