ARC Review: Down & Dirty by Tracy Wolff

I have really loved books by Tracy Wolff in the past and I am always looking forward to seeing what she comes up with. I have to say though that Down & Dirty is not my favorite book of hers. While I did like some things about this one, I also had some issues with the story.

Emerson is already getting off to a rough start when she finds herself running late for her new job and gets sprayed with water by a driver hitting a puddle. She soon realizes that the driver is none other than star quarterback Hunter Browning. Hunter is immediately drawn to her and wants her, so he sets out to hire her as his real-estate agent to win her over and help save her job. But can he convince her to give them a shot and take her off the market?

I have to admit there were times here that I really struggled with Hunter's character. He was so arrogant and cocky at times. He thought he was God's gift to women, and couldn't understand if women weren't falling all over him with the drop of a hat. Emerson was better, being feisty and strong. These two had a lot of chemistry and were super hot together. That was definitely the one thing that I didn't have any issues with. Tracy Wolff knows how to write some steamy scenes, and Down & Dirty definitely delivered on that. I do feel like when it came to the story and the characters though that things were pretty surface deep and I would have liked more. 

Overall, this one was good but it wasn't everything I had been hoping for. While there were things I liked, it was just okay and I was left wanting more. If you are looking for something quick and sexy, you might give this one a shot.

ARC Review: Flawed by Tracy Wolff

This book claims to be the fourth in the “Ethan Frost” series but trust me you don’t need to read any of the other books in the series to read this one. I read like two of the Ethan Frost books and I’m positive you don’t need to read those first. In even better news, if you had gotten really sick of the Ethan Frost books like I was, this book has a totally new storyline to offer so you can judge it on its own merit.

This is the story of Chloe and Miles. Chloe has hated Miles because he is the brother of her best friend and Chloe doesn’t know all the details of that relationship. Chloe made some assumptions about Miles that just weren’t true. Miles’ reaction was pretty predictable. If you treat a guy like you hate him, he’s likely to hate you back. In addition, Chloe is a recovering party girl who was very sexually free. Chloe always thought she was just partying but in this book she has to face some hard truths about herself and the choices she made.

Chloe and Miles are thrown together when Chloe’s past come’s back to hunt her and she has to flee to her best friend’s house where Miles is also staying. And that’s where the fun starts. Let me just first say that Chloe got a raw deal in every sense of the expression. If you don’t feel sorry for her then you just don’t feel at all. The way Chloe’s father treated her was particularly egregious. I did like that the author made the connection between the way Chloe’s father treated her and the treatment she expected from men. As for Miles, he is trying to make up for the past when he felt like he didn’t do enough to protect his sister. So Chloe is in need of some protecting and Miles is just the guy to give it to her.

There is no small amount of angst in this book. The couple is locked in a war of Chloe feeling the need to figure things out for herself and Miles wanting to give her everything she never got from a man. And in between all that, the two can’t decide if they want to screw each other or slap each other. I liked Chloe and Miles together and I enjoyed their story. The chemistry is there with this couple from the beginning and the way Miles tries to fix Chloe’s effed up life is everything you could want in a man. 

I was mildly annoyed by Chloe sometimes. Her need to do it on her own when she didn’t have a pot to piss in just really got under my skin. Heroines who won’t accept help when they clearly need it is one of my personal pet peeves. All that aside, this is a pretty good contemporary romance with some twists and turns and a couple you will be rooting for.

ARC Review: Lyric & Lingerie by Tracy Wolff and Katie Graykowski

Tracy Wolff is one of my preferred authors so I was really excited to read something new by her. The last TW book I read was "Love Game" and that was absolutely outstanding (you need to read it). Maybe because that was my last book by one of the two authors of this book (the other author is Katie Graykowski), I had really high expectations. And maybe because I had really high expectations, I was susceptible to to being disappointed. All that being said, I really felt like this book did not live up to its potential and it certainly did not live up to what I thought I would get from Wolff as an author.

The book started out sort of promising. Lyric is really off beat and tons of fun. She is a series of mishaps and interesting events gone wrong. Lyric is also a genius who quotes facts when she is feeling anxious. I thought the banter in the book was going to be enough to carry the day. The male lead, Heath, added some alpha spice to the book and brought his own brand of angst. Heath and Lyric have a history. The thing I liked about that is that Heath thinks he and Lyric have a certain history without realizing that it is actually something totally different. Heath things he slept with Lyric's twin but it was actually Lyric.

So with the great set up how did things go wrong? The authors spent entirely too much time on what seemed like side issues. For example, the book begins with a completely outrageous incident where Lyric splits open her dress and has to be wrapped in tape. At first it was really funny but the issues with the dress go one for like the first 20% of the book. By the time I got through it, I had lost interest in the romance plot, it was just too much. The same thing actually applies to the parts of the book that were supposed to be about the romance. There is a lot of talking about random topics...I mean very random. It takes forever to get to the part of the book where the main characters are actually focused on their relationship. To be honest, by the time the relationship was developing, I had just lost interest. Lyric was too quirky. Heath was too clueless. This wasn't a terrible book but it really could have been much better.

ARC Review: Lovegame by Tracy Wolff

I have read other books by Tracy Wolff but none of those should determine your expectations of this book. Lovegame is a completely different offering from this author. The foundation for the story was so well laid from the beginning of the book, I actually worried that the book would not be able to live up to its own hype. I worried for nothing, this book was extraordinary writing and storytelling from the first page to the last page.

I'm going to limit the amount of information I give you about the details of the story because there are a lot of twist and turns and I don't want to accidentally spoil anything. What I can tell you is that Veronica and Ian are two of the most complex, well constructed characters I have encountered. Veronica is an actress but what you see in the book is a person who is actually terrified of her own self. Veronica's self fear and to some extent hatred is what provides the context for a world of conflict between Ian and Veronica. It is actually Ian's job to see beyond Veronica's very carefully constructed facade. Since it is Veronica's mission to protect the facade, you can see how that would be a problem.

Ian has his own less obvious sub-identity which adds another layer of drama to the book. Ian has sexual desires which he has managed to ignore or repress until he meets Veronica. This is actually one of my favorite things about this book. Both Ian and Veronica were each others keys. They opened each others doors to everything the other wanted but never thought they could have.

If you add to the ongoing conflict between Ian and Veronica as they both seek cover from each other and themselves, the mystery of whether Veronica is losing her mind, this book feels more like an erotic psychological thriller. This is a perfect combination for readers like me. I love intense sex but mystery and suspense are a close second and third. I felt like not a single page of this book is wasted. Every detail is building up to little revelations and some major revelations as well. Nothing turns out the way you think. No matter how you feel about the characters, especially Veronica, you have to reserve judgment because it might not be what you think.

I was on the edge of my seat rooting for Veronica and Ian by the time this book was over. I was like hell, if these two can make it, we all have a shot at love. I was totally invested in these characters and this story. This is one of those books that makes it hard to move on to the next book because it's just that exceptional.A word of advice, don't judge this book by what you think you know about the author or even from the summary. If you are into erotic romance and you like suspense and complex characters, just give this one a try. I think you will be happy you did.

ARC Review: Fade Into You by Tracy Wolff

Fade Into You is the third book in the Shaken Dirty series by Tracy Wolff, and I have been waiting what feels like forever to get my hands on Wyatt's book. As with the previous two books in the series, this is a standalone story. I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series if possible though, as Wyatt's character especially has been through so much over the course of this series. It isn't necessary, but I think that readers will appreciate this one so much more if they see Wyatt's progress from the beginning. 

Having just been released from rehab again, Wyatt Jennings and his band Shaken Dirty are hoping that the third time is the charm. Not only is Shaken Dirty preparing to go on tour, but they are also trying to find a new bassist for the band. Wyatt hits it off with the band's new social media consultant Poppy, and things between them help him avoid looking for a fix. But Poppy isn't actually a social media consultant, but really the label CEO's daughter sent to babysit Wyatt and make sure that he doesn't fall off the wagon. But as Poppy and Wyatt's feelings for one another grow, Poppy knows that she will do whatever it takes to not only help Wyatt, but to also help Shaken Dirty. The longer things go on between them, the more she begins to worry that when the truth about her comes out it could have a devastating effect on Wyatt. 

I have had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Wyatt over the course of this series. At times I have absolutely hated his actions and how he handled things, and yet it was also impossible for me to truly hate him as it was all due to his addiction. I so badly wanted for him to turn his life around, and I kept waiting for him to wake up and find the strength inside himself that I knew he had. I really got to know him better here, and I loved him even more than I had before. Poppy was really great for him, and I really loved how supportive she was of him. She was great for the band as well, and she fit in with all of them right away. I did feel as though her and Wyatt's connection was a bit too instant here and it did feel rushed, but it wasn't entirely unbelievable either. It was clear that these two were great together, and their chemistry was really strong. I just wish that we had seen their connection grow a bit more without it seeming to have just popped up out of nowhere. 

Besides Wyatt and Poppy's connection feeling a bit rushed, the ending felt the same way to me. It was a bit too abrupt in my opinion, and I would have liked to have seen a bit more down the road. While I did have issues with those things, I really did enjoy this story. I love this series and the guys of Shaken Dirty are some of my favorite rockstars ever! I know with each book that the camaraderie and friendship is going to be every bit as good as the chemistry and romance. I also love the emotion that Tracy Wolff brings to each of these stories, and I can't get enough of these guys. I really hope that we get more books in this series as I don't know that I will ever be able to let them go. I really liked the addition of Drew to the band, and I look forward to reading more from Tracy Wolff in the future.

ARC Review: Slashed by Tracy Wolff

Slashed is the third book in the Extreme Risk series from Tracy Wolff, with each book being a standalone novel. This new adult series centers around a group of pro snowboarders that are all friends. You do not have to read these in order, but you do get to see how things progress if you start at the beginning. Slashed features best friends Cam and Luc, but you do get to see the characters from the previous books here. 

Cam Bradley and Luc Jennings are best friends. They do everything together and know each other better than anyone. But after they cross the line of friendship one night and sleep together, things are immediately different. Luc has been pining after her for years, but when Cam ran from him and left the morning after they were together, he knew that he couldn't sit around and watch her with anyone else. But Cam has always seen Luc as her friend while she has pined for their other friend Z. But when Cam's life begins to fall apart, she turns to Luc knowing that he always has her back. Can Luc finally get her to see him as more than just a friend, or is he better off moving on once and for all?

I liked these two a lot, but they were absolutely horrible at communicating with one another. For best friends that knew each other better than anyone and could talk about anything, they really didn't do much talking. Cam was one of the guys, top athlete and could hang with the best of them. But she wasn't seen as the girl that everyone wanted. She had wanted their friend Z, but finally figured out that he was more of a crush and belonged with someone else. It took her awhile to really see Luc though, and I wanted her to see just how much he was into her. But I also put some of that blame on Luc, because rather than talk to her about his feelings he chose to just ignore and avoid her. Luc should have talked to her, especially after their night together when things between them got so complicated. I felt like these two were great together when they were together, and they definitely had a great connection and a ton of chemistry. But they didn't talk and spent most of this book apart or fighting.

I also felt like we didn't really get a lot dealt with here, and it sort of felt like things were unfinished. The stuff with Cam's mother reappearing was left mostly unresolved, and I really wanted to see that all dealt with. There was also the big issue that arose here causing even more conflict between Cam and Luc, and while the ending was a happy one, I wanted to see down the line for these two and how that all played out. The ending was abrupt and rushed, and I would have loved another chapter or two, or even an epilogue. So while there was plenty to like here, this one just felt as though it was missing something for me. I wanted to love it, but I was left unsatisfied even with the happy ending. I have really loved books by Tracy Wolff, but some of these problems seem to be recurring themes with her books. For some reason the endings always feel rushed and as though too many things are hanging in the air. Not cliffhangers, but just unfinished. If the next book in the series was about these two that would be one thing, but with each book being about a different couple it just never feels quite right to me. I do love the sports aspect to these NA books though, and I really like the characters. I think that these are worth the read, but I just want a bit more.

ARC Review: Exposed by Tracy Wolff

Exposed is the third book in the Ethan Frost series by Tracy Wolff. In order to understand this book you will need to have read the previous books, Ruined and Addicted, before starting this one. I have a really tough time figuring out where to start with this review. I absolutely loved the first book in this series. I loved Ethan and Chloe flaws and all, and I could tell that they belonged together right away. But in the second book, I felt like it was a lot of the same thing over and over. Unfortunately, there was a bit of that here too. Though there was some progress made, there were also a lot of the same things I had issues with before on repeat.

Ethan has Chloe back in his life, and he will do whatever it takes to protect her. Though Chloe wants nothing more than to move forward and try to leave the past behind, Ethan is determined to get revenge. He wants his brother to pay for what he has done, and he will stop at nothing to make sure that happens one way or another. The more his obsession with revenge begins to take over his life, the more Ethan risks losing Chloe for good.

I honestly don't know who annoyed me more in this book, Ethan or Chloe. Chloe continued to be insecure and overreacted to things, resulting in a melt down and an inevitable apology. Though at least this time around she didn't fully run from Ethan. (even if she did leave him in a different city and returned to Ethan's house without so much as a call, text, or note...seriously who does that?) Though at times their relationship seemed to be making progress, they would still inevitably screw things up in the same ways they have throughout the past two books, and at this point that is getting really old. Ethan promised to give Chloe complete honesty this time around, and most of the time he did...at least when she directly asked him. When she didn't though, he continued his mission for revenge and his "protection" of her and felt it was okay to keep things from her. Because apparently lying by omission is different than just flat out lying. 

While Ethan and Chloe still had all the attraction and chemistry that we have come to expect from them, the first half of the book was pretty much sex followed by declarations of love followed by more sex. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. The entire first half of the book felt like that is all there was, and I really believe that it could have been reduced to a few chapters of that without losing anything necessary to the story. The second half of the book things did start to pick up though, and that is where the real story started to happen. While I enjoyed the second half, I really wish that it would have started sooner, because now we are left the same as we have been at the end of the two previous books. Things are left unresolved and we have to go through another long wait to finally get the answers that could have been given in this book had we not wasted time on seeing these two have so much sex and tell each other how much they loved one another. Though I am not against that, it does get old when that is literally all that happens for half of a book. I hadn't known prior to reading this book that another book in this series was coming out and I believed that this was the final story. Flawed will be the next installment though and is scheduled for a December 2015 release. I really hope that it will be the final book in this series, because honestly things keep going downhill for me when it comes to these characters. What started off fantastic has turned into something that seems to be drawn out and repetitious to the point of killing everything I loved to begin with. I really want these characters to get the ending they deserve and I am hoping that will happen in Flawed, because I am not sure that I can handle much more of the same when it comes to these characters.

ARC Review: Addicted by Tracy Wolff

Addicted is the second book about Ethan Frost and Chloe Girard and should only be read after you have read Ruined. Beware there will be spoilers from Ruined in this review and that you should stop reading if you don't want to know anything. If you have read any of my reviews of her books before, you know that I am a huge Tracy Wolff fan. Pretty much everything that she has written I have read and absolutely loved at this point. That being said, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Addicted because I loved Ethan so much in Ruined. He is one of my all time favorite characters, and I couldn't wait for more of him. However after reading Addicted, I felt like this wasn't what I had been expecting or waiting for. This book left me with mixed feelings, and I can honestly say that is the first time that has ever happened with a Tracy Wolff book for me.

Addicted picks up right where Ruined left off, and Chloe and Ethan are just patching things up when she answers the door to his place and comes face to face with her rapist Brandon. Chloe quickly learns that Brandon is Ethan's half brother. Even though Chloe and Ethan love each other, his family situation changes everything between them. Chloe is reminded of her painful past just by looking at Ethan, and it is hard for her to accept that his family is responsible for getting away with such a horrible act. Ethan is determined to prove to Chloe that their love is stronger than their past and that he is willing to fight for her and be what she needs. But can Chloe let go of everything and move forward with Ethan, or will there just be too much between them to have a future together?

I absolutely adore Ethan. I have loved him since the beginning, and that hasn't changed at all. He continues to show what a great guy he is, and I really loved that he never gave up on Chloe. He was so thoughtful and sweet with her, and he tried to be exactly what she asked for and needed. He was always watching out for her and did everything he could to protect and take care of her. I love his little gifts for her that show exactly how well he knows her and that he is constantly thinking of her. Chloe on the other hand was the majority of my problem with this book. She was so wishy washy and was constantly running. I hated that she didn't seem to allow Ethan to explain things or talk to her and then she would get mad because of it. She was so hot and cold in this book, and even her best friend mentioned the whiplash that it gave her. I completely agreed with her friend, and as a reader the whiplash got old rather quickly. I thought that Ethan and Chloe still had amazing chemistry and a great bond, but I was tired of seeing her try to throw that away only to come right back.

I also thought that there were details in this book that weren't consistent with the first. They were small things, but it was noticeable for fans of Ruined and it was kind of distracting to me. My other problem with this story was that although a lot of questions were answered and we get an epilogue to see how things turned out, it felt like a lot was still up in the air after this book. I wanted to know if anything ever happened with Brandon. Did he get what was coming to him or did he just get away with everything and continue having a great life with no consequences. What happened with Ethan's mother. Did he continue to speak to her after everything she did and how did she affect Chloe and Ethan's relationship going forward. What happened with Chloe's family, especially her brother Miles? I just felt like this book was unfinished, and that we were still left wondering about so much. If I knew there was going to be another book that tied everything up, I think my rating and liking of this book would have been better. The way things were done at the end though, I have to believe that this was the conclusion to their story and that just wasn't the satisfying ending that I had been expecting and hoping for. I still recommend these books though because Ethan Frost is worth the read alone. He really came into his own with this story, and that was honestly the bright spot of this whole book. I loved seeing him grow into his alpha tendencies without being a controlling jerk. He was smart and sexy, and commanding in a totally hot way. Tracy Wolff is a great writer and I think that her books are definitely worth checking out. Despite my feelings on this book, I will continue to read anything of hers that I can get my hands on in the future.
