Review: Where Words Fail by Katheryn Kiden

I have been trying to write this review and get my thoughts together, and honestly the name of the book seems to be pretty accurate. Where Words Fail by Katheryn Kiden was not at all what I was expecting going in, and even though the blurb is accurate, the book is so much more than just that. I feel like I didn't really have a clue what I was in for because of everything that happened, but I did end up enjoying this story. I think that this book is going to be one of those that people either really get into or they can't get into at all. I will admit that this one was completely over the top and the story to me was really far fetched. But for me even though it was both far fetched and over the top, I didn't have a problem with the story. I took it for what it was and was able to enjoy this one simply as a book with made up characters and situations and a way to spend a few hours of my time.

Abby Irons co-owns Ironsound Records with her twin brother Alex, and she is also the lead singer for the hugely popular band Thirty Ought Six. When her lead guitarist has to leave the band to go to rehab, he hand picks their new guitarist. When Jameson Williams shows up to join the tour of his new band, he is shocked to find the lead singer is his high school girlfriend and also the girl whose heart he broke years ago. He never got a chance to explain why he left her and he has never stopped loving her. At first Abby doesn't recognize him, and it isn't until later that she finds out who he really is. After Jameson had left her, Abby's already hard life fell apart even further. Now she is trying to make it through the tour with Jameson while dealing with her brother's illness and her niece. But when someone from her past shows up and threatens everything she has worked for, will she and Jameson be able to make it through and have a shot at a future together? Or will the past be too much for them to get over?

I really liked Jameson. He had reasons for doing what he had done and unfortunately he wasn't really given much of a choice in how he dealt with everything. It was hard to see him suffer because of things that were beyond his control. I did think that he could have done a few things differently, but it was clear that he really cared about Abby and had done what he thought was best for her after he had broken her heart. He was sweet and kind, and I loved that he was protective of her and always stood up for her. He was a great match for her and he seemed to always see through to who she really was and not just the front that she put up. I also really liked that he had no problem admitting his feelings and taking his time with her. He was patient and was willing to do things how she needed to do them. Abby was vulnerable and had been through so much. This poor girl just couldn't catch a break. She was constantly dealing with a million things, and I felt so bad for her. I liked that she was always such a rock for those around her though, and you could tell that she would do anything for those that she cared about. I will admit that she didn't ever really seem like a huge rock star to me though, she was just this normal girl who happened to sing for a really popular band. I liked that she was a bit rough around the edges though, and that made her easier to relate to. She wasn't afraid to cuss or say what was on her mind, and she had a tendency to fight and get in some trouble. I thought that her and Jameson were really natural together and they just seemed to fit. They were perfect for each other and had a lot of chemistry. I liked that they were able to still have a great connection after being apart for so long.
I did mention that this one was far fetched though, so here is what I had some problems with. I thought that it was pretty ridiculous that she wouldn't have recognized the guy that she was in love with but her brother would. Her brother had only met Jameson a few times, and yet he was still able to see that it was him after all that time but she somehow had no clue. That just didn't make sense to me. She also didn't even remember that his name was actually Jameson and not Jamie like she used to call him. I also felt like there was just too much going on in this story. It was literally one thing after another, and I found it to be completely unbelievable. This girl is only in her twenties, and the amount of things that she had to go through was insane. I really felt like there were several things that came completely out of left field and could have been left out of the story. There was enough drama and obstacles in this book that some of these things could have been left out. There were several times that something would happen and I would roll my eyes because of it. This book was well written though, and I did really like the characters. I loved Alex's little girl Izzy, and she completely stole the show. I'm not sure that a normal six year old would have been as intelligent and self aware at that age, but I loved her regardless. I also really liked the other members of the band, and I can't wait to get to see more of Tuesday and Evan. (Abby's best friend and Jameson's brother) I know it sounds like there was a lot that didn't work for me or that I didn't like, but really these characters were so likable and easy to get invested in that I really was able to lose myself in the story. I would recommend that if you are interested in reading this book that you go into it knowing that this isn't going to be like real life and that there is a lot that goes on that is not believable. Jameson and Abby are worth the read though, and I can't wait to read Freeing Tuesday next.

ARC Review: Highway Don't Care by Lani Lynn Vale

I went into Highway Don't Care by Lani Lynn Vale without having read the first book in the series, so I really had no idea what to expect or what these characters were like. This book being the second in the Freebirds series, the characters already had established relationships between them. I might not have known everyone right off or how the relationships were, but it didn't take me long to figure things out. I really didn't have any problems reading this one as a standalone, but I will admit that I want to go back now and read the first book. I am sure that it would give me a much better idea of all the backgrounds on the characters and how they were all interconnected. I really enjoyed this book though, so not only do I want to go back and read Cheyenne and Sam's story, but I also want to read about Ember's brother Max in the next book as well.

Gabe and Ember both have had feelings for each other for awhile, but neither of them has done anything about it. They not only haven't told each other that they like each other, but they have barely ever spoken. One night when Ember is attacked, her first reaction is to turn to Gabe for help. After finding out that Ember is in danger from a local gang, he decides that Ember will stay with him while they find those responsible for hurting her and makes them pay. Ember and Gabe quickly realize that they have a very strong connection between them and there is no way that either of them will let go of the other. But the local gang isn't the only obstacle that they have to face. When Gabe's crazy ex-girlfriend shows back up, they find themselves with a battle they never expected. Can Gabe and Ember escape danger and the obstacles in their way and have a future together?

I loved Gabe! He was a sexy possessive alpha who looks out for those that he loves. You could tell that he would do absolutely anything for those that he cared about. He was so protective and I loved that he was able to open up to Ember. It was great to see such a manly man that wasn't afraid to admit his feelings or show Ember that he really cared about her. Ember was feisty and snarky, and I loved her quick wit. She was so much fun to root for, and I really loved her friendship with Cheyenne. I thought that she was the perfect match for Gabe, and they were exactly what the other needed. They complimented each other so well, that there was no doubt that they belonged together. I loved how they supported each other and were always there for each other. They weren't afraid to tell the other the truth and give them a push when they needed it. They also had smoking hot chemistry and absolutely steamed up my Kindle!

Overall, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this book and can't believe that I hadn't heard of Lani Lynn Vale before. Vale might have been a new to me author before, but I can't wait to read more from her in the future. I really liked this story and I love the characters. These are not your typical heroes and heroines, and I loved how unique and real they all were. I loved watching them all interact, and I liked that they were such a tight group. They were all there for each other, and they had a great camaraderie between them. I think that this book is one that a lot of romance fans will really enjoy, and I would highly recommend that you read this if you are looking for some sexy scenes, alpha heroes, and just the right amount of action! This one grabbed my attention right from the start and didn't let go until the very end. I loved Vale's writing style, and thought that the story flowed so well that I had a tough time putting it down because I just wanted to keep reading and was lost in the story. I will definitely be reading more from Vale in the future!

Review: Freeing Tuesday by Katheryn Kiden

Freeing Tuesday is the second book in Katheryn Kiden's Save Me Series. I really liked Tuesday in Where Words Fail and I was really intrigued by Evan. I have to admit that I really enjoyed this story and I thought it was even better than the first book in the series. This story sucked me in right from the start and I loved it. This book can be read as a standalone, but I would really recommend reading Where Words Fail first so that you get to know all the characters and that way the story isn't spoiled.

Tuesday works for her best friend Abby behind the scenes of her record company and the hit band that Abby is lead singer for. The members of the band have become her family, and as much as she cares about them she hasn't told them anything about her past. Despite her amazing singing voice, Tuesday refuses to sign with Abby's company out of fear of her past catching up with her. She doesn't allow anyone close enough to risk them getting hurt, but all that changes when she meets Evan. Evan quickly becomes her best friend and as much as she wants more from him, she refuses to put him in danger and she also refuses to ruin their friendship by sleeping with him. Evan is used to sleeping with as many girls as he wants whenever he wants. He has never wanted more until Tuesday. Evan and Tuesday try to keep their feelings in check and remain just friends, but before long they are unable to fight the connection between them. As things start to heat up, Tuesday's past resurfaces and leaves all of them in danger. Can they fight their way through, or will Tuesday do what she has always done and run and hide?

I really liked Evan. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to though. I had been intrigued by him before, but at the start of this book he is a total manwhore. He literally slept with pretty much anyone and it really irritated me that he even did it in front of Tuesday or he would leave her in order to be with someone else. I really didn't take his feelings for her seriously at first because of it, but he won me over. Once he really made the decision to be with Tuesday and admitted his feelings, he was fully committed to her. He was so patient with her and he was extremely supportive. For never having been with a girl that he saw a future with, it really surprised me how good he was at being in a serious relationship. He really believed in not only her, but in their future together and he wasn't afraid to stand up for her and fight for their relationship. I loved that he never gave up on her even when others did. Tuesday was really complex, and she had been through so much. She tried to keep walls up to protect herself, but she wasn't able to do that with Evan. Tuesday tried to not only protect herself, but also those she cared for. She was always worried about those around her and was willing to hurt herself in order to do what she thought was best for everyone else. I thought that she and Evan were perfect for each other, and they just seemed to belong together. They had a ton of chemistry and were smoking hot together, but they also had such a strong natural connection to one another.

Overall, I thought that this book was really great. It is definitely my favorite of the series so far, and I thought that it was really well written. I had some problems with the first book, but this one was completely different and I was really able to get into it right away. Tuesday and Evan really captured my attention and didn't let go until I was finished. I did feel as though then ending was a bit abrupt though after everything had been resolved, and I just hoped for a little more. I would have liked to see how things played out for Tuesday and Evan after everything had come to a head and I think that even with the epilogue things felt a bit unfinished. I am curious to see where things go in the future of this series though, and I can already tell that Vanessa and Jason are going to be interesting to read about. They have a serious enemies to lovers vibe going, and I am curious to see if all that tension will ignite between them! I really like this series, and these stories are ones that I feel invested in right away. They really draw my attention and don't let go until the very end, and I would recommend them if you are looking for a different or unique read. These characters are flawed and complex, and are so real and believable. I think that is what appeals to me the most about these books is that they are just so easy to relate to. I look forward to reading more from Katheryn Kiden in the future.
