ARC Review: Ruined by Shiloh Walker

If you have read any of my reviews for Shiloh Walker books you know I love her, if you haven’t you know now. I was almost hesitant with this one because when first reading a description for it I assumed the age gap between Marin and Seb was going to be a much larger gab, like cougar kind of thing. It’s not my thing I was worried about it, thankfully the age gab is only seven years and that just fine to me. (My issue has more to do with a maturity level thing not as much of an age difference thing). As always Ms. Walker has created a story with the right amount of strife, a male protagonist who is his own antagonist and is aggravatingly broody but sexy as hell. A strong female faced with issues out of her control and refusing to face the other issues that arise that should have been easy to handle but other people making it difficult. It was amusing some of the things that happened, it makes you laugh or roll your eyes at the idiocy of the characters at points.

The book starts off with Sebastian being rejected by Marin. She is past the point of parties and having a good time just because she can. She’s ready to settle down, and even though she really likes Seb he’s still a young hot thing that likes to go out and party. Seb after getting rejected by the one woman he has always loved is wallowing in his own misery when his life violently changes. His ex-fiancé’s husband attacks them both in a vicious and bloody fight. Ultimately Seb is the only survivor. A year later Sebastian has successfully isolated himself and alienated everyone in the family. The only one that keeps coming back, the only one he will actually talk to is Marin.

In the passing year Marin has seen Seb change from the playboy, happy go lucky, Sexiest Man Alive, beloved actor to the depressed, brooding, scarred drunk that he is now. But Marin promised the Barnes family she would get him there for Zane’s wedding and for Trey’s wedding. And she did, and because of it Seb started to realize life goes on, he stopped drinking, and he’s even talking to other people now. But one badly times internet search and he falls back into the bottle and things change again this time with Marin. At the same time Seb gets offered the part he’s always wanted but he was never right for the part now he his and his leading lady is Marin. Communication is a funny thing it only works when you let people talk and when you are willing to listen. Seb and Marin have a tough road but it is emotional and funny and a wonderful story.

Overall, it went too quickly, I wish I had savored it when I was reading it I didn’t want it to end. BUT I am really, really looking forward to Travis’ book.

ARC Review: Busted by Shiloh Walker

Busted is book three of Shiloh Walker’s Barnes Brothers series. I love Shiloh Walker, everything I have read as Shiloh and as J.C. Daniels I love. The Barnes Brothers hit the jack pot in the genetic lottery, they are all drop dead gorgeous and excel in whatever they do. It’s a great family and I love family orientated series even big famous ones like the Barnes’.

Trey Barnes author/father extraordinaire is so caught up with the grief over the death of his wife and raising his son he hasn’t even looked at another woman he has tried he dated but nothing has felt right that is until he drops his son off at the library and meets Ressa Bliss, of course he doesn’t find out her name for a couple of months. Ressa has a past one she wishes she could forget especially the guilt, but everything she does now is about raising her little cousin. Lusting from afar on both their parts last for the better part of a year until Ressa is helping out with a writer’s convention and finally finds out who the hottie with the adorable little boy is none other than an author she loves. One hot and steamy night cement their feelings for each other but with Ressa’s past she worries about what that will do to the famous author and his even more famous brothers. She plays it off as it was just suppose to be a one night deal. Until they find out her cousin and his son are in the same Kindergarten class. Trey admits his feelings for her and how, for the first time in five years he is feeling sexual about a woman and he wants to explore the chance for the relationship. After they clear the air about everything it seems like everything is hunky dory until both of their past come out and try to tear them apart.

Overall this was a great read, what starts as a light read but has slight dark over tones but isn’t terribly dark. I loved the characters and the storyline and the past histories are great, I love the hinting at Travis’ story I can’t wait for it.

ARC Review: Razed by Shiloh Walker

Razed book two in Shiloh Walkers Barnes Brothers continues with Zane and Keelie. It isn’t necessary to read the first book in the series but to better understand the history between Keelie and the Zach Barnes. The story is very light for a Shiloh Walker novel; I have gotten use to a dark aspect to her stories and this one in comparison to some of her other is a bit lighter. In parts was a bit slow but still enjoyable for me. I love the Barnes brothers, when they find “The One” they know it and don’t give up until she is theirs. Zane I love (and not just because I love the name Zane) he has a dark past that he has hid from his family, but it has helped shape him as a person.

Kellie has a bit of a dark past that keeps her from completely showing her true self; she hides behind her tattoos and a snarky bitch persona. Keelie use to think she was in love with Zach and after a bland kiss she finally let go and gave in to the idea that Zach was meant to be with someone else. At Zach’s wedding Zane finally makes his move on the woman he hasn’t been able to forget about. Keelie gives in to Zane’s kiss, and unexpectedly she gets the zap and tingle she always expected to feel with Zach. Zane lets go of Keelie for now but three months later Zane is moving his life to be closer to her and to finally start living as a full time photographer. To help Keelie open up Zane reveals his dark past to her, opening old wounds. The Barnes Brothers become suspicious about her past when a PI calls looking for an heiress with the exact description of Keelie. Zane helps Keelie admits that her past is in the past and that she needs to face it and finally let go. With Zane understanding Keelie is finally able to move on. But Zane getting Keelie to admit she loves him is another matter and he won’t stop until she does.

ARC Review: Wrecked by Shiloh Walker

If I'm completely honest, I'm bummed that I'm finished with this book. I was not ready to be done with Abby and Zach. They had such great chemistry with one another that it was a pleasure to read their story.

I'm a sucker for the friends to lover's troupe and this one was done oh so well. This is one of my favorite books that I've read in a while and I can't wait to read more. I seriously hope that this book is part of a series because I loved the world and the characters that encompass it. Shiloh Walker introduced us to many characters that I definitely would love to see more of.

The sparks between Abby and Zach are explosive and their scenes tend to jump off the page. I liked that there really weren't any mind games or plots twists. It's a story of two best friends finally realizing that the love they have for one another transcends friendship and becomes so much more than either bargained for.

What makes Wrecked such a great story is the characters. Abby is great and I loved seeing her transformation from an uptight chick to someone that is able to let loose and become comfortable in her own skin.

And Zach...oh Zach, how I love him. He really made the book for me. I'm so glad that he got his HEA. Zach has been in love with Abby for seventeen years. Yes, seventeen years. In that time he has been Abby's best friend and confidant. All the while always wanting to more and waiting for his chance to make his move. What I like the most about Zach, is that he doesn't make excuses and isn't ashamed of his feelings or the fact that he's been in love with his best friend for so long. There is nothing that he wouldn't for Abby and I loved that about him. He never wavers in his feelings though I do wish he didn't have to wait so long for his chance to make a move.

Yes, parts of this story are predictable but it's such a charming read that you forget all about that. I had a smile on my face through the whole book and I found I never wanted to put the book down. I simply adored this book from beginning to end.

Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious works of fiction. She loves reading and writing just about every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest. She writes romantic suspense and paranormal romance, and urban fantasy under the name J.C. Daniels.

ARC Review: Hot In Handcuffs by Shayla Black, Sylvia Day and Shiloh Walker

Hot In Handcuffs is a book comprised of three different novellas.

Arresting Desire by Shayla Black

Jon has been wanting Lucia ever since he met her two years ago, but he was working undercover at the time and she was too young and inexperienced. So Jon left without ever touching her. Now Jon is back and Lucia doesn't look so young anymore and Jon is bound to prove to Lucia that he does desire and want her.

Lucia always wanted her first time to be with Jon, but when she all but threw herself at him and he denied her she got the message. Now she's about to embark on a trip with her best friend and is determined to lose her v-card no mater what. What she doesn't expect is to see Jon again and looking oh so yummy.

When she is sent a birthday gift from her father who has been dead for the past two years, Jon believes that this may be just the information he needs to help exonerate his brother.

Together they embark on a mission to solve the mystery while at the same time explore the feelings and passion they ignite in one another.

This was story was so good. I now understand what the big deal is about Shayla Black. She completely rocked my world and in such a a good way. I could not stop reading. I was hooked from the first page. She had just the right amount of suspense mixed in with the romance. I like that we were shown a bit of the characters past. I was able to get a good feel for them both. I loved the chemistry between Lucia and Jon. The chemistry between the two was hot and their sex scenes were electric. I will definitely be checking out more from Shayla.

On Fire by Sylvia Day

Wow oh wow, but this was one HOT story. There were quite a few parts that had me fanning myself because the scenes between Jared and Darcy were so scorching hot. The passion between them is intense and immediate. It didn't feel phony or rushed at all. Seriously, these two were hot together and I loved it.

There have been a series of arson attacks in Lion's Bay lately and Darcy, one of the towns fire inspectors knows they need to get help with solving the case. So they decide to call in the US Marshall's in for help with the investigation.

Deputy Marshall Jared Cameron has been sent to Lion's Bay to help investigate a series of arson attacks that have been occurring. He never expected to come across bombshell Darcy Michaels in his investigation. One look at Darcy and his blood is pumping and he know that he needs to make his move. She has a fire about her that can't be tamed and Jared just wants some of it.

What was supposed to be a one night stand is quickly turning into more, and neither Jared nor Darcy quite know what to make of it. Both feel an insane amount of passion and desire, but on top of that both are quickly realizing that their feelings of lust are becoming so much more. Will either be able to walk away when the investigation is through?

The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker

This was the first time I have read anything by this author and I have definitely been missing out. OMG, but this story was so good. There was just so much pain and emotion flowing between Mica and Colby. And let me just say I will never be able to listen to Hero by Enrique Iglesias again and not think of this story.

I loved the connection between Mica and Cobly. It just jumped off of the page and slaps you in the face. They have a complicated past both with and without the other. Once they were partners in the FBI and shared a special psychic connection. Not only were they working partners, but they were partners in the bedroom and things were pretty hot and heavy. Things were going great until all of a sudden Mica bowed out without an explanation. She never really excepted or understood her psychic gift and it along with her relationship with Colby freaked her out so she ran and has been running for the last fifteen years. Now Mica, a lieutenant in the police force is working on a case that will bring her face to face with the past she longs to forget.

Colby has spent the last fifteen years thinking about Mica. He was in love with her and has never felt the connection that they shared with anyone else. He assumed when she left that she would eventually come back, maybe not to the FBI, but at least to him and what they shared together. But when she stayed away he got the message loud and clear. Now Mica is back and she wants Colby's help solving a rash of gruesome murders. Colby doesn't want to help, he's been out of the FBI for two years after a mission went bad but can't say know to Mica. He knows that without his help something terrible could happen so he reluctantly agrees.

Both soon find that even though it's been fifteen years, the passion still ignites fires and the connection is still strong as ever. Colby is bound and determined to make Mica realize that her curse is indeed a gift and that she won't be able to just walk away for both it and Colby this time.

Overall

This book as a whole was just so freaking good! I normally don't read these authors but you better believe I will definitely be on a lookout for their books from now on. Each novella was so good that I found myself unable to stop reading once I started.

What I liked most about Hot In Handcuffs is that each story felt complete. Even though they were novellas, they didn't feel rushed or as if info was missing. To be honest, I feel so good about each story that I don't even want more. Each had a beginning, middle and end and I feel like I can walk away completely satisfied which normally isn't the case for me when I read novellas. Each story felt like a full length novel and I found myself completely engrossed with each.

My only complaint(it's a small one) is the last story felt as if it didn't mesh as well with the first two stories. The first two stories were very erotic and the last story was not as erotic and definitely more dark. But I loved it regardless. This book definitely made me fans of each author.
